      The level of narcissism boggles my mind. That’s gonna happen no matter what! None of us are gonna love every song a reaction channel does or every video a UA-camr makes. That’s a given.
      And I have loved every video so far today. That doesn’t mean you should.

I hope you also get to more Lindsey and Christine lead vocals. All three of them were unique and great. Stevie wrote this song about her relationship with a long-time friend who passed away. The lyric "lightning strikes maybe once maybe twice" is a reference to the notion that you might get 1 or 2 truly lifetime friends if you are fortunate.

      That's what Stevie starting saying but she wrote it in 1978-79 and meant it for her first solo album. She couldn't make it work so brought it to Lindsey and FM for Mirage in early 1981. It's about her time with Lindsey sleeping on their mattress on the floor and when she'd window shop at The Velvet Underground for things she couldn't afford. Robin was diagnosed in early 1981 with Leukemia and passed in Oct 1982.

      @@btgiv6009 Hang on a second - you do realise that it's very much on record, including out of her own mouth just how much of a mess she was in her world of addiction, and that SHE was the one who physically assaulted Buckingham when he announced he was leaving the band. She is literally on record saying she would have tried to KILL him if she hadn't been physically restrained. Now imagine if those words had come out of HIS mouth about her, there would have been a public outcry. So forgive me, but I absolutely will make judgment, based on what I have seen and heard with my own eyes and ears about their relationship, and I hold her more to blame than I do him.

    • @btgiv6009
      @btgiv6009 5 місяців тому +1

      @@fuzzluvver69 Very little of what you said is true. He was physically abusive with her, not the other way around. The final time was in front of the entire band. Lindsey was very jealous and controlling, and Stevie was sick of it. He was so verbally abusive in the studio that Mick Fleetwood several times had to tell Lindsey to cut it out or leave the band. After the breakup, Lindsey belittled her at every turn, running down her songs and throwing shade on her solo work in the press. He told her that her music was only good when he arranged it. Lindsey also had a habit of pushing off Fleetwood Mac's plans so that he could work on solo projects; that was especially galling since his solo music mainly sucks. He dipped out on the Shake the Cage tour for that very reason but then was all butthurt when the band toured without him. That's exactly what happened when he was fired; he wanted to delay going on tour with the band so that he could pursue his latest solo venture. Stevie also felt that he was once again publicly slighting her (opinions differ on whether it was a legit beef). Stevie just told the band they could either go on tour with her or him. They chose her, because as important as Lindsey is as an arranger, he is easily replaceable on the road, and Stevie isn't. Look, I'm not a Stevie devotee or anything, and I think the lot of them are/were talented but miserable, petty people. But facts are facts.

    Like a lot of Stevie's songs, this one is written about a couple things. The first part about the velvet underground, the floor that I love, and a room with some lace and paper flowers, that's about when her and Lindsey first moved in together. Velvet Underground was a store where she bought her clothes, the floor was about how their mattress sat right on the floor because they couldn't afford furniture, and the lace and paper flowers was what she used to decorate their room. This song is also about her friend Robin who was her best friend and passed away. The line about "I still see your smile" towards the end of the song is in reference to her. As well as the line "she is dancing away from you now."

      Per an interview I've seen by Stevie, after FM had so much success, Dreams, Rhianon, Sara all '76 - '79...and wherever in there the breakup w/Lindsey/blow/Klonipin, but w/all the success and things crashing personally in ways (Lindsey/substance...and props to Stevie for being so forthcoming abt things so personal...Klonipin is the best pill EVER), Stevie rented a small apartment, to take her back to the beginning when she and Lindsey didn't have much...recreated that to get away from all the fame and mansions and material things, and back to basics...and the apartment as you described...but a recreation of it in '79, and on the floor of it was when/where she wrote Gypsy, and demos were made for it to go on her solo effort Belle Donna. THEN her friend died, so Stevie allowed Gypsy to go on FM's 'Mirage' album...the song took on new meaning for Stevie AFTER the death of her friend, and dedicated it to her that point forward.

    You have to give LIndsey A LOT of credit for this song. The production and arrangement is ALL HIM. ANd the guitar solo at the end is BRILLIANT. Tom petty tried to produce this song on one of her solo albums and couldn't figure it out. When he heard it on the radio he tought "wow Lindsey knew exactly what to do with this song" He deserves lots of credit.

      @@Augirl78 Christine once said - unlike her Lindsey knew how to speak Stevie. Musically it was true. Petty also said that when he got stuck in the studio with Stevie he'd call Lindsey who'd come in and say do this, this and that - and he was right..

    She wrote this about her best friend, Robin, who died of cancer----the Gypsy in the song is Robin. Stevie has said that the chorus "lightning strikes, maybe once, maybe twice and it lights up the night"---is about how once or twice in your life you come across a friendship that powerful.

    "Gypsy" was written for her long time best friend Robin who died of leukemia just days after giving birth to a son. Stevie then married the baby's father, which only lasted months. Later she also put 'Matthew' Robin's son, through college...

      Yes there are so many great non Stevie Nicks Fleetwood Mac songs. Reactors seem focus on the Stevie songs.
      The interesting things is, if it wasn’t for Lindsay Buckingham insisting that Stevie (who he was dating at the time) be allowed to join the group when Mick Fleetwood was recruiting him, Stevie may never have been in the band.

    This video shows how Stevie was able to do those quick turn spins of hers. Ballet dancers employ this technique they call spotting. As they pirouette, they keep their body moving at a fairly constant speed but try to fix their gaze on one “spot,” varying the speed at which they rotate their head. They hold it in place and then quickly whip it around at the end of each turn, minimizing the time their head is rotating and limiting any nystagmus. Learning to spot may offer ballet dancers an even broader benefit: a 2013 study suggests that the training might teach their brain how to suppress dizzy signals at their origin, the inner ear.
    You can see Stevie doing this clearly in the mirror.

I remember learning that part and playing it over and over because of how cool it sounds (esp. in the context of this song) and how fun it was to play. You have to react to "I'm so afraid" and "Never goind back again" by them. This showcases some of Buckingham's amazing guitar work.

    That's all Lindsey's guitar - the wind chime sound, the xylophone sound - all guitar. Also his arrangement and production. If you hear an odd or unique sound on a Rumors 5 album it's 90% Lindsey. Stevie wrote this from 1978-79 intending it for her first solo album. There's an hour long vid on YT and you can hear all the various different versions, including a rocking one with Tom Petty. None of them compare to the magic in this one - which is why she decided to save it for Lindsey and FM.
