Glycine watches are underrated and don’t get enough respect. I have most every model in the larger case sizes and a few of the 42mm. One Airman 17 is my most accurate auto in my collection, including some that are a lot more expensive. Still looking hard for a D24 09 (Double 24) though. 🇺🇸
The finish and function of Glycine divers is impeccable. The crown action is simply the BEST and smoothest crown action I have ever felt on ANY watch. The automatic divers are a bargain at $300 Also.... Glycine does add a bit to the ETA movements to improve them so while not "in house" they are improved versions of the basic 2824.... Those who know....know.
Man... that's a pretty good, though short, review. I totally agree with you - the Airman DC-4 is a beauty; and the ETA mouvment is simply one of the best for the price. Thanks!
Quite a few companies rename existing movements though. Hamilton does it, so does Oris. I don't find it "shady" personally, though I'd still prefer it if they just said ETA/Sellita whatever. Anyone who cares enough to check what movement is in the watch will know that's not in-house anyway.
Glycine is a great Swiss brand with legitimate history. The Airman and Combat Sub lines are the core of their identity. Surprisingly underrated, they are just as good as Hamilton, Tissot and Sinn. Sadly they suffer from poor marketing and lack of smaller size variations. If you could walk into any local AD and find Glycine, they would sell more watches….
Excellent. Thank you. Any direction between a Double Twelve and Combat Sub? I am having a hard time deciding between the two for my first Glycine. Thanks so much.
TIMEFORFUN as long as Invicta leaves them alone and lets them function independently they will be fine and with Invictas cash 💰 reserves behind them all the better
The airman dc4 GMT showed in your video, you can get it below $500 online as summer of 2020. The combat sub can go below $400. Maybe invitca really messes up glycine brand...
Glycine watches at current value offers awesome value. price drop after invicta maybe a good thing. It has legimate history particularly the airman, movements are well regulated, and we'll made cases on par with major brands priced at same retail price but now you can get it for a song at least in the us. I also like the fact it flies under the radar. I much rather prefer airman vs a bremont with no hx, and ridiculous pricing with no merit. Renaming calibers has been done by almost every major company as well..tag, oris, omega, iwc, breitling, chopard, Panerai, you name it, they've done it..with or without minimal modification . And I have/had every one of those Brands besides Panerai as I'm not a fan. I have both pre-and and post Invicta model and the quality has not suffered, maybe the perception has due to the name Association. I do agree that they need to give it up some models and streamline. A combat sub for under $400 nowadays is a give away.. people are paying $1,200 for a Shinola for peets sake.. unless you're stuck on the "brand name" thing.. they offer very good value and quality.
I had an Invicta, similar to a Submariner with Omega type bezel and hackable, manual windable Miyota movement. It was a good quality watch for way less than $100 that I paid for it. I have a Steinhart now, it's better in several details (bezel rotates more easily and is ceramic, no Invicta name on the side of watch, second hand looks similar to a Rolex, bracelet has screw links, end links are solid) but it was 5-6 time more expensive. However, the Invicta held better time. I'm looking for a Daytona looking watch, and would buy the Speedway without hesitation, but the big second hand isn't the Chrono which renders the tachymeter scale useless. Otherwise that one and the Pro Diver are well designed obviously as those were inspired by Rolex models. Not sure why would the Glycine brand be damaged by being owned by them. If they can invest in new products and bring the type of value for money Invicta brings it will be great. For example, the Combat 6 Moonphase for $400 at Massdrop or $450 at Joma. Where else you can get an well made automatic moonphase Swiss watch for that money?
Ever since watching No Time To Die, I wanted a watch that looked similar to the Omega Seamaster that Daniel Craig wore in his swan song as James Bond. Of course, there is no way I am ever going to be able to afford a watch that costs over $9000.00. The Glycine Combat Sub models offer the approximate look of that watch for a fraction of the cost, and hence, in my opinion, its a nice way to live out my fantasy without me going to the poor house.
Just started following your IG and found this UA-cam account, great content !! I was considering getting a Combat Sub automatic the one with the orange dial it looks stunning
I have a few Glycine’s, for the money I was shocked at the quality. They must be losing money as a company, there is no way they can be making solid stainless watches with heavy well built bracelets for only a few hundred euros. You know when you pick up some watches and the steel bracelet is hollow feeling and all cheap and tinny, yeah, glycine bracelets are heavy and solid as a rock. As a company they have a big chance to become something so much bigger and I would go further than 20%, they need to lose 70% of their current lineup. Stick with the combat range and develop it into something more.
Great vid, 1st time viewer..subbing now. The orange hands/markers version is nice but should be on a ss bracelet. I really like the Combat sub Aquarius but a bit rich at over 2K.
Glycine is an excellent watch I have an Airmen GMT Love that watch and yes I have owned several Rolex Datejust also a very good watch always a few minutes behind lol but a great watch nevertheless
It doesn’t really matter what company is the parent, that’s just financially beneficial to both companies. Is just like how people may prefer one fast food to another but they are still owned by the same company. Doesn’t really make a difference.
Sarb is nice particularly the case and has longer power reserve due to spron mainspring . Glycine at current prices offer great value but different style....both are good for money . Glycine is more field, aviation feel.and sarb more dress/casual
I am just curious and maybe I am a bit picky on time keeping. How do you think that companies that use unregulated generic movements that have time tolerances off by 10 seconds a day or more be "good" watches? Isn't the most important thing to tell the time in a watch? So many companies case up the cheapest of the 5 grades of ETA then send it off and pray it doesn't come back or use a Seiko or Miyota. There are nicer brands that actually do regulate watches in 5 position at affordable prices such as Sinn and Nomos. Pre owned they cost just as much as these other less than ideal time keeping companies.
the heck they have blue ones there? I just got a black one from mine for $289.99 and it's awesome, reminds me of Seiko where it has a rugged feel, I wear it at my blue collar job and it just gets out of the way with how it curves.
the pilot watches have decreased in price and overall ever since invicta bought them out. shame. ceo stated, he will not change quality. will see. for $440 brand new airman, cannot beat the price
Read the problems with the Airman DC4. The damn hands don’t line up on their gmts. Numerous people. Why would any reputable company release a watch with known problems? One answer......invicta.
Dennis Mast I guess the fugly quartz models do belong in the lineup after all. Bummer. Is that why I see so many of the combat subs brand new on eBay for 550-600? Retailers dumping their inventory?
Knife Nut Some royal petrol state brainiac was to immediately sell all his 1234 Rolls Royce's if VW was to buy them. But since BMW took the company from VW, he didn't sell the rollers. That's why he never gets close of a Chiron, 911, Cayenne, Conti GT, Bentayga, Mulsanne, Aventador, Performante or Urus. And omg Ferrari, such complete garbage, associated with Fiat. Just imagine that! No Range Rover's for him either, because owned by Indian company. Just Rolls, BMW, Mini and nothing else!

The 24-hour Airman models are definitely my favorites. You just have to rotate the bezel to tell time in a different time zone.
Glycine is a pretty cool brand and their watches are just affordable and straight forward, not pretentious.
There's a combat sub style for everyone. Currently I love the Golden Eye with PVD case. Tomorrow it might be a different one.
Man... that's a pretty good, though short, review. I totally agree with you - the Airman DC-4 is a beauty; and the ETA mouvment is simply one of the best for the price. Thanks!
That DC 4 purist is the best watch they make for me- absolutely love it

I just picked one up for $260 and I am so stoked.
Video will be up on my channel!
I know this is 4 years old, but I can't think of any other Swiss non-microbrand that offers a GMT for around $500-600? Maybe Hamilton?
The quartz thing seems to be a INVICTA IDEA. Hopefully Glycine survives the INVICTA TAKEOVER .
Glycine became part of Invcita Watch Group sometime in 2016
TIMEFORFUN as long as Invicta leaves them alone and lets them function independently they will be fine and with Invictas cash 💰 reserves behind them all the better
@edwong3 wrong
@edwong3 My comment was in regards to Invicta purchasig glycine in 91.
The airman dc4 GMT showed in your video, you can get it below $500 online as summer of 2020. The combat sub can go below $400. Maybe invitca really messes up glycine brand...
Does this video still hold up to today's market? As in, same thoughts 4 years removed? Thanks, love the content!
Invicta approved the combat sub Quartz...... Enough said.

The association with invicta is damaging glycine as a brand terribly

agreed, although the symbol change was made before invicta
@edwong3 Said no one that knows anything about watches ever.
I do like how people are able to get them at Costco now because it's an Invicta distributor
Another great video! Keep these coming!

Ziggy Zuko check out evine.com theor under 450.00 new and u can get a 20% off of that today!!!!!
None of the 24-hour watches have the noon on top. They feel upside down
In Europe the price for the Glycine Sub is still at 600 - 700euro (700-800$) on Ebay...
Glycine discontinued the combat sub quartz. I guess that's influence. ;-)

Have you done an update on glycine quality since Invicta bought the brand??

Thanks man!!!! Thank you for watching!!!!

Hi! Is Glycine still good although it partnered with Invicta watch group? I am intersted on buying a glycine gl0076. Thank you!
It doesn’t really matter what company is the parent, that’s just financially beneficial to both companies.
Is just like how people may prefer one fast food to another but they are still owned by the same company. Doesn’t really make a difference.
I think post Invicta acquisition Glycine switched to Sellita clones rather than ETA
Aren't there several versions of the Glycine Airman?
Eric Viola yes
Hi, great content, keep it up. Could you please summerize top 5 Basel 2016 trands and what we will see in 2017? Thanks.
Glycine makes quartz?!! Thought they were only mechanical ..
The combat 6 moon phase is awesome value and quality at less than 400USD Fully swiss made watch...
What do you think about vintage glycine watches claiming to be rolex branded?
I'm actually not sure what you're referring to! Help me out?
+Theo and Harris if you search ebay for vintage rolexes you see lots of old glycines come up that the seller claims made by rolex
I'm looking at a Glycine Airman GL0063 vs Seiko SARB033. The GL is going for $349. The SARB is going for $285. Any thoughts?
Sarb is nice particularly the case and has longer power reserve due to spron mainspring . Glycine at current prices offer great value but different style....both are good for money . Glycine is more field, aviation feel.and sarb more dress/casual
Those are good price, lowest price i ever seen on both...where did you see a gl0064 for 349?
Oh how is die for these prices now. Send referral my way if anybody is selling the Airman please and thank you.
@@cy4624 I ended up with a Glycine moon phase and the SARB

What a terrific question, I'll absolutely make a video on it!! Thanks so much!
Theo and Harris Wow that would be so awesome! thanks brother! KEep up the good work and check out some of my technical video's too.
Got myself a blue combat sub from costco for 299.99 had to get myself an early bday present ;)

GLYCINE IS ONE MASSDROP FOR 379.99
Love the video buddy!
ha! geez, Christian looks like a 12-year old kid in this vid!
What a dreadful chap
My only problem with Glycine is that most of their watches are too big. The smallest combat sub is 42mm. Fortunately, the Airman No. 1 is a mere 36mm.
the pilot watches have decreased in price and overall ever since invicta bought them out. shame. ceo stated, he will not change quality. will see. for $440 brand new airman, cannot beat the price
Glycine do some work to the ETA 2824 and then rename it Calibre GL 224
Dude cool Channel
Thanks YOU!!!
Great Vid👍Glycine should send you the sub cos I Jomashop an Aquarius because of u 500USD 🤟Stay Safe.
the PRE INVICTA versions are best

Dreadful strap fastening principle. Truly awful.
Seiko???? Um....any Swiss made automatic should not even be compared to Japanese watches.
INVICTA- glycine.
Invicta owns Glycine.
It's a shame Invicta bought them out. Glycine was a great company when the Brechbuhlers owned it.
