All had races where nothing seems to go right, looks a bit more chill on the boat which is far nicer
Love your idea of filming the crew actions. I will be sharing your video with my friends and family to give them the thrill of crewing without actually crewing. I have captained my boat this fall in just 2 club races. It is almost more exciting than I needed! Last race a boat almost ran into us, I had to take fall off- they were not watching! Still came in 8th out of 16! O'day 28
An overtaking boat has no rights.
this is not a true statement. a starboard boat overtaking a port tack boat downwind has rights. before the start, an overtaking boat that establishes an overlap to leeward has to initially keep clear but has luffing rights. a boat that overtakes another after the start outside of two boat lengths to leeward has luffing rights. within two boat lengths you have to sail proper course. The word "overtaking" doesn't appear in the RRs.
Pre-start you need to have someone dedicated to the main sheet.
Great video, 3 people enjoying being on the water together, there's nothing wrong with that!
edit: answer to your question: Rule 11. you had the right of way.
Thanks for that!
Wow great video😂
Self-tailing winches would help a lot. :)
I have them on my own boat and they are great, especially for solo sailing ...but the cost of those things to put on an old boat.... they would be more expensive then the boat itself.
