For the first time I'm thinking someone screwed up! ....This should have been a quintet to begin with .... tsk tsk Ludwig !!! That's the problem with composing for people who don't like you! It flows much better than the piano duet ...... Fantastic performance!
Wunderschöne und spannende Aufführung dieses perfekt komponierten und fein arrangierten Meisterwerks im lebhaften Tempo mit seidigen Tönen zweier Violinen, mildem Ton der Bratsche und tiefen Tönen zweier Celli. Die intime und perfekt entsprechende Miteinanderwirkung zwischen den fünf Virtuosen ist wahrlich ergreifend. Wunderbar und atemberaubend zugleich!

Can someone tell me why cellos are playing on platforms? Is it just to make them "higher" in comparison of standing violinists? Or to prevent any scratch on the floor?
Since we (the upper strings) chose to stand, we were able to get a more homogenous group sound with the celli up a bit higher. It also does amplify the sound a bit.
In the quintet version, the more complex steps are simplified and the effect that is perceived is a devitalization of the sonata. It's all very boring!
I'm a simple man, I see a Beethoven video pop up in my notifications, I immediately click and upvote.
WOW this arrangement is amazing... always great to hear a familiar piece in a new light with new textures. Bravo to the players!

Yes you are right it is unusual - I do not have an answer, Nicolas. The platforms are rather costly - so it must have a meaning.
