  • On today’s episode, Dr. Nick talks about how stress can affect and accelerate biological aging. All cells in the body have a lifespan that is relatively consistent, especially early in human life. As cells die, other cells are made to replace and support the tissues of the body. As we age, the ability for our cells to replace each other can become less efficient leading to decreased functioning in tissues. This can be represented as skin wrinkles, joint aches, and vision/hearing problems. At the same time, environmental influences can increase the aging process because they directly cause inflammation and damage to cells. One of these influences is stress, and the downstream physiological effects of stress on our bodies. Stress not only affects us mentally, but it also affects us physically by increasing inflammation in cells and tissues leading to excess damage. Check out the video for more in depth information on the effects of stress on aging and how we can prevent it!
