I rate this a ten out of ten. Terrific movie, casting, and sets. Lon Chaney, "The Man of a Thousand Faces", and gorgeous Mary Nolan, put the icing on the cake. Thanks PF for another silent gem.

I agree. The makeup was the gimmick that made him famous, man of a thousand faces; but his expressions have such subtlety. You could never see that when he was made up.

Lon Chaney, Sr. played some of the most grotesque roles in film history, and did so incredibly well. He and Tod Browning, who later made "Freaks", made grotesque palatable to audiences with acting skill and pathos. Never hurts to have a pretty girl (Mary Nolan) in there as well, and good work from Lionel Barrymore. This is the British release, complete with the original MGM music and effects sound score.
Hey, don't forget Gilbert Roland! His most famous line from A Tale Of Two Cities - It is a far far better thing that I do, than I have ever done. Roland played excellent roles in some great silents!

Another great Lon Chaney film with Tod Browning, director. Also loved Mary Nolan in her role. Amazing cast, great synchronized sound, and sets. Makes me want to rewatch all of Chaney's films. Thank you Pizzaflix!

Thanks so very much for showing this rare classic. Interestingly it was Lionel Barrymore who spent much of his later life in a wheelchair due to severe arthritis and a broken hip

Huge Lon Chaney fan, this one is a cautionary tale to remember; don't make the wrong mistake or you'll be sorry. The remake KONGO 1932 starring Walter Huston is potent stuƒƒ as well!

I don't think any actor played more cripples than Lon Chaney Jr - and this, Tod Browning of Freaks! Unquestionably, one of the most talented producers and directors of his day!
Lon Chaney, Sr and Lionel Barrymore - two of the greatest actors of the 20th century and cannot forget Gilbert Roland, A Tale Of Two Cities - "It is a far far better thing I do..." and beautiful Mary Nolan! If not mistaken, she was in Taming Of the Shrew with Douglas Fairbanks Sr, another silent, another great movie!
I would binge watch the silent flicks of Lon Chaney, Jr. Some of the traits of his characters are bizarre and psychological horrors filled with revenge - all the more fantastic. This is short, in comparison but none less thrilling.
