If I am correct on my NYC subway history, if you follow the Bushwick branch to its western stub end at Bushwick and Montrose Avenues, that was how the BMT was able to get subway cars into the western end of the 14th Street line before the eastern section was completed to connect it to the Canarsie line at Broadway Junction. A temporary ramp was built to send the cars onto the newly constructed tracks that were ready to begin revenue service.
There are still an active track for freight trains on Morgan Avenue near Newtown Creek in Brooklyn New York. Can you please do a video about it? We actually got stuck when a Locomotive was pulling ten freight cars across Morgan Avenue. There's a firehouse on Morgan Avenue which is Engine Company 237. You can stop by their quarters and ask them about the 1965 LUMBER YARD FIRE. It was a great BIG CONFLAGRATION with flames shooting over two HUNDRED feet high. Actually it was the FDNY'S SUPER PUMPER'S first fire, which didn't belong to the fire DEPARTMENT yet. It was going through a shakedown trial on Welfare ISLAND which was the fire Department's training school.
Awesome. I run up and down Metropolitan Avenue a lot but haven't caught any movements. One of these days - but this excellent video will suffice for now. I was a kid living near the Fresh Pond yard (late 50's early 60's). Man that was a busy place - back in the day. Thanks.
Thanks - I like this video - with it's freight train in an urban setting. Bit it would be nice if the railroad could grade separate like the New York Central did in Manhattan.
Are there any route maps for NYAR? I see the tracks all over Ridgewood, Bushwick and East New York. I've always wondered where they intersect and branch off to all the areas this rail line covers
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Great question ,,,,,,,,,,,,,the original main line went from outside of sunnyside yard west to buschwick terminal,,,,,,,,For industry rail engineers somehow knew branch off lines were welcome revenue........So much of great history yet to be found,,,,,,,,,the dead cant speak...............
Instead of strictly using for freight, why can't NYAR create a passenger line that utilizes the Bay Ridge branch that runs from Fresh Pond all the way thru Bay Ridge? Or the Lower Montauk Branch that used to service the LIRR? I am sick and tired of looking at the poorly-maintained and dirty NYC subway cars. These diesel trains look so much more interesting and would probably run at a more efficient speed.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,tracks are very old,,,,plus,,,,,there are no STATIONS................it is beyond money to create a dream...road..........................
I just assumed that the NY&A would have enough engines since there aren't as many freight customers as in the 1960's when the LIRR was used. ie central branch in Lindenhurst.
many railroads lease engines long term, too. Indiana Rail Road leases all of their SD90MACs from CIT and it's not uncommon to see one of the blue CIT lettered locomotives on an Indiana Rail Road train. Sometimes they just need a lease engine for short term while some of their own engines are in maintenance and sometimes they need them long term if they have an increase in traffic and not enough power to haul it.
Why are those conductors walking and flagging the crossings while going short nose forward with working lights and bells on the crossing ? Very unnecessary and a waste of time just do your whistle sequence and proceed with caution sheesh haha
OG Ragan thank you! So now a motorist sees either the engine coming, or the crossing lights, and stops. They now have to wait for a less than enthusiastic engine to pull up, stop, the conductor to walk up to the crossing, stop, the train to pull up, stop, then leave. Until the conductor reaches the crossing, running the crossing is fair game, thereby defeating the entire point of the warning.
@@mattheww2797 yeah for a MALFUNCTIONING or OOS crossing it is hell even while riding the end of a shove thru a lighted/gated crossing you dont stop you convey the condition of the crossing to the hogger as you uproach and as you fully occupy the crossing .....
How great to see freight train movements on NYC streets !

pretty sure that was actually the south Brooklyn railway, that's how the BMT got there geometry cars and work trains.
Stopped at a bakery yes

You know your in a industrial area when a freight train goes through a building to deliver freight, thanks for great video!!!
I totally agree, it was cool to see, thank you for watching!
This is amazing, I thought that train track was going to be torn down. I'm glad it wasn't.
0:47 Southern Railroad boxcar! Never thought i’d see one. Hasn’t been repainted since 1982.
Excellent work! Real old school urban railroad action.

Would be nice to see those locomotives way out east by the Medford station.
NYAR RS70/71. Daily freight. 70 at around 11 - 1 and the 71 around 2:30 - 3:30

James Stark thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video!! You’re bound to stumble upon them sometime, seems to be mornings!
Great work. Thanks for posting! Business has really grown on that line.
rb810810 thank you! It seems like they do a good amount of business, trash isn’t going anywhere!
4:42 love those crossing bells.
As urban as urban railroading gets!🔥🔥🔥
Yeah man, it was a whole different experience lol.
Those locos are really nice. Thank you for your work
ocsrc they really are! Glad you enjoyed.

Specific in relation to Pacific with the great divid @mississippi river the specific 1 is eastern seaboard.
Nice video in a very urban environment, looks a little rough at the crossing area for running trains. thanks for posting.
gopher1471 indeed it is, a lotta tight running in a very urban setting for sure, glad you enjoyed!

Great Video!!!!
Raillashup Productions thanks bud!
Since WHEN were there these types of rail lines? I only knew of the bay ridge branch but holy hell

Train Nutjob Videos! Gotta love that!
Ny and atlantic has beautiful paint schemes compared to Long island passenger blue and yellow. I liked when LIRR was orange and grey

Oh, goodie!!!! NYAR #300 is a "Clean Emissions Locomotive". My mind is at ease.
How often do they come through
Manhattan beer and waste management...hmmm
😂😂😂😂
this is near the mta fresh pond bus depot
Hey! I was wondering how you knew this train was coming and I really want to see this train, is there a schedule for it?
I didn't know that all this railroad action was going on in New York suburbs.
This is within the city itself, though NYA runs out to the suburban counties of Nassau & Suffolk, too.
Hello, i am a railfan and would like to go to this place, what is the adress?
Badass!
Why do cut scenes?
Why not just have the entire train leaving with the trash boxes??🤔🤔🤔
Shawn Perry we were trying to chase and knew we wouldn’t make it otherwise.

A passenger line utilizing the tracks from the Bronx to Bay Ridge has been discussed for years called Triboro X.

Why is titled NY&A when a CIT is front engine?
joe r NYAR is the railroad, they are just leasing the CIT Geep.
But, doesn't the NY&A have many new engines (ecofriendly ones) from about 2-3 years ago?
I know. Why are they leasing an engine if they have their own?
I just assumed that the NY&A would have enough engines since there aren't as many freight customers as in the 1960's when the LIRR was used. ie central branch in Lindenhurst.

They should use a red flag.
Metro & Morgan aves
3:20: I've never seen a railroad crossing setup like that before. Cantilevers with just crossbucks? Seems like a waste of resources.

Its required under federal law
