  • Today we're back harvesting what we affectionately call black gold. Last year's black bean harvest was our second ever video on the channel and that feels like it was just yesterday. Thank you for watching and remember, its a great day to feed the world and harvest some black gold.

That’s a neat idea with the slabs of hay

Gotta get most of the soybeans out of there!

Great video, but better you than me Tom! Tried those one year and after figuring out how much they take from ya in a “pick”, one year was enough, but in all fairness I think a rotary combine does a better job. LOVE that 9670!

Some years we do great, other years not so good. Usually I enjoy them!

Interesting watching you clean out the combine. We have never messed with eatable beans here in TN (no market for them) so it never crossed mind that you had clean out the combine between crops

Soybeans are considered an allergen so after we did 55 acres of soybeans we needed to clean out. Thanks for the comments!

Nice to see you remembered 👌🏻
Thanks for the info! We will give it a try with those settings.
We are a couple weeks from harvesting our pinto beans, at what percentage of moisture do you find they split the least?
What are the concaves you use for beans?
I hope I can record some of the harvest process so you can see how we do it around here
    Thanks and great video!

Anything over 16% is best! Ours split a lot worse this year for some reason

Splits always look worse in black beans than pintos just because of the color

    • @Thewaywefarm

Very true, last year only had a few splits

Do you grow pintos? No one grows them in western New York but our buyer wants us to try some next year.

@@Thewaywefarm just used to combine them. Not really different than black beans. But when I was doing it everyone was rodding and windrowing them. Now they either swath or straight cut them. World's of difference.
