- Buyer's guide for the Lotus Elan M100. Bit of background and history followed by things to look out for and what they might cost you to fix. Intended for people who know their way around a car but aren't necessarily familiar with the Elan. Hastily put together for a friend so some of the sound quality isn't up to our usual impeccable standards.

Just bought a series 1 SE after 5 years thinking about it and the first job is the cam belt. No big deal in itself but the relevant video is saving me quite a bit of hassle. I am sure that I will be referring to more in the series in the near future, I want to applaud Toby for his dedication to the M100 and producing clear and concise videos without a trace of bull. This car has remained in the shadows due to ignorance of the so called motoring cognoscenti but that is all the better for its devotees. Well done sir.

Great video, tempted to buy an Elan at the moment and every video I watch sways me more... Great presentation :).
Make sure you learn about what they are and what they aren't and that you are ok with it. Most will not tell you that they are much closer to a Geo than a Lotus. Some don't care, but for me, I had to sell the car in less than a year because of that.

Bought one back in June. Passenger window has dropped, not the butterfly clip but regulator... the gear cables are gone, it has no back window, I need to wire in a radio, but I just can't wait to get it on the road...

Places for parts for the élans lotus
My dad bought a brand new Elite 501 in 1976.It started falling apart in the first week. 😕 😕 He put his hand back in his pocket and bought a 911 Turbo which didn't fall apart.👍👍👍👍

Incorrect. S2 cars came with half leather. Full was an option. Charcoal was the cheapest and then magnolia and blue were a higher cost option.
