You provided excellent information about the housing options between tiny house living and a viable alternative. Thanks again. And I totally love your house!
It seems like a good idea that other places insist on owner occupancy in either the main house or the smaller one. Otherwise rich investors can just buy up homes, add that smaller house over and over. Once investors get involved they drive up prices of homes and rentals!
Good point. I was thinking a benefit of NOT having owner occupancy as Kol said encourages ADUs. The issue I have is who would want to raise their property value without some way to afford it?

It sounds like his walls are basically 2”x8”. Why not 2”x6”? That would use a lot of interior space whittling down room size. Lower electric is fantastic but numbers would help. @@curiouscat3384 i think OP is just trying to say he did a very bad job of showing off the house. Looks like a very beautiful ADU but we barely saw anything outside the living room/kitchen. Set backs are mostly a fire code. A firefighter needs ten feet between buildings to safely lean a ladder to a second story window. Also it allows hoses and people to get around the building to stop the spread to other houses.

From these comments, people just want to see pretty pictures, apparently, and aren't concerned with learning anything about the process. They just "wanna see the bedroom."
@@billblaski9523 Try watching it next time. He gave out a ton of information about ADU usage. If you just want pretty pictures, you've landed in the wrong place.
Three important points here, to my mind: 1. Tiny homes should be healthy and green, not just small - meaning, they should have excellent insulation and be well sealed, with a heat recovery ventilation system for good indoor air quality, and be both situated and designed for passive solar heating and lighting. 2. ADUs face very different hurdles than tiny homes on wheels, SO FAR, in most places. And 3. Municipalities should not be effectively BANNING affordable housing - which is what most cities, towns, counties and municipalities are still doing! Thankfully, this is beginning to change, but we must keep up the conversations until the barriers come down.
I actually liked the ADU info, but the house itself was not to my taste. At all. The spaces seemed cramped and the colors too busy. I've seen too many nice offwhite and bright small houses to enjoy that one. But as long as he and his wife like it.
24 minutes, 55 seconds and I barely saw anything 😔 Didn't see a bedroom, panoramic of bathroom, global view of down stairs, layout of "uninhabitable" space 🥺 What's the point? 😠 I appreciate his knowledge, but I didn't see proof of it unfortunately 😥
Yes my thoughts exactly! I dont like these house "tours" that dont even show a tour. They just cut from one scene to the next, i like when the camera actually walks thru the house so we can see what the layout looks like
October 2019 His dog looks very happy. Ideally, every pet rescue group, like the SPCA and the Humane Society, should work with every city and town to make the above ADU Development; Tiny House Eco Communities; secure, free parking for vans, RV's, Schoolies, etc. - easier, faster, and less expensive. This is really important to help groups like 'Not One More Vet' which are trying to stop the epidemic of veterinarians taking their own lives, partly because of student debt. Military veterans have had a similar problem for decades. These people all deserve to have their student debt cancelled because of public service. We are not Saudi Arabia, so every company should have a pay scale that is planned for ten levels. The CEO, board members, etc. should not make more than ten times what the lowest level employees make in hourly pay. This would help the quality of life for everyone. G'Day
This was intended to explain ADU requirements and the contrast with THOWs. This was not a reality TV show where he's trying to sell it. The house was gorgeous, though. The wife must be quite artsy.
Interesting/informative tour. But what the heck are you talking about with 800 square feet being tiny for two people?? LOL. That's really substantial and comfortable for two people. Think about couples who live in 1-bedroom apartments that are about 500 to 700 square feet.
Not for everyone I guess. It was a tour of a home while explaining the ABCs of ADUs-what they are and why role they can play in our modern limited housing market.

Kind of like a reverse landlord... going to fix up front or slum it ?
ya, you got it, Craig. God, you people are all just too sharp for words.
I actually liked the ADU info, but the house itself was not to my taste. At all. The spaces seemed cramped and the colors too busy. I've seen too many nice offwhite and bright small houses to enjoy that one. But as long as he and his wife like it.
Whereas I found it delightfully unique and artsy, not the bland vanilla Chip and Joanna sell everyone on TV. To each their own.
24 minutes, 55 seconds and I barely saw anything 😔 Didn't see a bedroom, panoramic of bathroom, global view of down stairs, layout of "uninhabitable" space 🥺 What's the point? 😠
I appreciate his knowledge, but I didn't see proof of it unfortunately 😥
Yes my thoughts exactly! I dont like these house "tours" that dont even show a tour. They just cut from one scene to the next, i like when the camera actually walks thru the house so we can see what the layout looks like
ya, gee, I agree. Kind of like expecting to see Safeway products in a 7-11. you dumb shits. apples and oranges.
Very long winded, what is that about? Hope the best for them.
I dunno, was it too difficult and complex for your countrified lil' lass?
The renter of the front house has to get used to a wall outside all of their back wall and no grass or private outside space.
G'Day
Show more of the house and talk less
This was intended to explain ADU requirements and the contrast with THOWs. This was not a reality TV show where he's trying to sell it. The house was gorgeous, though. The wife must be quite artsy.
Do you have volume???
Interesting/informative tour. But what the heck are you talking about with 800 square feet being tiny for two people?? LOL. That's really substantial and comfortable for two people. Think about couples who live in 1-bedroom apartments that are about 500 to 700 square feet.
another New Yokkah heard from...
Some lawyer will sue home owners for not being ada complaint. Just saying
and some complainant will sue the lawyer for not being compliant.
The whole concept of what constitutes a tiny house in places like the states leaves me stunned.
To most europeans these are freakin mansions! Lol
completely cuts off the external amenity of the "main" house
I noticed this, repeatedly,is not a tiny home but a ADU,lol.but, could one really call 800sqft tiny?
says the person with 12 sisters in a 1500 sq. footer.
@@michaeloconnor6014 troll!
oh boy - is he talker :D I gave up!
Me as well
Nice house. Too much talk
That wasn't a tour. I turned off.
Not for everyone I guess. It was a tour of a home while explaining the ABCs of ADUs-what they are and why role they can play in our modern limited housing market.
@@TinyHouseExpedition People just want to see pretty pictures, apparently, and aren't concerned with learning anything. That's why the same questions are asked over and over again in these Tiny House/Alternative housing forums...nobody's serious about how to make it happen legally for everyone. They just "wanna see the bedroom."
I like the amenities, but the story behind this is the real problem for Portland. He's covering his entire mortgage living in an ADU behind his house because rents are so sky high in Portland, OR (stop moving here!) OMG this really is a horrible house tour too.
ryefry rents and mortgages are sky high a lot of places. Really is a problem, not just in portland, oregon.
