She’s not trying to keep her alone but that doesn’t mean they don’t have perfect boundaries, the Hawk was pretty in the right abut the first episode situation. From an outside perspective Bertie WAS acting overly dependent on Tuca for very basic day to day function (being able to communicate with her boyfriend about being anxious over their date) and I’m wondering if this will come up in the finale given that Bertie will soon have to move out of the apartment and into the house with Speckle, living further away from Tuca

This means so much to me. Society likes to act like every romantic relationship is better and more important than friendship. In fact, friendship is ignored and downplayed by so much media. But this shows that a helathy, loving, GENUINE friendship is better than a weak romantic relationship. The way that Bertie comes in, and makes Tuca feel like herself, and gives her the space to be who she really is, is so powerful.

Agreed! All romance, no friendship isn't healthy. Even if being single feels lonely sometimes, it's not everything.
I really hope they don't pull the whole "We were perfect for each other all along" sort of thing and make them a couple. Although, considering how involved Speckle is, I don't think that will be the case.

When this show first came out I was so expecting it to be the neurotic vs chill friend trope where tuca and Bertie would always be at odds (i.e. the odd couple) & I'm so glad they didn't go that direction. Bertie never shames or tries to change Tuca and vice versa, neither of them are really portrayed as being right or wrong in who they are.

The colour changes were symbolism. Kara is dancing her own dance, that is keeping Tuca in the dark. Tucas personality is colourful, purple. But every time she tries to dance it, Kara pops her bubble and pull her back in to make Tuca dance the same dance as Kara. That makes Tuca lose her identity until she is so small, she is not part of the relationship in any other way but with physical presence. Bertie comes in and banishes the darkness (red colour) with her own dance that is uplifting instead of pulling people down. She helps Tuca up, and the many changes in colours shows that they not only dance the dance of Bertie, but the dance of Tuca too, as well as everyone in their life. They can dance multiple dances/colours in their friendship. All personalities are welcome. Like how any relationship should be. When Tuca and Bertie merges together, but is swallowed by Kara, it shows how she is devouring their relationship, making it all about her. :)

You also see this when they were playing the carnival game for the stuffed flamingo. You see the real Tuca come out for a moment, and she talks about how goo Bertie is at the game. Kara immediately got angry and said, “Do you think I can’t take her? Because I can,” which caused Tuca to immediately back off.

This show doesn't get enough props for not just having same-sex relationship rep,but showing that toxic relationships can develop for same-sex couples, too, and that people can often glorify and ignore the red flags in their early excitement.
I think a lot of people are scared to show that reality but it is how real life can be, my first relationship with another girl was the most abusive person I've ever pursued and it took me awhile to realize and come out of it. it's liberating to see and I'm glad they're telling it's not worth pushing for a serious partner, if they won't even take you seriously.

Man, I appreciated this. This show has really pointed things out to me, not just in terms of relationships, but mental health in general. Earlier this year I had a short lived relationship with a woman at least 15 years older than me. I'm out of college and I'm leading my own life, but I was caught off guard by a lot.
I learned how vital it is to have a network, and especially one built on platonic friends. I'm a cis guy. I'm not really straight, but I've had women partners and I'm lucky enough that one is still my friend. As a straight-presenting cis man I realized the importance of having women in my life. My guy friends, while empathetic and supportive, never asked how I was during a relatively controlling situation. My ex on the other hand, was the first to ask if I was okay, and honestly I was not.
I guess the moral was that friendships matter and that mutually supportive relationships are worth keeping. Great OP by the way.

It was good for Tuca to see Bertie and Speckle again. It was a reminder of what a healthy, happy and loving relationship looks like. What they have is so not what Tuca has with Kara. Tuca has changed herself so much to make it work that it's heart breaking. ALSO I feel like Kara is slightly threatened by the friendship Tuca has with Bertie. That line she said "I can take her" raised a red flag for me.

    • @Dragonking-fd1qv
      @Dragonking-fd1qv 3 роки тому +114

What raised a red flag and made me so angry is that Kara said something extremely sensitive to Tuca and unforced it as a joke, then when Kara was mad at Tuca for discussing her schedule and saying she can’t spend every moment together, and Tuca said that what she said made her uncomfortable she instantly brushes it off, Tuca shouldn’t have to apologize for her girlfriends actions

    • @6rebelangel
      @6rebelangel 3 роки тому +31

@@Dragonking-fd1qv That's narcissism for you. They don't usually think it's their fault when they do something bad.. If they say something that made you feel sad/angry? Well you're just sensitive. They didn't say anything bad, it's all on you. They told you a joke and you didn't laugh? Well, it's only because you don't have a sense of humor, the joke was obviously funny. You're breaking up with them? They didn't treat you badly, you just want to blame them for everything that went wrong and play the victim. (Usually quoted: "Oh I get it, so I'M the bad guy right? It's all MY fault, right? You're just perfect aren't you?")
The last situation even happened in the show:
Kara: My last girlfriend broke up with me a month ago. She liked to play the victim.
Which, funnily enough, was most likely true given Kara's abusive nature. The show had given us the signs as early as that bar birthday party of her attitude.

    • @WobblesandBean
      @WobblesandBean 7 місяців тому

@@6rebelangel Yup. EVERYTHING has to be about them. Everything. Oh, you're talking about how much fun you had with your friend? *_Do you like her more than me?_* Shouldnt *_I_* be the one you have the most fun with?
Oh, you're mad at me? You're making ME feel bad. How could you hurt me like this?
Nothing you do is good enough, you don't dress right, act right, talk right, etc. You have to bend to their every whim, while they won't even lift a finger to do anything for you, and they'll get mad at you for even pointing that out.
Honestly I'm kinda mad they "redeemed" Kara in later seasons. She doesn't deserve to be forgiven, because she's not sorry.

The moment Kara pulled out a pin in a previous episode and used it to silence Tuca, my heart sank and I knew the direction this would be going. Everything before that could potentially be interpreted as just the growing pains of two people entering a relationship, but that was the moment things turned in my eyes.
I love how sensitively the show was able to portray the subtleties of an abusive relationship that doesn't involve physical abuse. I feel like when we think of abusive relationships, too often our minds instantly to yelling and screaming, bruises hid under glasses and long sleeves. But this quiet more commonplace type of abuse is insidious and so difficult to recognize from the inside, and can often lead to physical abuse down the line anyway!

I know, right? And I also like that it was shown Tuca was drawn into it partly because of her own insecurities too, like her lingering fear of being abandoned for her expressive self. It's hard to talk about responsability without ending up in victim blaming. I also like that later Kara is shown as a competent nurse, even if an awful partner. It's like her relationship issues are her own, and it's true that we compartmentalize stuff so that we are competent in some aspects, and frail and cruel in others.

Also, can we look at the one scene in S1 where Tuca has that trippy claymation moment where she imagines Bertie pointing out all of her flaws, but then tells her "its okay. It's just who you are." and then starts to point out all the good qualities in Tuca and how they are like a ying/yang relationship?
Kara only points out and insults Tuca for her flaws and being herself, doesn't apologize for it, and starts to try and change and control Tuca. The dance scene shows Tuca having a big personality, and Kara forces her to dance like her, making her feel small. With Bertie, she helps Tuca up, makes her feel big again, and starts to dance along to her rhythm while in a way meeting in the middle.

Calling me sensitive and saying it was a joke if I ever brought up it hurt me, but getting upset whenever I mirrored that behavior back. They made me feel like I lacked any wisdom to make decisions. They made it seem like they were kind and patient to teach me things everyone else knew and didn’t care to share with me. Or just seeing how powerful and her and Bertie's relationship is and how crucial/nurturing it is to have someone around that is on that equal footing as you. There have been moments where I'll hangout with someone who is controlling and belittling, I'll come back home in tears and my best friend will just be there to hold me and make me feel so seen and just experiencing the two contrasting types of relationships really makes you appreciate those people that do constantly make you feel recognized and understood. It _sounded_ like she did, but the words "I am sorry for what I did" never passed through her li...uh, beak. And they probably never will. She wants what Speckle and Bertie have so bad that she's willing to push her true self down to try to get it. A rainbow of colors appears once Tuca & Bertie are dancing together. No colors appear when Tuca dances with Kara- except that it's blue- & dark. Signifying the feelings Tuca is having.
When Tuca tries to be herself, some color pops out- PURPLE- but then Kara stifles Tuca's color & dance- after that the color/background goes black. All of the color has been removed.
What is interesting is how Bertie comes in with red- with is aligned to the root chakra. It's possible that Bertie's red color signifies a grounding energy, a root energy that helps Tuca ground & find herself again.
After Kara leaves, Tuca then dances in a rainbow of changing colors with Bertie
What is interesting is how the purple color returns after Tuca and Bertie are done dancing- we see Kara swallow Tuca whole- and then the purple comes back again.

I love this show so much. So happy it's renewed for a new season, deserves to run as long as it can. How it touches on psychology and the complications/intricacies of relationships gets me every time. I think everyone has had at least one Kera in their lives no matter how short or long. Someone so unbending and controlling and can make you question oneself and feel not good enough. I knew a few people like this (friends and some family members) and then just like Kera when they can't control you they ghost without notice since it's just another means of control in the situation. Belittle concerns and reprimand honesty about thoughts and feelings. It's the worst.
Kera did Tuca so dirty but so glad Tuca and Bertie has such a strong friendship and they avoided that stupid troupe "friend warns about prtner and it causes a rift between friends" (even though this happens in real life a lot). I'm so glad this show prioritizes female comradery since often times media tends to pit women against each other with cattiness/ill will/jealousy/etc. Just nice to get adult animation like this for adults. It can have the crude humor and explicitly it wants but when there's something to tell/express it takes it serious enough for the audience to as well and respect what's said.

My best friend died a few days ago. She made me feel like Bertie did for Tuca. When she met me, I was trapped in a cycle of abuse with multiple people. I had shrunk myself down to a microscopic level, completely forgetting who I was. Then her comes my soon-to-be friend, with her brilliant, shining energy. She reminded me of how I use to dance so freely, before the world taught me to be small. I thought of her when I watched it last week, but watching it tonight broke me into pieces. I will never dance with her again. I will have to maintain my light on my own. I will be eternally grateful that she helped me find it again.

i love this scene since it shows how when Tuca felt small Bertie made her feel big! even with Berties tragic secret she still pushes forward and thats how friendship should truly be, not backstabbing or cheating but helping each other even in the darkest of moments

The show went into telling another way an abusive relationship can form, abuse isn't just strictly physical it's also mental witch is worse as the person will forever remember those feelings unlike a visible scar that may stay but you don't feel pain the moment you see it.
Shows are always quick to show relationships where the partners hurts the other by punching, slamming, or harming them in some way but they don't talk about the relationships where the partners uses their words as venom to mentally impact and form their -lover- victim into the way THEY want them with out having to change themselves. They guilt-trtp, they make their -lover- victim think their friends are a bad influence, but most importantly they don't show their "-lover- victim" affection but are quick to bash them when they themselves don't receive any, and when their -lover- victim ask a question that sounds remotely close to doubting they lash out at them.
These relationships are the worse as they can change the person whose being inflicted by it to the point of no return.
i also did a comment on what i the the dance was saying in the reply.

What I analyzed from the scene
It starts off with Tuca alone,
she meet Kara and they get to know one each other (the dance represents their personality)
Kara is calm, well organized, she likes to keep in her bubble.
Tuca is wild, crazy, and isn't afraid to go where others won't
Kara doesn't like the way she acts and scolds her. (hint she pops Tuca's butt with her beak)
Tuca is sad that she doesn't felling like she's locked up in a dark room, trapped (Background becomes black setting the mood)
Tuca looks at Kara for guidance since she's now lost.
Kara tells her to follow HER lead and Tuca does just that.
After a while Tuca starts to feel like she isn't herself anymore she feels smaller thinking Kara is much better than her.
Kara can now handle her without issues since she knows Tuca looks up to her.
      But she remembers Bertie.
Bertie reminds her of what a free girl with a healthy relationship looks like.
She brings back light to Tuca.
Bertie is weird, organized, and tries her best to ease on into others.
Kara doesn't like this new found energy backing off.
      Kara let's go of Tuca.
Showing just how little she cares as she makes a run for it.
Bertie picks Tuca up to show her how she rolls.
Tuca joins in Feeling like herself again
      She doesn't feel little anymore
She adds in her own dance moves and Bertie goes right along with her.
