    I need to get me some sculpters to make figurines of this. It would make for a great miniature combat game.

    Thanks so much for diving in the lore of the multiplayer game. Never bothered to play, since I'm such a sucker for the single player lore feasts. Now I know even more about my favorite gaming series background.

      Gameplay was meh but the lore was pretty bitchin'. Seeing the clans in their prime was just too cool.

    Looking at the SR1 era, after Kain and Raziel left (and Turel got kidnapped), the humans would for sure win. It was just a matter of time. They already took out Dumah and their fortress. They got close to burning Zephon in his lair. If they consolidate and continue the infiltration of the cathedral, they'll eventually succeed and can activate the hymn to exterminate the left over devolved vampires.
    As for what really happens, I think nothing. Kain as the scion of balance is gonna make sure the entire era never happens. He no longer has the heart of darkness, so no necromantic creation of vampires is possible. With the pillars restored of corruption in the last guardian, guardians will start being born again among humans. With the ability to resurrect Vorador and retrieve Janos, original vampiric transferal as taught by the ancients is possible again, restoring guardians to vampires.
    The last thing required is breaking the blood curse of the Hylden, so the animosity between vampires and humans is resolved.

      I have one issue with this, yes, Kain is aiming to restore Nosgoth, but Soul Reaver 1 era still needs to happen, simply because there has to be younger Kain maturing, creating his sons, including Raziel, throwing him to the Abyss, shatter original Sould Reaver, then luring him to the Chronoplast and leaving for the past, starting the loop again. So I would say if there is any salvation for Nosgoth, then it has to happen after Soul Reaver era, specificaly after Kain and Raziel depart and Turel is kidnapped

      I think he'd still be able to reanimate vampires through necromancy since it's him taking a part of his soul, not the Heart of Darkness. What would change however is that the new generation of post-purification Kain would be free of Nupraptor's corruption that plagued the Six Clans.
      I'd also wonder if the Elder God is revealed to have been the real threat to every race if Kain would try to mend the rift not just between humans and vampires, but also with the Hylden now that the Pillars are gone

    Sarafans are my favorite, mainly because i like knights and i find the idea of guys able to take on vampires in close combat to be pretty badass...
    But Iron Guard also captured my heart- mostly because anybody could become one with right training. Red Sisters?- only females. Seers?- also only females and have to be cultists. Drowning Men?- outside of rather stupid idea of throwing axes(they can be thrown back you know...) some weird, magical skills. Same with Scourge- and they are emotionless killers, that have been bred in one specyfic place in Nosgoth. And Watchers can do Predator's trick- but Iron Guard? You pick a soldier from our world, drop him in the middle of War of Subjugation, give him few hours to familiarize himself with new gear and he's good to go. One would only have to go through normal fitness and combat training to be efficient vampire killer
    Edit: by the way- somebody make a wallpaper or something out of this 39:08- that knight looks great

    Even though Dead Sun didnt have much thematical simalrties to the old games i stil think it looked like a cool game regardles and thats why its cancelation stings
    hopefully we get a new game under Embracer Group i would be fine with either a reboot, a sequel to Defiance or a Remake of Soul Reaver

    I don't remember where I seen this, but I have the idea that, canonically, it was Kain that wiped out the Razielim himself, right after casting Raziel into the abyss

    • @bazlmoon
      @bazlmoon Рік тому +1

      There was never any confirmation of that and that's kinda where Nosgoth's lore sprang from.
      The entire idea that kain wiped out the Razielim was Raziel's assumption - and when he directly asks, kain gives a vague answer like he's avoiding the question.
      Add to that the later revelations that kain wasn't acting out of jealousy surrounding Raz's wings but to provoke Raziel into following him back in time, the winged vampire concept art and word from developers that it's more likely that the other clans turned on them and a few may have survived - and you have the basis for the Razielim survival fan theory that was the basis for why Nosgoth went the route it did.

    • @TA-by9wv
      @TA-by9wv Рік тому

      @@bazlmoon when raziel enters his territory he says something about kain wiping out his clan "like excrement off a boot" and during the first fight with kain he says "what have you done with my clan degenerate, you have no right"
      Heavy implication that kain puts raziels clan to the sword after the execution

    • @bazlmoon
      @bazlmoon Рік тому

      @@TA-by9wv yeah as mentioned above. Both Raziel assuming and when directly questioned kain is evasive. It's been picked up by fans for years as a bit weird and allowing for further survival... That coupled with the further plot developments, winged vampire concepts, and later word from developers has led to other possibilities arising and being popular in the fandom.
      Not really necessarily saying that it would definitely be the case, just that there was definite wiggle room for people who believed they survived for a time.
      I think melchiah is the best counter tbh when he says Raziel is "the last to die" implying that by the time of raz's return melchiah thinks they have been wiped out. Again though there's still wiggle room for them to have survived for years after raz's execution before meeting a date with destiny - and that's where Nosgoth jumped off from.

    • @ajohnymous5699
      @ajohnymous5699 Рік тому

      I mean, Melchiah could also be referring to the order of their deaths as Sarafan or even as Kains vampiric sons, since Rahab knew that he was going to be destroyed. Maybe Kain told him too, since Melchiah and Rahab were more loyal than Dumah, Turel and Zephon. Maybe Melchiah was also visited by Kain

    • @Narcian150
      @Narcian150 Рік тому

      That would be a pointless waste of Kain's time. He only needs the Wraith Raziel to exist as soon as possible as seen in the Chronoplast, so he can start motivating him into situations where reaver convergence events happen. By the time of SR1, Kain has already seen the futility of his necrotic vampires (and everything post Vorador's death.). They are stuck with corruption, same as him. His only goal is to get the means to redo time before the pillars are broken and have the means to turn newly born guardians to vampires to power them.

    Somewhat disagree with your interpretation around 12:00 - 13:00. I believe that neither "won" per se, as the world spiraled down into oblivion. We can see both humans and vampires diminished. The war wound down, changed, and devolved into raids and stand offs as the world died. However, we see the humans actively gaining ground, for what it's worth.
    Two key points stand out to me. First is that Kain's empire is gone and the humans are free and are actively fighting, even going so far as to mount large scale attacks, such with the Dumahim. An entire clan is scattered, fortress destroyed, and their founder left for dead. And this was done by humans.
    Heck, the Turelim were stricken from the game entirely! All by the hand of human game designers and programmers! Truly a power beyond compare. :D
    Rahab, Melchiah, and Zephon all maintain their own lairs, but those are more...lairs. While the humans have only one major settlement that we see, but the vampires have almost none, at least in the sense of the empire they once held. No real monuments, building, or infrastructure. We don't even slave pens. It seems they operate more from captured or dead humans and the cults that worship them. No chained masses even at the level of Vorador's mansion. Furthermore, we even see evidence of attacks from the human penetrating into their territory, from the Necropolist to the Ash Citadel, even going as far as to threaten innermost sanctums, like with Zephon.
    So, it seems like it's all a wasteland with raids of various strength happening, but the humans stand on their own, endure, and continue to fight.
    That being said...pretty sure that world is DOOMED. :D
    Overall, amazing video! Thank you for these.

      To be fair, the section immediately preceding that does say it's unclear who won the war or if there even was a winner. They've both fallen a long way to be sure and you could definitely say the humans have the upper hand. However purely in terms of areas under their control, the vampires appear to have more territory. Certainly accept it could be interpreted either way though.
