    I had a partially closed emergency air damper on one of my Detroits--- ran fin e at 1000 rpm or lower, but black smoke thereafter. It happened that the emergency pull on the binnacle got "slightly" pulled, and the manifold damper was NOT fully deployed, but was choking off the air supply... it's a spring loaded

    I had the same bad divers. Also I felt that in 1.5 years my paint had failed and diver could not keep up. Just went to a non ablative hard paint to handle the high water temps. The barnicles died the water was so hot here in Largo Fl. So far new paint works and self cleans at 18 mph.

    The divers I used in Titusville dove my boat every month and did a good job. I was there most of the times the were there. As I headed north to start the Great Loop, in Palm Coast one of the divers came over to make sure all was still fine. I hope we were using different divers? My recent haul out for prop shaft seal replacement showed the bottom still quite clean.

    Love your You Tube. I had a 45' Hatteras in south Florida for 25 years and had the same fuel issues you're having when I got below 1/2 a tank. I had the tanks cleaned and the fuel polished several times but that didn't solve the problem, so I just never went below 1/2 a tank. I didn't think of your pre filter idea but I think it's a good one. Your diver is lying to you, a common problem in that industry.

    The "sludge" in your tanks may very well be mold. It grows in the interface between the fuel, and any water that was in the tank. It remains even after the water is removed. You can buy diesel mold killer to take care of the problem. But, be sure to have plenty spare filters on board first. You will go through several before the treatment is complete.

    Does a “Clean” bottom have those white circles on it ?
    You leave the foundation and they will grow quickly .
    And if you are ok with white circles , don’t expect that prop to not vibrate or cavitate when running.
    You needed a haul out and a proper wash , scrape and sanding.
    Your diver can extend the time between haul out but isn’t going to prevent it .
    It does look like they skipped scraping the lower side of keel .

  • @topshelf321
    @topshelf321 4 місяці тому +4

    definitely more than 3 weeks worth of growth. You can see the spots they scrapped and where they didn't. As for the RPM I don't think that would be enough growth to cause the issue. I'm thinking your back to an engine issue. Air, fuel, or maybe an injector. If you have a bad injector, you will have low RPMs and vibration due to cylinder not firing. Boat are notorious for that due to the constant low RPM hours (carbon buildup) and long down times not running at all.

    • @KandBDoormasters

    Lived just south of Boynton Inlet in Palm Beach County. The hot water in the summer and flow of water where I lived made it so after about 3 weeks I would have significant growth. Enough so that I would lose about 400 rpm on the engines. I do think though that your growth is more than 3 weeks worth.

    Just drain those tanks get rid of fuel and clean those tanks and lines.....every time you go in swells it just mixes up all the water and sludge etc....1st thing I did when I got my boat cleaned the tanks, 6 years ago, never, ever had a problem.....don't waste your time with polishing. You also have a drain which is lower than your fuel line, this drain gets the bottom sludge out, the fuel line is higher so not to get bottom sludge, polishing isn't going to suck up that bottom sludge, you will have problems all the time every time you are in swells that bottom muck gets mixed up .....

    Isn’t there a special paint for the props and shafts I don’t know the name of it but I know it’s expensive and it looks gold after you paint it on the props but it looks like it’s time for a pull out and repaint for sure. Either you need a fuel polishing system or you need to have the sludge removed from those fuel tanks like we used to do in the oil tanks when we burned home heating oil in the basement of our house when I lived in New York.

    I have 6V92 Detroits in my boats. I had an "algae" problem in my tanks a few years ago. The way I'm lookin at it is there is clean spots and Barnacle spots. Why is their not a even layer all over. Barnacles will grow on the entire bottom surface. The clean area is what has been scraped clean. The Props and shafts lower keel was not touched. Lazy workers , they only did half a job so that they didn't feel bad about charging you. Its a way of getting out and staying im sorry my guy did a bad job or I fired that guy.

  • @rski1036
    @rski1036 4 місяці тому +1

    My Bertram is here in Broward County so a LOT further south and I've NEVER had that much growth in even 2 months. SPEAK to others where you were docked as some areas are more prone to growth. Bottom paints ALL suck thanks to the environmentalists but fresh paint is better and different paints work better in different areas so you should also speak to others in your area for recomendations. Looks like whatever yard you haul at is going to have a "field day" with the extra scraping charge and then odds are will also need sanding to get her smooth or performance will be hindered. Down here Micron CSC, one of their medium priced paints seems to work best and forget about using Tri Lux on running gear as it appears the formula was changed and the last few years it sucked. Prop Speed has NO anti growth but when in the water is extremely slippery to prevent barnicles from adhearing to it. Been using for 3 years now on props & shafts but it's SUPEER expensive and whoever applies it MUST follow the application instructions or it will just wash off. Welcome to my world. Lastly; an old buddy purchased a home on the Dania Cut Off Canal for the dock water. Want to see what grows; just look at the dock pilings. For some reason, except for a light moss, nothing grows there. Same with the house he used to have on South Bimini. Personally I think the clearer the water the less growth.
