I grew up in the country in southern California; played in the dirt, road many horses, road 3 wheelers, served my country for almost 18yrs, no pretty girl just CC. ONE OF THE BEST CONCERTS I WENT TO IN MY LIFE!!!!
My hale and hearty grandfather’s photo at his retirement party showed him smiling with “take this job and shove it” below his photo. Johnny Paycheck didn’t look anything like what I expected him to. I pictured him as clean-shaven, a cowboy hat on, wire-framed glasses, long sideburns, short hair, a leather vest, and hearty smile with a guitar in his hands.
I had an IT friend of mine stream this song on repeat over the company's intercom, and then he and I both walked out. Message loud and clear after systematic employee harassment (impossible work load, mandatory overtime and weekends, total asshole supervisor acquired in a merger, etc.). Since he was the only IT guy onsite, rumor has it that the song played continuously for 45 minutes. They couldn't figure out how to shut it off and finally resorted to flipping the breaker switch off in the server section of the building which resulted in dozens and dozens of data files being lost or corrupted. Was told later that a few employees, who were cheering and singling the lyrics, were terminated on the spot. They were happy to leave, but a few months later, CEO was handed a subpoena: a stack of lawsuits for employee harassment, wrongful termination, fraud accusations, etc. I can't reveal the name of the company, but management was so bad it was irreparable and the company eventually closed. Love this song.
Good for you! So Glad to hear some Positivity for you and the ones who were work abused. I've been there- if I were at your old company I would have Definitely been one of the ones terminated for Singing this Beautiful, True Song.
This song reminds of my step dad when he worked at his ‘penitentiary’ job (throwing cow hides). He took his own life in 2008. I would have loved him playing this song on his last day .
I played this on the jukebox in the bar where I worked on my last day working just as I was walking out. Hearing it again brings back a lot of good memories, thanks for uploading.
i put this in my cd player and set it to play multiple repeats after 10/22/88.that was the day when i walked off my job at a milwaukee hotel after my boss got really threatening, which he frequently did.i went to my girlfriend's nearby apartment and spent the night there.when i got back to my place the next afternnoon there were 2 nasty messages left on my answering machine, one from my boss, the other from my supervisor demanding i call them immediately.funny how about a year later they asked me to come back, not once but twice.i was down on my luck for awhile but it was the best decision i ever made.
People like myself are tired of the toxic work environment corporate bs. I was playing this song in my car after quitting my job at the Ross warehouse.

This has to be my favorite song now because I count school as my job since I'm not old enough to work anywhere

I made em all look that morning I walked in with a boom box blasting this song...I clocked out and gathered my stuff as the song blasted...legend is I'm still a legend at that factory
I was in jail with paycheck . 1988 . Pladed this song every morning wake up 😊
I have always loved this song. J. Paycheck was an awesome singer.
Gretchen played a free concert at Little Creek Base in Virginia, I saw her with my bestie!!!! What an honor for us military/vets!!!! I grew up in the country in southern California; played in the dirt, road many horses, road 3 wheelers, served my country for almost 18yrs, no pretty girl just CC. ONE OF THE BEST CONCERTS I WENT TO IN MY LIFE!!!!
I walked out of the same job 3 times in the 80s. 4th time was the charm! Played this every time.
I’ve said this to everyone already but SERIOUSLY this anthem is absolutely underrated as F***! I’m still listening to it even now, every day.
If Johnny Paycheck were alive today, he'd be known as Johnny Direct-Deposit!
Sailbadthesinner666 did you buy that joke on lay a way then miss a payment ?
true story
🤣🤣
Lol
Johnny Temp Service
My hale and hearty grandfather’s photo at his retirement party showed him smiling with “take this job and shove it” below his photo.
Johnny Paycheck didn’t look anything like what I expected him to. I pictured him as clean-shaven, a cowboy hat on, wire-framed glasses, long sideburns, short hair, a leather vest, and hearty smile with a guitar in his hands.
Every time i quit a job i play this. playing this song after quitting is the best part of the entire job
Maybe it's time for you to settle on something you like? Lmfao
@@jelle7 why do that when it feels so good to quit?
You boys did amazing work!
Good for you! So Glad to hear some Positivity for you and the ones who were work abused. I've been there- if I were at your old company I would have Definitely been one of the ones terminated for Singing this Beautiful, True Song.
I love it. Good on you both!
This is the best quitting job story I've ever read..
i bet the ceo hates the song now
This song reminds of my step dad when he worked at his ‘penitentiary’ job (throwing cow hides). He took his own life in 2008. I would have loved him playing this song on his last day .
I played this on the jukebox in the bar where I worked on my last day working just as I was walking out. Hearing it again brings back a lot of good memories, thanks for uploading.
Good morning Lennice
Hello friend, I hope you're doing ok?
Written by David Allan Coe and sung by Johnny Paycheck. Great collaboration. Two outlaw country legends.
God Bless Johnny Paycheck. May he rest in peace. Love this tune even today.
i put this in my cd player and set it to play multiple repeats after 10/22/88.that was the day when i walked off my job at a milwaukee hotel after my boss got really threatening, which he frequently did.i went to my girlfriend's nearby apartment and spent the night there.when i got back to my place the next afternnoon there were 2 nasty messages left on my answering machine, one from my boss, the other from my supervisor demanding i call them immediately.funny how about a year later they asked me to come back, not once but twice.i was down on my luck for awhile but it was the best decision i ever made.
"SHOVE IT!" Well said. Outstanding. Well done. Thank you, Sir.

i work for 7.50 an hour, i feel like playing this song when i finally decide t quit
People like myself are tired of the toxic work environment corporate bs. I was playing this song in my car after quitting my job at the Ross warehouse.
Last few days at work I kept playing this while driving to work in the morning hahah . Hits different when you really feel it lol
I'm 15 and the first time I heard this song was about a month ago during the last week of school. I was listening to George Jones and I saw this song and knew I had to listen to it even though it's not by him. Then somehow I convinced my teacher to play this on the last day of school. This has to be my favorite song now because I count school as my job since I'm not old enough to work anywhere
Wow you listen to good ol George that’s nice to hear. There will never be another George Jones he was a great singer! I listen to him almost everyday! Nice to hear a young man likes some ol country
@@dorimckee9512 “He stopped loving her today!”
@@TriStateRailfannerJL99963 love that song and George quit drinking today
@@dorimckee9512 the song was featured in one of the 13 checks from a classic country radio station that became abandoned in early September of this year and then flipped to more modern-ish country
I wish I had access to the company P/A system when I quit without notice. Working at that company was going to put me in an early grave. Plus it was one of the most oppressive environments I've ever been in. One of those "family" companies that puts the "cult" in culture.
Played this in the shop on big system HAD THAT THANG AT 60 oh that foreman sure heard it !!!
Johnny Paycheck sang this from the get go!! I a love him for it.
This is such a great song as my last day is tomorrow at a job that tried to take my health and soul!
The first 8 track my dad would shove in the player when we headed out for vacation. Good memories.
Ain't come looking for this song for a couple years.
Not since the new boss took over. Things were great...WERE!
Now the facade's fallen!
Now this song's back in my head louder than ever!
Do it, Mike! You matter, let them know it!
Sent this song to the HR guy after I walked off site. He asked for an exit interview. I sent him this.
A constantly relevant song...but that's a pretty sad thing.
Back when country music was real not today's teenybopper country.
cuntry pop
I agree I'm only 18 but I live outlaw country. I ain't into Luke Bryan and suckers like him.
Luke Combs, Midland, and many others show that country is still good
David allan coe actually wrote this song.
I call todays garbage(not all, but most) Bubblegum Country!
My favorite part (and I love the whole thing with everything in me) is "My woman done left and took all the reason I was workin' for."
