Sometimes when you hear something so beautiful, it overwhelms you with emotions and you can't explain. Especially when we've missed these beautiful voices for so long. Tears are expected.
And that is even more remarcable when we know he hasn´t had any musical schooling through his childhood or teen years. He is a completely self-made genious. He taught himself how to play. Most swedes know that but I don´t know if the world knows. Do you? He was and is the musical brain in ABBA. They are all very gifted and good musicians but Benny is something extraordinnary!

It's strange that such an upbeat song should cause an emotional response, but I felt the same as you listening to it for the first time. I think it's a mixture of the perfectly matched voices and the joyful arrangement and as though we're being reunited with these long lost friends. It's the magic of ABBA.

I love this song. 45 years ago I discovered "What about Livingstone" visiting my sister's family and I couldn't take it out of my mind anymore for years. Other ABBA songs (such as "That's me") got interesting for me only decades later. The universe of ABBA music has so many layers and facets that it may be possible to judge it only over a lifetime.
@@GivenToe I thought that as well. Their older voices have a very different sound - like reed instruments rather than brass instruments, to use an analogy. They have lost belting strength but have gained poignancy. And, as "Don't Shut Me Down" said, I think the now-and-then-combined is special.

That actually is the first and only place this was heard, Benny and Bjorn kept it under wraps until then and at that only a short clip of it. Which Michael Tretow engineered up for the box set, it was done during the "Voulez Vous" recording sessions, and was slated to be on that album but chosen not to be on it in favor of the final track listing for it.

They are just able to turn my memories and feelings upside down and inside out - and I am really happy to have them do that to me! 😄👍🏻🌹 It sounds like what Björn described in an interview about 6 years ago about the night he and Agnetha fell in love. Pure, unadulterated ABBA joy! A blast from the past made beautifully contemporary - "Now and then combined". Benny's piano riffs! - just WOW. The dynamics and energy in the song very reminiscent of their greatest hits, ABBA stays ABBA even after 40 years and this is wonderful! Ladies and gentlemen ...ABBA ARE BACK!
I just compared the original version and the new version. The vocals are so close and really hard to tell the difference, but if listen really carefully, there are some parts where Agnetha's voice are sharper in the original version, and also some words she sang sound different in the new version. I would believe ABBA kept the original essence but rerecorded everything. btw Agnetha's voice is still stunning!
@@khonsanug we have no way of knowing how many demos of this song they have in the vault, I can guarantee there will be way more than the 1 snippet that was released on ABBA Undeleted, and it is more likely than not that this is one of the alternate versions. The vocals do not sound new, both Frida and Agnetha are singing this song, if it was just Agnetha then the vocal would sound thinner and the metallic element of their combined harmony would not be present.
@@lounolastname4477 When I say different, it’s not just the vocals, but as a whole, even the instruments are slightly different. Yes you’re right, we never know if the vocals are new, that’s merely my analysis. As I said, I would believe in ABBA, that they will not just remaster a song that has been recorded decades ago and used it as it is just because it sounded great, they are now and then combined after all, and I still have faith in them haha.
What I’ve heard is that this was an alternate take of the vocals from the 1978 recordings. The vocals are not newly recorded, they just used a different version and blended it differently from the unreleased snippet from before. Personally, I’m not 100% feeling this one. I feel like this is not a good blend of their voices. They are both singing, but Agnetha’s voice is too prominent and it loses that ABBA magic when they both sing both the harmony and the melody lines together.
In my opinion, the song has a mix of fresh and nostalgic sound probably inspired by the Motown sound which clearly shows the capacity of Benny and Bjorn to develop good music and of course the talents of two of the most incredible singers ever: Frida and Agnetha !!!!!!
This song makes me so happy inside, few groups can do this! I've always enjoyed this song and always wanted more, and now its complete! My first reaction to this release when I heard about it was: I wish they had reworked "Just like that" instead.The original demo recording wasn't my favourite but this new version grows on you I think and is a fine compliment to the first two songs.Hell,anything they give me after all these years is a blessing..Keep up the great work,David 👍

I've listened a few times now and love it. Trust me. Enjoy it on its own terms. How on earth could it ever have had the emotional impact and poignancy of ISHFIY and DSMD? It sounds like very old school Abba - their beginnings, the very happy years. We need happy. 3 for 3.
Jolly good fun, with fantastic instrumental. The music track was laid down in 2021 and the vocals were recorded in 1978, according to The Independent (online UK newspaper). It reminds me of Why did it have to be me.

It took me a while to "love" this song. I can see why it wasn't released at the time of Voulez Vous, as it feels like something from a much earlier ABBA. But after hearing it quite a few times, I really think it's so catchy... those Ahh... hah... hah s... 😆 Thanks again for your honest and heartfelt reaction to this new music. I knew ABBA was big in the world with its sound, but seeing so many people get touched by their music really does me a stir in my soul! When they made their breakthrough in the 1970s, the media did not exist in this way as it does today. When I look at different reactions, I get warm in my heart and have little hope for humanity. They always claimed that this song need more overdubs. I'm thinking that some harmonies are new and the last 2 lines as you said. They sound different and I've never heard those parts before. Even an ABBA cover band that got permission to record the complete song do not sing the part at the end.

I love "Just A Notion". It's a perfect combination of ABBA, Phil Spector, and Motown. The piano highlights at the end of the song are highly reminiscent of Leon Russel's piano performance at the end of Darlene Love's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)". Real good stuff!

Pure, unadulterated ABBA joy! A blast from the past made beautifully contemporary - "Now and then combined". Benny's piano riffs! - just WOW. The dynamics and energy in the song very reminiscent of their greatest hits, ABBA stays ABBA even after 40 years and this is wonderful! Ladies and gentlemen ...ABBA ARE BACK!
I just compared the original version and the new version. The vocals are so close and really hard to tell the difference, but if listen really carefully, there are some parts where Agnetha's voice are sharper in the original version, and also some words she sang sound different in the new version. I would believe ABBA kept the original essence but rerecorded everything. btw Agnetha's voice is still stunning!
It's not rerecorded, it's remastered from the ground up with the 78 session tapes.

@@khonsanug we have no way of knowing how many demos of this song they have in the vault, I can guarantee there will be way more than the 1 snippet that was released on ABBA Undeleted, and it is more likely than not that this is one of the alternate versions. The vocals do not sound new, both Frida and Agnetha are singing this song, if it was just Agnetha then the vocal would sound thinner and the metallic element of their combined harmony would not be present.
@@lounolastname4477 When I say different, it’s not just the vocals, but as a whole, even the instruments are slightly different. Yes you’re right, we never know if the vocals are new, that’s merely my analysis. As I said, I would believe in ABBA, that they will not just remaster a song that has been recorded decades ago and used it as it is just because it sounded great, they are now and then combined after all, and I still have faith in them haha.
What I’ve heard is that this was an alternate take of the vocals from the 1978 recordings. The vocals are not newly recorded, they just used a different version and blended it differently from the unreleased snippet from before.
Personally, I’m not 100% feeling this one. I feel like this is not a good blend of their voices. They are both singing, but Agnetha’s voice is too prominent and it loses that ABBA magic when they both sing both the harmony and the melody lines together.
In my opinion, the song has a mix of fresh and nostalgic sound probably inspired by the Motown sound which clearly shows the capacity of Benny and Bjorn to develop good music and of course the talents of two of the most incredible singers ever: Frida and Agnetha !!!!!!
This song makes me so happy inside, few groups can do this! I've always enjoyed this song and always wanted more, and now its complete! I love have it maintains the same energy level through out the song! Great reaction and feedback. You emotional response is completely relatable! Had exactly the same reaction. And that unexpected chord change at the end which makes you think for a split second that the song has changed key, is absolutely electrifying.

I've listened a few times now and love it. Trust me. Enjoy it on its own terms. How on earth could it ever have had the emotional impact and poignancy of ISHFIY and DSMD? It sounds like very old school Abba - their beginnings, the very happy years. We need happy. 3 for 3.
Jolly good fun, with fantastic instrumental. The music track was laid down in 2021 and the vocals were recorded in 1978, according to The Independent (online UK newspaper). It reminds me of Why did it have to be me.

It took me a while to "love" this song. I can see why it wasn't released at the time of Voulez Vous, as it feels like something from a much earlier ABBA. They always claimed that this song need more overdubs. I'm thinking that some harmonies are new and the last 2 lines as you said. They sound different and I've never heard those parts before. Even an ABBA cover band that got permission to record the complete song do not sing the part at the end.

I love "Just A Notion". It's a perfect combination of ABBA, Phil Spector, and Motown. The piano highlights at the end of the song are highly reminiscent of Leon Russel's piano performance at the end of Darlene Love's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)". Real good stuff!
