      @@ghostofautumnwood6379 Very interesting, in the video it mentions using one way mirror film. Is that what you yourself used on these infinity illusions? Or were you using actual one way mirror glass? I ask because I’d love to have a go at this illusion myself but I’m not sure if it’s worth spending the extra money on proper glass or whether the stick on film will work just fine?
      Thanks!

      @ghostofautumnwood6379  4 роки тому

      @@taohudson If you can afford it, go with mirrored glass. It's very expensive, but it's optically excellent and, if cared for, it will easily last for several years. (Just don't drop it like I did.) However, why not get a piece of glass, cover it with mirrored window film and see how it looks.

    • @ghostofautumnwood6379
      @ghostofautumnwood6379  Рік тому

      In my newest version ( ua-cam.com/video/0KQQasvbI5U/v-deo.html ) I made the walls from sculpted sheets of rigid foam insulation board glued to plywood. In the previous version shown in the skull-and-bone video, I also used rigid foam glued to plywood, but, in that case, I cut individual stones from the foam and glued them to the walls.

    • @ghostofautumnwood6379

      Do you mean the endless hallway illusion? There was never a video for that. I only had a couple photos taken during its construction.

    • @HalloweenLover7
      @HalloweenLover7 Рік тому

      @@ghostofautumnwood6379I love your endless hallway. Can you tell me what your dimensions were for that?

    • @ghostofautumnwood6379
      @ghostofautumnwood6379  Рік тому

      @@HalloweenLover7 Looking at the pictures in the video, I'd guess the hallway was about 4 feet in length, 6 feet tall and 2 feet wide. The cost of a 6 x 2 foot mirror today would not be outrageous, but the same size for a two-way mirror would cost a small fortune. You might be forced to go with a sheet of glass covered in mirrored window film, but that means a reduction in image quality. Good luck.

    • @ghostofautumnwood6379
      @ghostofautumnwood6379  3 роки тому +1

      The sides with the skulls are approximately 2 feet wide and 3 feet tall. The top and bottom pieces are roughly 2 feet from front to back and 28 inches from side to side. I think I made the sides a bit wider than two feet because the skulls stick out into that space.

    Great job. I am very curious how you attached the glass on both sides? Adhesives or some other method?

    • @ghostofautumnwood6379
      @ghostofautumnwood6379  3 роки тому

      Thanks. If you freeze at the 4:10-4:11 mark on the video, you can see two "L" brackets on the front bottom of the box. They're also on the back. I moved them outward enough to allow space for the mirrors. Once the bottom of each mirror was resting in the cradle created by the brackets, I screwed two brackets in at the top of the box. The reason my first mirror broke was because I rested the mirror in the bottom brackets, then stepped away to get the brackets for the top, thinking that the mirror would stay in place. It didn't. I used "L" brackets to hold all the sides together but, obviously, didn't put any screws into the mirrors. I wasn't worried about the brackets being visible in the front because I knew the rear panel on the hearse would cover the first inch or two of the sides of the infinity box. If you use brackets to hold the mirrors, wrap them in some electrical tape to prevent scratches on the glass.

    • @myatt83
      @myatt83 3 роки тому

      @@ghostofautumnwood6379 ah perfect. i saw the L brackets on the box holding the top to the sides which makes sense. I hadn't thought to use them for the mirror. much easier than trying to tape or glue it. I have been wanting to build this for 2 years now (the infinity box) so think I am going to give it a try now that I think I have worked out small details. Thanks for the inspiration!

    I really want to make one of these. What did you use to attach the skulls? I'm trying to make mine as light as possible, so trying to get ideas for materials to use.

    • @ghostofautumnwood6379
      @ghostofautumnwood6379  3 роки тому +2

      As I recall, I just laid them on the board and then squirted insulating foam around them. The foam, which is *very* sticky (wear gloves), expanded to hold the skulls in place. I think I had to cut away some of the foam where it rose too far on the sides of a skull. Build up the foam a little at a time.

    • @DynamicPurple
      @DynamicPurple 3 роки тому

      Ok, yeah I've seen that idea. Thanks for the reply.

    • @ghostofautumnwood6379
      @ghostofautumnwood6379  3 роки тому

      @@DynamicPurple You can use any adhesive you want--Liquid Nail, Gorilla Glue, silicon caulk, Elmer's.... An advantage of using the foam is that it fills the gaps between the skulls and creates an irregular surface. But it's a pain to paint.

    • @DynamicPurple
      @DynamicPurple 3 роки тому

      @@ghostofautumnwood6379 Yeah I like the effect of the foam being able to be cut down to look like rocks but I can see how it would be hard to paint. I'm planning to make a door sized illusion so it would be a lot.

    Note that the word "Luminous" describes a material that will glow after all light sources (both visible and UV) are removed. But, they dim pretty quickly. I think what you wanted to use is "Fluorescent". They need a UV light source to make them light up. But, fluorescent paint is both cheaper, and more effective for something that needs to stay visible for hours.

    Hey Homie,
    That was pretty rad for sure!!! Just an FYI in case ya ever get in a pinch like that again ... or just wanna save the dough, there's one way mirror "tint" you can put on glass, plexi, acrylic, etc. etc. super easy and I think they even have it at places like Michael's and Hobby Lobby nowadays, so you could get it quick w/o breaking the bank ... OR the mirror 😎 Hope it helps! The project looked tight, even w/the adversities ... Ya did GREAT!!! Have a good one.
    Much love!!! ✌
