Top video. Question, in the comments you have listed the stain as General Finishes waterbased dye, but in the video at 4:55 I see the Speedball India Ink bottle. Which one did you actually use for the black stain? Thx.

If you heat the steel first with a torch before you spray the black until you no longer see the moisture dissipate with the heat then spray it and you will get a clean powder coat look especially if you use enamel paint... amazing job I love that finish
Love this table. I need to get a damn jointer. Would make my life so much easier.
They are such a great tool to have. I honestly can't imagine woodworking without one, especially if you use rough lumber. You can get a used 8" jointer for less than $600, well worth it for the time you'll save and nicer finished pieces you'll end up with.
@@craftedworkshop Yeah, I was looking them up after watching your video. I look them up often, but I was inspired again. Finally found some good 8" ones for some good prices. Definitely not going cheap though. Luckily, being in NC, there are a ton of tools locally for sale haha.

I highly recommend Permalac Protective Clear Coating. Comes in a lacquer rattle can (recommend the Satin finish) that will up the protection on your black paint! Its not powder coat quality but for the $ it's an affordable, durable, and fast drying alternative to protecting your metal finish

Awesome project! For your spray paint finishes in the future where you don't want to go all the way to powdercoating, I HIGHLY recommend Montana Gold spray paints. They go on super smooth (warm the cans for best surface finish) and the paint itself is incredibly durable.
Cool, I've tried them once or twice but I'll try them again. Do you add a primer or just go right onto the steel?

Could you perhaps achieve a similar results from a rubbing in a white paint primer if you first seal the black?

Maybe a tip for a next steel frame.. drill the holes before you weld everything togheter. so the trash from the drilling can fall out the tube. it’s only a little thing, but for some people it can be annoying to hear the steal trash inside of the frame when you lift the table.

I picked up a big chamfer bit like that only to find it wouldn't fit through the hole in my router base...which made me nervous so I didn't use it. I could have made a new acrylic base with a larger hole, maybe one day I'll try it. Great looking table, and love the finish. I imagine Rubio precolor in black probably would have the same effect perhaps.

I saw a bottle of India Ink on your table while you were applying the finish. But the link for the finish you put in the description is different. Curious which finish you actually used? I just used India Ink on oak for a small project and the results were “okay.” Looking to expand to a bigger project and seeking that “oh so perfect” black finish. Love your work, both projects and vids. Keep them coming!

Does the General Finishes stain provide enough protection even with the mono-coat topcoat (which basically just fills the grain)? I think you would (should) have used the Rubio Mono-coat stain, as well, or risk not having sufficient protection and needing some sort of poly protection added after curing. Sweet looking table!!!

I have bought the supplies and materials and am going to attempt to build this for our family. I do have a question on the Chamfer Edge. Did you use the 60 degree bit for both sides, or different angels? You reference another video where you did this, but I haven’t been able to find that. Appreciate any advise and thanks for the work you put into this channel. I am a new subscriber!
Try sanding the primer before adding the base coat. That will smooth it out and make it more durable too. You will probably need 2-3 coats of primer to do this without sanding through but it will make your base coat look much more consistent.

For a much better spray paint finish use graffiti spray paint. The most popular one is Montana and it works MUCH better than anything you can get at Lowe’s. Plus it comes in a huge variety of great colors

what is the meaning of jointing faces? I might be ignorant because i haven't worked with any other wood than maple, but is it not better or the same to joint an edge, then plane one face? that will still give you one nice edge and face, then you can measure, mark, and process your material off of those?

Since money seem no issue to you, you should go to Fireball Tool and get what you need for hold downs and form clamps.
Oh yeah, I've got a few items from Fireball, they're amazing. They just didn't happen to work with these weird angles. The table clamps are from Fireball.
