What does set this apart from creating my instruments racks in Ableton Live or creating my templates in Cockos Reaper. Isnt this just another layer of?
@@chezchezchezchez Yeah I think I did. Its a very creative and inspirational tool. Playing around with different plugins and layers etc. The latest updates has also brought a bounce of great features and for me stability. I don't see what it does what should not be done on DAW level. Studio One has multi instruments and also a multi fx hosting (more hidden). Workflow? Edit: Ok you answered elsewhere, it's workflow. Will curiously look at you thing 😊
I just don't understand the point of this. I can already layer different VSTs in my DAW and play them at the same time, and I don't really need another synth. What exactly is Unify doing that is different than layering in Cubase or any other DAW?
Seems to be mostly a workflow thing. You can probably link parameters from different knobs of different plugins in Cubase to control them with a single macro knob but this one brings that kind of things into one interface. Now I'm not sure if I *need* it cause I can probably work my way around this stuff within my DAW (Reaper) but as said, if it looks like something that could improve your workflow it might be worth it.
I wanted to make a place where you can play with all of your plug-ins and in many cases easier than the way they work in your DAW of choice. Using MIDI effects is not easy in Cubase, not easy in Ableton Live or many other DAW applications. Having 1 Cthulhu play 4 synths at once is difficult to impossible in your DAW but it's super easy in Unify. Also, I'm in the patch making business - I've have 80 libraries for sale at my site for a single plug-in per library. I can now make a library that combines 2 synths in the same library. Or I can make a library for Arturia's plug-ins and everybody that owns their set of Plug-ins can enjoy a library that uses all of their synths. So it was actually built for my own voicing reasons but also ends up be a great benefit to everybody else too it appears. :D
@@PlugInGuruVideo - Ok thanks for explaining. I don't really use MIDI effects and I'm not a professional sound designer, so I'm just not sure there's a use case for me. I'd have to try a demo first.
@@Tremendouz - yeah, but $60 for a workflow improvement... I'd have to play with it for at least a few weeks to even begin to justify that kind of expense. I'm pretty happy with my workflow already.
Hi, I use Keys Step Pro to control and sequence some digital synthesizers installed in Ableton, including Dune 3, Arturia Pigment, Diva, etc. When I'm playing music live and need to change from one Preset to another, I access the Sound Bank of the respective Synthesizer and select the Preset to be changed. Does Unify allow me to select the Presets for each Synthesizer and from this selection/mapping of the presets, I can activate the preset that I will use, play, making the preset selection operation faster and simpler?
Hi Steven - we listen to MIDI Clock from either our internal clock or External from your DAW. We have a button on the Transport/Sync page labeled "Follow Host" which will sync internally until it gets clock and then switch to following that clock instead. Works like a charm :D
We're not the first, but we have a workflow that is designed by someone that has done nothing but voicing for 30 years (me) and is cross-platform so you or I can create something and share it with others regardless of what DAW they choose to use. I can't think of a place where MIDI Effects work so easily with as many plug-ins as you wish to use, even key windowing or velocity limiting each layer to make truly mind blowing results from a single MIDI effect. Showing up after installing with 400 patches that work without even scanning your Plug-Ins puts us into a different mindset. We show up ready to play, just load your plug-ins and have fun. If it's not appealing to you then take care and happy 2020 to you.
So is this a sort of Komplete Kontrol but for everything and not just NI products? Also, i have quite a few of your libraries, John...Am i right in saying these will show up in Unify or have i got the wrong end of the stick :D
You can load any of your existing plug-ins inside Unify, e.g. Omnisphere, and use any of your PlugInGuru sounds inside, THEN layer on completely different instruments to make NEW combination sounds in Unify.
My ears perked up.... each instrument on its own thread. ... can you confirm that this is working with Reaktor from Native Instruments. it is notorious for not scaling across cores and i am wondering if loading multiple instances in Unify will distribute the load across the available threads/cores.
Each plug-in is on a thread so Reaktor will still take up a thread - it gets interesting when you use Reaktor with something else and now they are EACH on their own thread, then add another and IT is on it's on thread. Put the power of your whole computer to work. :D
Would like to see some way of uploading Windows 32 bit Vst2 plugs into unify running on Mac osx; that ould be so cool, as presently it is possible but looks a bit nerdy to set up, using Ardino i think. The alternative is to boot camp my osx ith Windows and run JBridge in Windows wwith another Windows DAW to access the hundreds of 32 bit VSTs out there. But this looks a cool alternative to Reason - although because there is a limit on will run in Reason - in terms of VST 2 - it is betyter for my productivity, otherwise would get no work done because i ould spend studio time downloading VSTs!!! Still, Unify looks like it is for productivity not nerdiness.
Hey guys, congratulations on Unify, it looks awesome! I’m on Catalina... what kind of time frame do you have for it in Catalina? Hoping it will be during the intro price?
Questions. 1. Can the output of a midi lane be input to more than one instrument lane? 2. Can the output of a midi lane be used outside of Unify - e.g recorded into my DAW? 3. Is there anything like Logic's midi scripter that can be used in the midi lane? Thanks.
Hi Sean - Each MIDI Lane can be assigned to as many of the unlimited instrument lanes as you wish to connect (this is our huge advantage over most ever DAW). We do not have MIDI outputs in the DAW but that is something we wish to add (at least to record into your DAW) in the future. We have no MIDI scripting with V1.0 of Unify. Thank you for your interest.
What does THIS have to do with my home network? This looks more like a subscription service. Did you change it? Did it become something else? Is there a video where you talk about what "Unity is/How it works" for those of us who only wanted a Docker or to VM machines locally? Please clarify.
I am not exactly sure what you are saying friend. Unify is an instrument with 505 Patches using over 50 included plug-ins (some we built and some we received permission to include to use for our voicing). Unify can also load and use most ever VST, VST3, Audio Unit (Mac) Instrument, Audio Effect and MIDI Effect Plug-Ins you own. This video is 6 months old and we've had a number of updates that have added new features for free. There is no subscription service. There is no networking. We're not just a "Docker" whatever that is. We're a fun creative environment to work with all of your plug-ins. We are a company of 2 people myself (John) and Shane (lives in Canada and writes the code). Cheers and good luck to you.
There are numerous differences but the biggest one my friend is that Unify comes with 400 patches that will knock your socks off before you ever even scan your plug-in folders. Patcher requires you to set it up (it's a utility) while Unify is an INSTRUMENT with Utility abilities but (to me) far easier to get into deep experimental mode than with Patcher. Patcher is cool but it's not Unify.
@@HexagonMusic - that's just it - all the other multi-plugin plugins are sold as a utility. This is sold as a capable instrument with 400 places to go before you ever scan your plug-ins. Cheers!
Ableton VST2: will UNIFY work ? => "We are aware that for VST/VST3 are not recognized in Ableton Live. However, the Audio Unit version of Unify is - so please use the Audio Unit version for now.") ... would love to know in English what that means. Thank you !
Hi Christopher - I have many different computers including an older MBP. I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised with Unify on your computer. It doesn't magically give it powers it didn't have before but it better manages them with each layer attaching to a separate computer core. You'll have no problems playing all of the factory patches plus adding your own plug-ins to them. Cheers and contact us if you have more specific questions. Also try the free demo of Unify at our website if you want to try before you buy.
You simply load the Unify VST onto a track as you would any other VST and then start using Unify. Within that instance of Unify you can then load other VSTs like Omnisphere to play any patches that aren’t part of the Unify Factory Library.
@@skemsen I’m sure John is already working on all sorts of videos to explain everything in detail. You could also watch some of his latest live streams (I admit they are a bit lengthy when you’re only interested in specific questions but most are worth a watch anyway) where he used and showed the pre-release versions inside Logic.
Hi PlugInGuru, important question! I'm working with Finale V26 and wish to upload multiple different patches from the same vst plugin, for now I can't do it with Finale V26 (each time uploading is the same patch chosen earlier in the plugin) is it possible with the UNIFY? help is much appreciated, thanks :)
Everything I wanted in my DAW's plugin management is right there. Now instead of describing it to them I can just say copy what PlugInGuru did... Meanwhile, maybe I'll just replace it all with Unify
@@PlugInGuruVideo I have most of your libraries so if its going to be catalina"d at some point in the future that's good enough for me. Amazing accomplishment.. on your part
I’m kind of confused. Do you need to earn on omnisphere and keyskape and a bunch of these third-party plug-ins in order to have these sounds play and having this plug-in unify them together or are all the sounds that you played in this video actually included in this plug-in?
Any sounds with "Guru Sampler" powering them are built in and taken from Johns sound libraries. Piano etc is included as are many fx. He pretty much shows you what is built in and what is added, like the Roland D50 plugin ..
Hi thomas - the 400 patches I show do not require any 3rd party plug-ins other than those installed by our Unify installer. That's the magic of Unify is that it's set up - ready to go instead of being a tool that you need to set up like over multi-loading plug-ins. The D-50 is only available if you subscribe to the Roland Cloud which is awesome because you get so many awesome instruments (TB-303, TR-808 / 909 / D-50 and many others).
Yes please - to date, this was very much an inner "vision quest". I didn't look at any other plug-ins that work this way. I only had my vision of what I wanted this to become and Shane went thru hours and hours and hours of me saying - this isn't quite right until we got it right. But now I'm very interested in other ideas you and other customers have for how to drive this boat in the future. This is just the beginning and I want our relationship to be a long healthy one. Send any ideas to unifysupport@pluginguru.com. We welcome any and all comments. Thank you for your business, Saif.
Hey hi there: Is it possible to use all the effects of the instrument Falcon UVI on an another 3rd party instrument? Falcon Doesn't any inputs, only samples but uses all the effects of UVI
Hi Oliver, Unify is not able to connect to the effects of a plug in - even if it has inputs at this time. Nice idea but if a plug-in doesn't have audio inputs then no plug in will be able to overcome that limitation.
"Are you ready? I don't think you're ready...." Dear John, my wallet officially hates you. :P Kidding, of course! So now, I have to decide between this or some of your Omnisphere patches.....this could take a while. Great vid though, and congratulations on the release. I know you've been working on this one for "some" time, now.
So, when you chose a BPM patch and press a chord/note what exactly happens? Does it just play some random sequences from the included instruments, or does match the pitches and harmonies to the note or chord played on the keyboard?
Hi To Mi - it's not an auto keyboard unless you buy and load a MIDI effect with intelligent chord functions (they exist). The included Blue ARP is a very nice, powerful arpeggiator that we use for many of the BPM patches you hear. Play a note and it plays an arp pattern and that pattern can be pretty complex. But with the ability to load ANY MIDI effect, add Cthulhu or other MIDI Effects and what you can do gets even better.
@PluginGuru: I can really see the potential of Unify to be a killer sound playground. I own several Omnisphere libraries and one of Omnispheres strengths is the wavetables. Will Unify in the future have some kind of wavetable synth built in?
Synthesis is very important to us! I can't promise anything specific at this time because we just released version 1.0.1 an hour ago! But we have HUGE plans for things we are going to bring into Unify.
I feel like I'm missing something? Isn't this what Ableton's Instrument and Effects Racks have been doing for the past decade? And FL's patcher? And I know Reaper and Studio One, and Bitwig have a similar function.
Yes - many others DAW's and Plug-Ins sorta do similar things. They are mostly (with all due respect to each of them) rather clumsy when it comes to programming workflow. They are also marrying YOU to a specific platform that you have to use. Get used to how it works in Live, switch to Studio One and it's a whole different interface with a different set of limitations. I was aiming higher because I don't want to be limited to just one platform. I was also being selfish because I make and sell patch libraries. I want a place I can mix and match plug-ins to make new sounds AND sell them to you and everyone else regardless of their committed platform. It's the plug-in I dreamed of making - it's a daunting task because we're building a DAW you load as a plug-in basically. We're far from perfect but we're very proud of where we are for being on the market for 4 days. We also have BIG PLANS - this is week #1 of it's life. Cheers.

@@hostnik777 Fair enough, and same. It looks pretty nice but I don't have an urgent need for it.
What kind of reverb were used? Is this in the Unify? Sounds very nice.
László Csikos - I’m not using any additional effects - 100% Unify!
@@PlugInGuruVideo Thanks the quick response! Sounds very nice to my ear.
*John* , Do those BPM Split presets sync with whatever BPM your host is, or are they only at a certain BPM each?
Hi Steven - we listen to MIDI Clock from either our internal clock or External from your DAW. We have a button on the Transport/Sync page labeled "Follow Host" which will sync internally until it gets clock and then switch to following that clock instead. Works like a charm :D
This looks amazing! is this a standalone app, not possible to include it as a plugin in my DAW? Mac only?
Hi friend - comes in VST2/VST2/AU/AAX and stand alone, PC and Mac included. Patches made on your Mac will play on your neighbors PC 😊
@@PlugInGuruVideo excellent + thank you!
In Studio One it's a built-in function to combine instruments and add effects on them however you want, so this is not new
We're not the first, but we have a workflow that is designed by someone that has done nothing but voicing for 30 years (me) and is cross-platform so you or I can create something and share it with others regardless of what DAW they choose to use.
@@PlugInGuruVideo OR you can just delete my comment ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@gerhardwasowski - I don't delete comments unless they are offensive. You bring up a good point that doesn't offend me :D
I just chop out that 1.54 minute he played and made a loop and a song :)
@@shanedunne8488 Thank you Shane...huge congrats on what looks like an amazing product and unique. I'll definitely be purchasing.
This is insane I will go insane if I don’t get this!
love the passion
Congrats! I just bought it. I am looking forward to playing with this later today.
It will ABSOLUTELY be during the intro price or we'll extend the length of time of the intro price!
This is a great plugin!!!!
Questions.
@@PlugInGuruVideo ok thanks. sold :)
What have you done!!! :)
Good Idea but I think the "Patcher" included with Image Line FL does the same and more...
... change my mind
PlugInGuru Yea Patcher has a pretty steep learning curve with no Presets, and creating your own takes time too.
Thank you !
Hi John ! What spec laptop Mac are you looking at ? I have a 2011 Mbp 2.8 - 8gb ram ! Will this be an issue ? Thanks
Wow!!
Oh can you make this for iOS on iPad........Pl--eeeeeese
+++ Apematrix is pretty nice but Unify on iPad would definitely be a game changer AU host.
I'm not sure I understand this. How do you use this with your DAW like my Cubase? Can I play say all my Omnisphere patches from within this thing?
You simply load the Unify VST onto a track as you would any other VST and then start using Unify. Within that instance of Unify you can then load other VSTs like Omnisphere to play any patches that aren’t part of the Unify Factory Library.
@@PantaFlux Thank you for explaining. I hope we get to see this demonstrated in a video and more of what we can load in Unify.
I bought my copy of Unify this morning
And I sincerely thank you for your support.
Do you expect catalina to be implemented before the cutoff date of Feb 15? Looks way cool...
We'll be compatible before then (I say with both fingers crossed!)
@@PlugInGuruVideo I have most of your libraries so if its going to be catalina"d at some point in the future that's good enough for me. Amazing accomplishment.. on your part
@@tjmpiano - We are NOW Catalina compatible!
Just came across this, damn amaaazinnng....
Hey John,
Cool channel!
Instant buy! Will torture you later with requests :D
Will you be showing at NAMM? I'd love to come by, do a video for my channel, etc.
ZT Audio - YES ! Come by the Ilio booth and say hi to us!
John, any idea what the final price will be once the intro-offer runs out? Seems like a very cool product btw, congrats!
$79
@@JaminZ_1 Cool, thx!
Are patches another word for presets or fx chain presets? And how is this different from a daw like reaper? Or is this a daw?
Brilliant !!!
Hey hi there:
Is it possible to use all the effects of the instrument Falcon UVI on an another 3rd party instrument? Falcon Doesn't any inputs, only samples but uses all the effects of UVI
Hi Oliver, Unify is not able to connect to the effects of a plug in - even if it has inputs at this time. Nice idea but if a plug-in doesn't have audio inputs then no plug in will be able to overcome that limitation.
"Are you ready? I don't think you're ready...."
Dear John, my wallet officially hates you.
PlugInGuru Thx a lot. That is what I expected. Have a great success with Your product!
Short answer: YES.
Cheers.
Any plans to make a manual available??
Of course! It's online and you're welcome to read thru it: pluginguru.net/unify/
