maybe hes referring to cars like sls,slr,slr Stirling moss,clk,clr,sl65,c63,s65 and other iconic models from Amg/Mercedes and not necessarily 4 pot crossovers.

I honestly feel people who choose to buy this specific model must buy it for the styling. People bought AMGs for being fast but more importantly how they sounded. You can buy an X5 M60i with a V8 or buy an X3M with an inline 6 that are fast AND sound good… and have Digital Key functionality.
Some buyers are just more comfortable with brands, so they are probably MBZ owners already...I dont know exactly what digital key is but I say this car is very impressive and I would purchase over a BMW, Porsche and Audi model... (I have had MBZ's, BMW's, and Porsche ...cars, not suvs)...I haven't finished watching the video yet, nor have I gone to other sites to see the price...but it should be worth it...I mighta missed it, but I could do without SOME of the engine growling sounds (yes, I am older)....
Bro, are you sure you'd prioritize a 2.0T AMG engine over an I6 or V8? 😂I adore AMG, but for a 2.0 AMG, it's a no from me.@@MoveoverAndbark

Priced at 100k+. Its seems counterintuitive with a smaller engine. I can bet with a bigger engine minus the battery it would’ve cost cheaper to build. I don’t know who this car is for.
It's all about looks and bragging rights.... Most people who don't know or either don't care with powering the car they just concerned about the speed and it's a Mercedes and it's AMG...

Very cool! I like the very interesting techy powertrain, there's always the other AMG you mentioned if you want something simpler and more old school.

F1 Cars get way more out of even smaller engines. The true magic is to make this engines reliable. I doubt this engine will last anything near 200.000 km.

The best thing about my W205 4.0L C63S was that it could play around below 50kph in heavy traffic. Could just flick the gas pedal and it would growl, snarl and pop at those low speeds and low rpm. Can this 4-cyl do any of that at all??

twin turbo V8 owner here and I think the crazy 4cyl performance power units can be a lot of fun (i.e. Polestar 1). I'm sure the next gen of this Merc PU will be more of what we expect - better MPG and battery performance. As for the plug in part, maybe it's biggest function is to trigger the plug in EV tax credit ($7500) here in the USA. That's if this GLC qualifies, the law is so confusing lol
US lease tax credit is a benefit, but regulations in EU and China are the primary driving factors. Both are far more stringent than the US. China specifically taxes based on displacement. US tax credit hadn't actually passed when Merc was planning this powertrain (years ago).
I'm still curious to see real-world MPG by owners who plug it in every night and primarily commutinlng. I bet it'll be pretty solid.
And yes, the US tax credit law is absurdly complicated lol.
Interested in a perspective from an owners side. Would you consider trading yours for a new 4 cylinder C/GLC?
These cars are getting so heavy, and you definitely feel it, haven driven the new c63. What would be alot better would be to have smaller hybrid battery and keep the v8.

I have a question, does the 200hp is always available and the engine continuously charges it or being a plug in hybrid we have to plug it to achieve the full 680hp?
Not always. Max. 10 seconds and i have to check if u can repeat it or not

Worthless 2L amg at least give a 3L. I know that they have tuned the 2L to give the same max performance but bro no one is gonna stretch to that max speed. Everyone wants the mid range kick from the bigger engine which will be more lively

It may not make any Sense, but this is hack powerfull car. 3l engine would be less powerfull, less sporty. It much much more simpler and less expensive…
I am not a Fan of that concept. There are more disadvantages than advantages.
V6/i6:
Smoother run
More power output
Much easier to tune
Way more reliable
Better power curve
Better sound (personal preference)
Only advantage of a 2.0 i4 is less weight compared to 6 Zylinder.
The glc 63e is 250kg heavier than x3m. That's a lot.
Even the 400d is a 3.0L R6 so basicially it has a better engine than the AMG version lol

I am so glad I bought the previous gen GLC 43. Not a fan of the new one's interior (big touch screen) nor it's motor (4 cyl option only). Previous gen looked more aggressive and had a better stance. This gen's shape gives me Lincoln Towncar MKT vibes.

I really love these extraordinary cars-and reviews!-but realistically, most drivers will find themselves stuck behind trucks and Camrys much of the time. No autobahn for most of us, sadly. 😊
Not in Europe. Trucks are a non-factor and so is Camry.
Corolla drivers are even worse, uber timid and basically given up on driving

In this era, the residual value of the AMG is louder and more expensive than any future car
it looks like the best ones in this gen are C43 and GLC43
Customers will teach Merc a lesson, there are plenty good engines at this price point with similiar performance and fun without all the meanlingless hassles.

I hope Mercedes learn from the poor sales of the AMG C class that customers don’t want this level of tech overload. This will be as unpopular. Porsche has shown you can still produce great ICE performance SUVs within current emission levels.
Porsche can only do so, because they sell so many Taycans and they will also not bring out new ICE SUVs anymore - all future models will be electric only. Porsche plans to sell 80% BEVs by 2030. Mercedes currently has bigger issues meeting the emission targets - selling this GLC or C63 with a V8 would result in a 13.000€ fine per vehicle today (and increasing in the future).
Everything Mercedes can learn here is to not do in between things, but fully move to EV instead. That‘s the only other option they have.
@@timonxDlolThat’s got nothing to do with why AMG are selling this car as a replacement for a high displacement engine. They have way more flexibility with their mix of ICE, hybrid and EVs. There’s nothing to stop Porsche continue to sell ICE SUVs if they continue with their e fuel argument with the EU. Liking your own comment 😂
@@funkyfin3023 they have 0 flexibility. They cannot meet the fleet emissions and have to reduce them a lot and that‘s why the c63e has a 4 cyl which on paper emits 100g less co2 per Km than the V8 which saves mercedes >10.000€ per vehicle
@@timonxDlol😂 stop talking nonsense. They have flexibility across their range to increase EV and PHEV production and balance their emissions that way like all manufacturers. One model in the entire range doesn’t determine that balance and there is no specific 10k impact on one vehicle. Bye.

I understand Thomas’ criticisms for the seemingly undue overteching of this vehicle as the means to ‘best SUV performance,’ but my main concern would be the effect on price. It is bound to be expensive to both buy and maintain, let alone run. All that leaves you wondering: how much can I save buying from the competition? I would be comparing Porsche here.
