  • In todays video I will show you the easiest way to convert you shop vac in to an extractor to clean carpets and upholstery! You can easily piece this together using the list of items i lay out... BUT it is much easier and actually cheaper to buy the RipClean Better Extractor Kit. I was very surprised when i added up the total to build the kit myself only to find out that the ready to use kit from Rip Clean was actually slightly cheaper. Converting your shop vac in to an extractor is an amazing way to get professional results on a budget. I personally use a Mytee Lite 8070 Heated extractor for my professional detailing business. But at over $1300 it doesn't make sense for many people to spend that much. This extractor kit that allows you to use your shop vac gets amazing results at a fraction of the price... ENJOY!!

    Thanks for this. I'd use this for home carpet spot cleaning.
    FYI Suggestion: For your tank set-up you mentioned, and having not much pressure/flow. Perhaps try to parasite some of the shop vac exhaust air with hose. Run this into the top/lid of your tank. You'll want to play with air flow and/or some sort of vent on the tank so you don't have excess pressure build up and blow up your tank. Maybe a petcock pressure valve that vents at an appropriate psi. Or look into an rv water line pressure tank. They likely have a built in pressure release.

It is like I used a steam cleaner. Perfectly clean no stain seats. I carefully filled the cup holders with water and scrubbed then sucked it up with the vaccum. Pretty impressed.

    Just to enhance the information you are providing Josh, what you are looking for when choosing a vac for extraction is the Water Lift spec - this is measured in Inches, the higher the value, the better results you will get when pulling from the surface whether smooth or carpet. CFMs are important, but in relation to the motors actual pulling power - focus on water lift. Hope this helps anyone out.

    • @elic5355
      @elic5355 4 місяці тому

      cfm and water lift do different things,cmf is basically how the vacuum allows your tool to grab the carpet/upholstery ,then the lift is the actual sucking up the water.

      @MelvinFernandez-dj1yy 2 місяці тому

      Any vacuum recommendations?

    • @Mainbusfail
      @Mainbusfail 2 місяці тому

      yes, Advance is good, WAP/Alto works well. Stick with machines that have multi stage motors with bypass function. do not go with direct horsepower spec brands like rigid, shop vac etc.

    • @Mainbusfail
      @Mainbusfail 2 місяці тому

      not really, cfm is volume of air based on area of suction squared to radius of the hose diameter. tool grab isn't even a term used in the real world.

    • @elic5355
      @elic5355 2 місяці тому

      @@Mainbusfail i was trying to make it simple. its totally different. i have had a extractor with 182 inches of lift and one with the same lift but 240 cfm. one is capable of about 15 feet of hose and one at about 200 feet. cfm allows the head of the tool pull/lock on/grab on fibers or fabric, then lift comes into play.

      I was thinking the same thing however I would probably figure out some sort of prefilter because of the sediment that collects at the bottom of water heaters. If it were me...I would tap in to the line on the top of the water heater and this would eliminate the sediment issue...you also would want to make sure the rating on the hose could handle the heat because coming straight off the water heater is going to be much hotter than say at your kitchen sink due to the thermal loss from the distance of the faucet to the heater.

    Man, what a great video. Talk about your "poor man's" extractor. This is it, and I have a possible idea of what you might be able to do to get some hot water going here. On my water heater, there is a spicket, just like a garden hose spicket. I'm wondering if I couldn't hook up the female part of the hose to that so you could have hot water. Of course, depending on how big your water heater is, you could run out of hot, hot water, but you'd still have water that's in the process of heating up. Just an idea here. Thanks again for the very informative video. Marc Trainor

    hi Josh, could you please explain, how does it fit Ego vacuum? especially the suction part (detergent can be applied from separate bottle eventually)

    I have a regular DeWalt vac...will the hose attachment fit? Or does it fit into your Stealth Sonic? Thanks

    Do I also need to clean out the hose (gray vacuum hose) after each time I use it to extract? Or does that already get cleaned by the water being sucked through to the vacuum?

    Water qualities differ. Is there any advantage to placing a water filter between the faucet and the hose?

    Question- you think I can put a quick female connect adapter to the end water source hose, to be able to connect to my Ryobi 1600 electric pressure washer ? Or is it too much pressure for the sprayer ? Also is there such connector/adapter ?

    I put a setup together like this using 1/4" air line hose like you did.
    I wanna hook it directly to the hot water spigot..
    Will the hose work with hot water?

    Another option over the velcro or zip ties is using a hose sleeve/sock over both hoses at once, then there's no issues of snagging.

    You can also get a hose sock to put over the whole hose setup.

    I can't decide between a 5 house and 6 hp ridged shop vac. Just ordered the rip clean kit. Would a 6 hp ridged be too much suction when vacuuming?

    Wut up josh ! So I got that rigid vacuum but does the filter need to be changed for water or just take it out cause the filter will get brittle after a while rite ?

    Great info.. for hot water instead of using a water spigot use a sink faucet coulpler and hook it up to hot water.. when available..

    I have been using the vacmaster based on a previous video you’ve made and I enjoy it. I am curious as to how that new extractor head compares to the old crescent moon shaped one that could be a little cumbersome in smaller areas. Any experience with the newer model?
