Pigment paste is mixed with epoxy resin (some use part A, others use part B), and we all know epoxy resin doesn't play well with water or oil products. Great tutorial experiment.
I hope so. This is quite an old video. Since making this one I have discovered the colours from Create & Bloom and Homeware Designs which are all definitely worth the investment too
Yes it worked well. since I made this video I discovered the colours from Homeware Designs, Boowan Nicole and Create & Bloom. Mush easier to use and much more intense colours :)
Hi Tracey great video, i was shouting at the screen saying no dont use paste as it epoxy based 😂 great results with the food colouring and paint, thanks for sharing ❤❤❤ xxx
Lol thanks Michelle - and you won the T Shirt slogan competition. Please would you email me - miniscenesgb@gmail.com - to let me know what size T Shirt :)
yes they do. Since making this video I've come across the pigments from Just4YouOnlineUK and Homeware designs. a lot heavier pigment than paints so a lot easier to get stronger colours
Ive used alcho ink, mica, nail varnish, chalk, pigment paste and fluid, oil and acrylic and wood stain! I found if you mixed with the water and add it to the powder especially the pigment paste and fluid worked better, but still gave the stone look, which i liked on the bath 😊
Nice experiment! I think the resin paste is a fail bc it’s the pigment mixed with the part A of epoxy resin. Seem the pigment would have absorbed the resin (part A) and thus it becomes not water soluble. I remember a while back seeing several videos of Part A being used to make pastes.. I now make my own pastes when I have excess of part A left at the end in the bottles instead of throwing it away. We can make special color mixes (like interference red with purple micas..or any combo imaginable) I have loads of different special colors we can’t buy on the market. Anyway I love your experiment today!!! I don’t work with this medium or jesmonite but it’s always interesting to see & there’s usually a take away for the medium I’m using. Have a lovely day❤❤ see you in the next 🌹
I love the experiments too see what works and what does not. It's fun to guess what will happen and then see what actually happens. We have not tried any other materials other than resin. I figured liquid that is soluble in water would work. Thanks for the fun time. 😊
It's fun stuff and the makes are surprisingly durable. I'll be making jewellery with it soon, it's very versatile, and yes, safe :) If you do, don't forget to use the discount code - MiniScenes15. 15% is worth saving :)
This was SO helpful! Thank you for taking the time to do this and share your ideas. It is great to know about acrylic paint, food colouring, and alcohol inks. They look lovely. I received my Aqua cast yesterday, and I'm looking forward to trying out some new colours. The pigments i bought specifically for eco resin were very drab and disappointing. Now, i can use up a load of paints and inks. Your tutorial was much appreciated x ❤
You're welcome. I'm not sure if the food colouring might fade over time, but it really worked. For me the best was the acrylics as that opens up unlimited possibilities
Just a thought. Perhaps the Pigments may be mixed with something to make it into a paste that doesn't react well with the water in the eco pour? An oil based liquid perhaps?
Thank you for another fun, informative video. 😍 Have you tried putting the chameleon powder on the mold first? I wonder about gold foil on the mold, too?🤔 So happy the alcohol ink and mica powder worked, Ihave a ton of those.🥰
Yes I have - it's not great. it just doesn't stick. I wouldn't bother to be honest. these eco resin alternatives just aren't sticky. it will mix into the powder though, but its so disappointing. better results with the other colourings - and cheaper too
VERY helpful, Tracey! I can't over the alc ink and food coloring...awesome surprise! A not-so pleasant surprise was the pigment paste. Honestly thought it would work well, but no! Thanks for taking the trouble to do so many experiments! 😊❤
This is the second time I've watched this, once before I started fooling around with acrylic casting mediums and now after a week of disasters😂 I did not test food coloring however, in Resincrete everything worked very well. In Magic Pour, acrylic paints work but they seize up when mixing with the powder. One _can_ make it work however, 1-2 grams of extra water are needed to get it to mix up at all. Add the 1-2g _after_ the paint to loosen it up. 1-2 grams are within the manufacturer's tolerance when measuring everything by weight ratios. I really wished either of the pigment experiments had worked, I have not tried them. I like rich, saturated colors and sadly we cannot achieve them with only adding colorants. I do have another idea...😉👍
I don't use Resincrete or Magic pour so I can't comment on how those work but this video is old, nowadays I use proper pigments with my Eco Pour, like the ones from Homeware Designs, Just4YouOnlineUK and Boowan Nicole
@@miniscenesgb Do you (or anyone else reading this) by any chance know good EU (Netherlands) brands? i am in the process to get some from Homeware as well.
