Great video but your description should note on the G6 it is the 4cyl model being demonstrated and advise all v6s have front bolt motor mount clearance issues that require extra time and attention. Major omission!
For those with this issue, I just did mine. Need to lift transmission on driver side, and engine on passenger side.
When replacing new control arm, ball joint first, then front bushing then rear bushing worked the best. I also needed to remove the rear bushing and slide in to place first for easier installation.
1aauto videos got me into wrenching, you guys explain and show everything In a very clear and practical way that make you feel confident you can get the job done yourself . Keep up the great videos!

Thanks guys...awesome video! Note: Saturn Aura 3.5 V6 is not as easy as this video with the 4 cyl, you have motor mounts in the way that will have to be move slightly out of the way to do the job....so not as easy as the job in this video

I appreciate 1A Auto's videos. Any time I have a repair and I see that you guys have made a video on it, I know it's gonna be smooth sailing--or as smooth as the job will allow, lol. Thank you!
+Matt Garza Thank you! We love empowering our customers and showing how to perform DIY auto repairs with our high-quality auto parts. 1AAuto.com
Yes you would need an alignment after this procedure. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Awesome, clear and brief, love it. Thanks for keeping it under 10 minutes and giving clear shots. The only snag I ran into was the front bolt in the control arm did not come out all the way with my hands because a motor mount was in the way. But I was able to use a pry bar to pry on the bolt head and it came right out.
+Evan Post Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
How did you fit the pry bar in there? I really dont want to take motor mount out
The Aura with a LZ4 V6 requires that the engine mounts be moved before you can take out the front bolt. Much fun.
This only works for some G6 models. My 2007 3.5L required unbolting the engine mount and raising/lowering the car to get the main bolt out.
my g 6 had the mount in the way. major pain in the butt to change the control arm. its a 2007.
It could be. You may also want to check the front axles and all of the suspension pieces such as the tie rod ends and steering stabilizer end links to see if they are worn. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
While my Saturn Vue is a little different this video helped get the rear bushing out.
Hello, DJMovit. My son's friend also has a Saturn vue (2009) that needs a new control arm. I was wondering, did you have to replace the whole control arm, too?
Great video... thanks for all the speeding up.
Great video, I will be placing my order for many parts for my 09 Malibu because of this. Thanks again
This is the same procedure for a 2009 Chevy Malibu. Good job, guys! Just a suggestion, but you guys should include the name of other cars that this tech repair can relate to. Thanks for the video
+Edward X Thank you for watching, and the insight on vehicle repair list! 1aauto.com
For a 2009 Chevy Malibu LT, the only difference is that the two bolts on the bushing is positioned differently on the arm bar...that's all. Hope this comment helps you guys who are looking to change a 2008-12 Chevy Malibu. I'm not sure but it might be the same for the 2013-15 too if GM didn't change the control arm. PLEASE check before you repair
Edward X thanks I will be ordering from 1A auto ,and do it my self
Make sure it’s leveled before tightening?
the motor mount is in the middle of the bolt? how to take it out not all Pontiacs are the same it's the same model and everything except the amount is in the middle of that Bolt
One thing they need to mention is that for these vehicles with the 3500/3900 V6 you will need to support the motor and remove the motor mount in order to remove the front control arm bolt.
Man i wish i read this comment 5 hours ago
Oh damn. I was hoping to replace my front control arms soon. Thanks for the note! I might have to take it in, then.
Yup like to kick engineer some where for the v6 model
And passenger side the exhaust pipe is in the way.
Thanks this will help me with my Opel Vectra C !(apparently this 2 car use the same control arm)
Great video, but it is not the same for all G6. If you can check, the G6 GXP is a bit different, and the back bolt does not come out that easy. I just wish you guys would make a video on how to do it on a G6 GXP and also how to replace the bushings on the swaybar, not the sway bar link that's easy. Thanks for all your videos
+Raul Santos We're always cycling through common cars. We'll add this repair to our list! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Very well explained I like all ya videos
You guys don't talk all that bullshit that no one likes to hear you get straight to it good job guys
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤝🤝🤝🤝
Very helpful. thank you. just a quick note, you called the ball joint a tie rod.
My ball joint bolt snapped and the stud is stuck ( rusted and more corroded ) in knuckle any tips on how to get it out ? Hammer and punch ? Maybe with torch ?
Would you use grease in the control arm bushing or just put it in without using grease
Hello, thank you very much for so many great videos! Can you tell me why you don't remove so many of the nuts or bolts with the impact wrench in this video?
You don't have to remove the motor mount you just have to loosen top and bottom nuts and pry up on mount and the bolt will slide in and out easier then getting the mount out
Ryan Basser be more specific man
08 g6 , passenger side you have to unbolt motor mount and lift motor to get the front bolt out .
This video is great, but it does not work on all G6. It is definitely not how it goes on the G6 GXP the motor mount is on the way to remove the bolt.
no alignment?
Good work
Hello, I've got a Pontiac vibe 2008, I need to replace the lower control arm ( left side), so far I managed to remove it, but I'm having difficulties to install the new one ( the original one was bent in a car crash :
What to torque the front bolt. The bolt you loosened after the tie rod bolt came out ?
This is not the same for a 2006 g6. the motor mount is in the way to pull the forward bolt out.
The V6 setups have the motor mount that is in the way. All you should need to do is remove the bolts underneath for the mount and jack the engine up to get clearance.
It is the same, i changed my front 2 last summer
I have a 2.4, 4 cylinder though
Please what do you mean by the front bolt 70 f/p Thank you
+Mamdouh Noshy 70 foot pounds of pressure. You will need to use a torque wrench in order to ensure this is tightened to spec.
My car makes a cracking sound when I turn the handle to the left or to the right. Is something wrong with my control arm?
You may want to inspect the ball joints and all of the front suspension and steering pieces.
Would this also work for my 2005 malibu?
Did urs come with a grease valve for bushings?
Thank you kindly, but I was just asking for what you mean by the front bolt. (70-foot-pounds)
Mamdouh Noshy it’s the bolt that is straight across from the ball joint, tighten that to 70fp
Why don't you use an impact wrench?
I would like to do this to my 2006 Pontiac G6 3.5L sedan...will I need to remove the engine mount on that particular model for the passenger side control arm??
I had a similar problem on my '08 3.5. I placed the jack underneath the motor and removed the rubber mount and it was fairly easy to do.
do you guys have a shield replacement for the fuel tank?
Thanks for this video. If my Nissan Quest makes thumping noise on bumps, could it be worn control arm bushings?
Edmund Mendez definitely a tie rod end.
the ball joint doesn't go in except for just the tip when install the new one..on my 09 chevy malibu. the store said i dont have to press it... any advice?
If you can get a nut threaded onto the tip (by hand), it should suck the control arm up into position when you tighten it down.
And not shown: "kinda jack up the mount so geometry is right" - I need to see that, I don't know what I'm doing :/
great vid...thanks man
+Crystal Fusco No problem. Thank you for watching. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
If we have a bad ball joint is there any way to just replace that?
+Brandon Woychik Thanks for checking us out! Depending on the vehicle, ball joints are typically replaceable rather than the whole control arm. 1aauto.com
what would be the process if I just wanted to change the bushing? is that possible with this control arm? I can't find any info on it at all
+Billy Moon Thank you for checking us out. In most applications, the bushings should be able to be pressed out, however we do not have a video available at this time. You would need a bushing press tool or similar, but we recommend verifying the exact procedure through a service manual. 1aauto.com
thanks great video
Thank you for watching!

This does NOT apply to a 2007 Saturn Aura. In the Aura the engine mounts must be removed in order to back the front bolts out.
It does apply to the 2007 Saturn Aura as long as it is a 4 cylinder. The V6 requires removal of the motor mount.
do I need an alignment after this?
+lavishluevano Yes you will want to get an alignment performed after replacing these parts. 1aauto.com
Nope! This isn't for any ol' G6. This has got to be the 4 cyl you're working on. Add an extra hour labor if you need to do this on the V6, which has clearance issues where you need to remove the engine mount. These guys have it figured out: ua-cam.com/video/D-SoyYCz0qw/v-deo.html
Your video states Bushing replacement.... none showed here.
The bushing is part of the control arm
What do you mean jack the suspension up?
+Shawn Johnson You will have jack up the suspension but putting the jack under the lower ball joint. Jack up the suspension just until the vehicle comes of the jack stand you were using while doing the rest of the steps. One the nut it tightened you can lower the car back onto the jack stand. 1aauto.com
I have an 05 malibu. Will this be the same procedure
+compitacris Thank you for checking us out. The procedure should remain the same as long as you have the new body style Malibu. www.1aauto.com/1A/front-control-arms/Pontiac/G6/1ASFK00182?UA-cam&CTA+Comment&QxxUcXRLo
1A Auto Parts thank you guys. It's actually a malibu maxx
+compitacris Thank you for the response. The Malibu Maxx will still remain the same procedure. Please let us know if you have any further questions. 1aauto.com
How similar is the process for the drivers side?
+jericho kendall It should be the same or a very similar process. We also carry the new control arm shown in this video on our website. Here is a link to them. We hope that this helps you out. www.1aauto.com/1A/front-control-arms/Pontiac/G6/1ASFK00182?UA-cam&CTA+Comment&QxxUcXRLo
good

can you press out the control arm bushings or the whole bushing will have to be replace?
+Aaron Nelson You can press them out, but is is easier to replace the whole thing.
1A Auto Parts thanks makes my job easier then
Our saftey lady told us to not use a "cheater pipe"
I told her "then how do I do my job?"
Like seriously....
NEVER use a cheater bar on a ratchet wrench! Use a long breaker bar to break bolts loose, or you could strip your ratchet pawls and injure yourself. This damage is not covered under warranty, either.
That is NOT the same as a 2009 Saturn Aura
That wasn't the tie rod.. that was the ball joint..
No alignment necessary for lower control arm replacement on this vehicle or the malibu, aura.
You should get the vehicle aligned after replacing the control arm. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Cant believe they want 1200$ for this
