  • Quest 3 and Quest 2 owners - the games we have, and the games we will get in 2024 have to take all this to heart! Adventure games, puzzle games, FPS games, fitness games, RPG games, VR experiences in general - virtual reality players demand a lot, and that demand may or may not be being met. Let's discuss here - let your voice be heard!
I started with a Vive Pro, moved to a Valve Index, and have also owned the Oculus Rift, Rift S, Oculus Go, Quest, Quest 2 and Quest 3. With every headset, and every game, I've had problems with frame rate, game loops, immersion, and graphics overall. In this video, we'll discuss what's most important to us in our Virtual Reality games.

Hi Julian, I've watched a few of your videos now and I like where you're going. I'm in my sixties and have been gaming since playing pinball at the mall arcade. But now playing video games whether it's flat or VR, the biggest thing that keeps me immersed is a good story, it doesn't matter if it's action hor ror or puzzle if the story is good it keeps me there. Keep the great videos coming and I hope you have a great day.

Thank you so much for the comment, and I feel very similarly. I've been playing games since a teen when the Atari 2600 came out, and the Apple II was THE computer to have, and have enjoyed games since. However, once VR came around, it took me to a whole other level with the immersion. Combined with a great story, there are few things that get me more invested in a game or experience. Story is key, truly. Keep playing, and glad you're enjoying VR! More vids to come, and thanks for watching.

The two things that I believe depend more on each player's age (length and graphics) are indeed hard to nail down since devs must define wisely to cater to the broadest of audiences.
But we must all agree that first, latency and frame rate is essential for a better and healthier experience, while gameplay loop and immersion makes a game stand out in the media...
For me, the game must challenge me with it's core mechanics, be it puzzles or dungeon crawling, with enough length to keep me invested to overcome the next obstacle, but the catch is: not long enough to overstay it's welcome and become tiresome.
Here's for more experiences like the Light Brigade, Puzzling Places or SuperHot, that uses the player time wisely and lasts just enough to be memorable.
By the way, have you tried Puzzling Places or Cubism yet? Both have gameplay loops of just a couple minutes, but still you can lose track of time from one stage to another.

Wonderful points here all around, and I agree how important it is, on a CORE level, to have good frame rate and low latency. Without that, any experience can be terrible for most players, no matter how great the rest of the aspects may be. So, you may be on to something that those might be the "most" important overall in VR. And, experiences that challenge are so great - some of my favorites have been THE ROOM - A DARK MATTER, and I'm currently playing through SCORN using the UEVR mod to bring it into VR. I have played some PUZZLING PLACES, and really enjoyed it! You're right, it can suck you in, and make you just play puzzle after puzzle. And SUPER HOT is amazing. Love that one So unique, and only really possible to that degree within VR. Thanks for the comment, and hope you keep loving and playing VR!

@@jollyjulian ooh, I haven't thought of Scorn in VR yet, I should try that, and it is was on discount on Steam the last time I've checked. I heard that UEVR also works wonders on Trepang2, that spiritual successor to F.E.A.R., might as well get it too.
