Watched all videos - good on ya. For those of us who have fallen in love with the TD route and people along it, these vids let us relive all the races and places (3 tries so far for me), while we're dreaming of the next time. A belated congrats, and thanks!
Hi GC thanks for that. The TD really gets in the blood. I relive it everyday. All the best on your next attempt. What have been the most challenging aspects?
@@stevenmoatt4736 If I painfully peel the onion open, I let injuries become excuses for quitting, and gave in to the dark side. Age hasn't held me back, as I did Koko claims without drama at 65, and managed 100+ mile days. Gotta go back!
Steven, that was an incredible adventure and feat! Congratulations on surviving the Divide and doing such a bang-up job the entire race! You raced amazingly!
@@stevenmoatt4736 I can only imagine. I'm sure that experience was life-altering in a number of ways. Glad your knee held up. You were very smart to attend to it as you did ... nice, elevation, give it rest I can't believe that you had a mechanical so close to the finish line! (broken spoke?) Did you have to perform much maintenance on your own, like cleaning your chain and drive train, replace any cables, any flats, etc.? Again, well done, mate. Quite a finish.
@@bruin4937 l was lucky not to have any serious mechanicals. Not one puncture! The damaged rear rim was all I had and that was caused by one too many hard descents. Very lucky.
Amazing adventure Steven, I felt it by just watching your videos mate, really well made and great music, thank you so much for sharing. Looking forward to your next adventure mate. Ride on brother!!!
Great ride Stephen. My friend and I did it in 2018 but unfortunately he had a mechanical in Lima so had to dnf. Planning the return in 2024. It was good to see the route from where stopped. I remember the huge mood swings and emotions. Terribly home sick at times. Most likely due to the tiredness and not enough food. Take care Dan & Carl
Hi Dan and Carl. I am reliving it as we speak. Following the dots as they make their way on this years TD. I might go for a 2024 run also. Hope you get there. all the best. Steve
@@stevenmoatt4736 yes me too. Looks a substantially changed route this year for one reason or another. Looks like Sofiane has forgotten his pillow so decided not to bother with sleeping 😂
Thanks for sharing your journey. I’m thinking seriously about giving it a shot in a few years time, and it’s been helpful to get more of an insight into what I might be getting myself into!
Hi Duncan You'll be getting yourself into a whole heap of fun and a barrel of memories that will keep you going for a very long time. Hope you get there.
Thanks for taking the time to share these Steven! These are honestly my favorite series of TD videos. The unpolished and not over refined view of the day to day triumphs and struggles were very surprising and informative to me.
@@stevenmoatt4736 Not a sad ending, appreciated the tribute. Was just nice to go along with the journey. Seeing what it takes. Seeing the ups and downs, the beauty, the fatigue, and mental tenacity that you showed us.
A great series of videos, of an awesome ride Steven. Looking forward to the bonus vid of your warm up. I bet the stolen money was forgotten by the time you reached the end.
It was. But what a way to start. If you do the ride again you will be able to shelter under a funky new sun shade which I made for the Brush Mountain Lodge as a thank you to everyone.
Congratulations Steven, thanks for sharing with the rest of us, hope you don't mind I have few questions: How did you get from Antelope Wells back to Hachita and then how did you get to the airport to fly you back to the UK, which airline did you take and which airport, how did you get a cardboard bike box and tape to pack your bike. I assume you started at 3am to avoid some of the heat, how hot was it around Hachita? Thank you in advance.
Hi Lee Jeffery Sharp will collect from the border. He has a place in Hachita. He will help with the logistics of getting home. You can contact me on 0783383221 if you'd like to chat in detail. My wife organised the flight back when I got into new Mexico. flew from Phoenix to Calgary then home. Will come back with details this evening.
I am impressed by your tenacity, at the beginning you were having sore knees etc, i saw your daily mileage and realized why! which tyres did you use for the trip? thanks
Hi yes my knees got swollen but there was no pain. I used compression socks from then on. The tyres were maxis ikon 2.2 and not one puncture. Used them this year on the Silkroadmountainrace and again no punctures. A lucky run I guess.
Hi I had a lot of support. It was very humbling and I tried to thank all for their generosity. I continue to pass on the goodwill to others in need as there is nothing as beautiful as true community spirit. I am happy to make you a bike bag if you are a keen bike packer too. All I need is a template or measurements.(I'll just need postal address). If I didn't thank you at the time I am sorry but am glad to have this opportunity to offer a big thankyou now. Happy cycling Steve
