- I absolutely LOVE the Stardew Valley soundtrack but one track in particular just hits the hardest ...
The Wind Can Be Still floored me the first time I heard it. At the end of the video I play my arrangement.

guitar!
Dude I absolutely love the idea of putting everything in context and sharing the “why” behind the music before actually covering it. Super engaging and fun to watch, Sam. Totally love this video.
I came down here literally to say this. This was a treat, and I'm getting a little emotional, lol
Good luck with the Hollow Knight guitar project! Love your arrangements, I learned the Dirtmouth one myself
@@joekerins9772 Thanks, Joe! I love to hear that, man. You know, I’m only here because of dudes like Sam who’ve inspired and paved the way for other VGM guitarist in our niche.
@@AarekMG I hear ya, man. It’s always a great day when we get a new Sam video!
I agree. I play guitar serviceably but understand very little about the "construction" aspect of music. Watching guitar tubers took me from a 4 chord strummer to now I'm finger picking and writing my own music
The story telling made the arrangement even more moving 😇
I felt the exact same way. The moment I got to winter for the first time, and I heard that soundtrack, my jaw dropped to the floor. It's rare when you have a song that can make you feel nostalgic despite never having heard it before.
I’m back home because a family death, and today it started snowing. I was lying in my bed watching this and when you started playing, tears just ran down my face. Thank you so much for this beautiful rendition, really hit me in the heart.
What an amazing cover. Stardew is one my favorite game of all time. No stress, only just living and take pleasure to live as fast as season goes.
Amazing
The Wind Can Be Still is an absolute all timer. As some dude on UA-cam pointed out, though, it's the little major flip just for a moment at the end that makes it absolutely magical. That person was the most right any human has ever been,
The addition of your story and feelings from the music is a nice primer. Great choice from the soundtrack, and beautifully done.
I just want to stop you right there to say that I completely agree
Saw the title and immediately knew it was going to be The Wind Can Be Still ❤
Hearing musicians talk about WHY they play something and what they feel when playing is. Thanks for sharing this, beautiful video and concept.
Especially when it's the SV OST. I listen to it while working my mum's horse meadows, now I love working there.
This is probably my favorite song of the whole soundtrack so when you announced it was so fricking hype
This video format clearly takes a lot more effort but it's EXACTLY the kind of stuff I'd love to hear from you! Looking forward to more of the same!
I started playing Stardew Valley on November 30th, 2023. I almost didn't want to buy it, because it cost $16.99 and I only had about $17.50 left. I decided "Screw it, there's nothing else I can afford that's worth it anyway" and bought it. Let me tell you, that was the best $17 I've ever spent. Within 2 days, it had already climbed into my top 5 games of all time, and within 4, my top 3. Now, It's sitting at a comfortable 2nd place, only topped by old Minecraft. One of the best games I've ever played, for less than $20
I live in Wisconsin and I totally agree with you, Sam. That first warm sunny day when the snow starts to melt and you just see water glistening everywhere :) Its one of the best smells ever too!
Stardew Valley was an absolutely amazing experience. The only thing that I'd add to the game is a song for each of the NPCs. Each one of the bachelors and bachelorettes having their own leitmotiv would give them a lot of personality... But I mean, the entire game was made by ONE guy, which seems impossible and it's honestly hard to believe.
This video was a treat. I love these kinds of music analysis / essay videos. And wonderful performance at the end. Thank you Sam.
You have made me have a new perpective of the music of this game , I knew it was really good but I didnt thought about the meaning of the songs in the seasons. Thank you, great video and keep making videos like this.
It feels good to hear that someone else felt like me about this music.
I wrote my final college paper about Stardew Valley and how important to gaming I found it to be and how much I feel like anyone can truly enjoy the game no matter your experience level in gaming. I also got to glam about it. ❤️ great work as always, Sam!
6:28 this part made me tear up, so much nostalgia.. ❤
Wild Horseradish Jam is one of my favorite songs of all time.
Man, i just loved this video so much. I think exactly as you! The winter song have such a beautiful feeling. It's between a melancholic, lonely feeling, with a powerful freshness. You can feel the cold breeze passing through your face. The timbre and soundscape are so magical. Feels icy and makes me feel lonely a bit :(
Beautiful! I wish more people talked about Stardew Valley's music. As you say, the music is perfect for the game and what it represents. And when you perform your rendition, one can really feel the emotion.
Ok.... this... is a really appreciated approach. I've been following you for a few years, bar youtube failing to serve me new Vids, but I've never seen you do one like this before. The Zelda spread did it in spirit by its choice of songs... but I can only imagine if you introduced us to your Zelda choices like this!
That is so clean and rad and beautiful bro, loving the in depth commentary
Stardew has a special place in my life. Playing it for a few years now and since I'm really music-sensitive, the music is part of the experience and makes it special to me.
P.S: Beautifully played by you.
I quite enjoyed this thoughtful, analytical format. I hope you can do these kinds of videos more often!
I love this tune, it brings a cozy vibe that a winter season asks for, but personally the submarine theme and the night market are my absolute favorites.
i couldn't agree more with your choice, the wind can be still is, to me, THE seasonal song of the game. your rendition of it was incredible!
Petition for you to always start videos with this kind of contextualization. Contextualization is rad af bro.
Man, I literally cried. I played Stardew Valley in 2016 (the year it was released), and I played it again during quarantine. I've always loved "The Wind Can Be Still" and hearing its cover took me back 7 years ago when things were simple in my life. Thank you.
Everything in this is just so well stated. I agree that all the music is fantastic, and the season tracks all nail exactly what they set out to accomplish, but something about the winter theme just tugs at my emotional core. It combines the feeling of winter sadness and darkness, with the idea that this is not a planting season, and not a growing season. It's a season to spend time with friends, and maybe do some reorienting of your life, but the plants are all gone and your worries are few. It's a season of maintenance and just getting by, and the music captures that so clearly, it's amazing.
Love those harmonics
Love this video, you should do more videos reacting to soundtracks and playing some of the pieces, just hearing the part of the Spring song on the classical guitar gave me that comfy feeling of playing Stardew for the first time again
You really made me feel like if I was listening to it for the first time
Bro as soon as you hit that first harmonic I started crying, you inspire me so much
Absolutely love that you're playing Stardew tunes! This is one of my favorites in the game too. Would love more analysis videos (and a full transcription of "Spring, It's a Big World Outside" lol)
I love your introduction to the video with you talking about SDV and why you got into it, why it pulled you in the way it did. I also loved you talking about the different pieces and what you thought of them and why they fit their moments. I completely agree on your choice of song at the end, it is the best song in the game. I think it's the one that sticks with players the most.
There are many good covers of the song, I think yours is the best one I've heard so far because it is simple and not overly busy. Sometimes covers of SDV songs can get out of hand because the person doing it adds too much texture or frills and it can distract from the core melody of the piece (which in turn makes it harder to appreciate the little nuances ConcernedApe put in.) Yours is nice because its not trying to imitate the original piece, you're just taking it and keeping everything important. SDV is beautiful because it is simple without being utilitarian and you captured that.
I will link another cover of the song here, I'll break the link so no one gets spoiled for the end of the video by accident: www.youtube.com/ watch?v=g7PvNC5fnyg I hope you enjoy it!
I am subbing to your channel now, this was a wonderful video, thank you for making it.
Sam, what an amazing artist you are. I agree with you about this fantastic, mind-blowing soundtrack. The game itself can seem quite simple but you can see when there's something more behind all of this. You can feel the love and the spirit that has been put into this game and is absolutely lovely, especially the music. At the end of this video, when you started to play Winter (The Wind Can Be Still) I had a tear of Joy because you have the ability to take pieces of music like this to another level with your guitar, getting right into the emotions and suddenly becomes a religious experience or something like that.
HOLY SMOKES that was an incredible performance, completely captures the finer details like the subtle chromatic note at 9.32
Ah I can relate to this! I fell into Harvest Moon back on the 64 in the same way, for weeks on end! Great playing as always Sam
Your insights at the beginning of the video were a fantastic addition! You should keep doing these. I would love to learn more about your thoughts on other music before playing :)
More of this format please
Never played this game, but hearing you talk about it, the change of seasons, then playing your favorite tune, really moved me. thank you for sharing 🙏🏼
Stardew Valley is in my Top 3 favorite games and one of the few that I've clocked over 100 hrs in. If you want to find the perfect escapist experience, I cannot recommend it enough. It's a beautifully rich game with lots of heart.
Great video. One of the other winter songs, Ancient, is my favorite.
I was thinking about the seasonal song changes when you were talking in the intro. I absolutely agree. Summer is my favorite!
My favourite song is Dance of the moonlight jellies you hear at the end of summer.
You should play through Golden Sun. The soundtrack on that series, to this day, still makes me feel emotionally.
Incredible stuff. This made me feel totally nostalgic. I had a couple of sessions of "nothing but Stardew" months a few years back. That game is like a warm, cozy blanket.
I have alot of fond memories playing this game I didn't know how special this particular song was until you played it at 6:25, I teared up a little definitely need to learn this absolutely gorgeous arrangement. Please continue doing the story telling in your future arrangements.
It's so wholesome to see you so genuinely enthusiastic and captivated by music from Stardew Valley. Shovel Knight has been my favorite game for 5 years now, not just because I love 2d platformers, but large in part due to that ever present and up in your face soundtrack.
I really love these style of video game music review videos, especially seeing you breakdown the melody bits of notbale songs on geetar.
Much love Sam.
My dude!! I LOVE this format. A mini review with a music focus, that then transitions into you playing your favorite tunes from the game. I got chills when you played the songs! Keep it up, Sam
Love it! Maybe talk to the dev and do a cover Album?
Would insta-buy!
Loving this concept, good shit Sam
Such a great vid, I'd say your choice is my no. 2, my first being Horseradish Jam. I wish the "jam" part didn't fade out and shredded for 5 extra minutes lol
I really liked the format, and your cover. Probably listened to it a good ten times at this point.
I would like to get more context for the other songs, however I dislike the that I always have to skip the first part.
Maybe make a seperate companion video? Best if both worlds.
If you revisit the music in this game I really would like to hear you play the whole song from the spring month. My personal favorite because of the nostalgia it brings and you blue balled me playing just the first little bit!
i loved this new style of video from you! I would definitely enjoy more soundtrack analysis style videos from you in the future :)
Listening to some of the Stardew soundtrack again just now got me feeling nostaglic for the early 2021 lockdown period which was the first time I really got into playing Stardew with a group of my friends at the time and I definitely miss those days in a way, might have to revisit the game myself sometime in the future if I want to play something nice and laid back again.
omg yes! I was hooked to this song when I heard it. Can't get it out of my head
I love the approach to this so much man, when I arrange certain songs it’ll be for reasons like these where it makes me decide to do so
Sam, I've been watching your videos for a few years now it seems and I've gotta say this is one of my favorites so far. I really enjoy the exposition in the beginning. Thanks for keeping up the good work!
Man, there is no other channel like yours. Thank you for sharing your experience and your beautiful music with us, I know soon the time will come for me to start on Stardew. All the best, from the other side of the Atlantic.
Man, video game music can be fascinating. It would be great seeing you perform live a soundtrack of your choice with this type of discussion around it. Keep up with this format!
This was an amazing video! Adding context and meaning to the song before you play it is REALLY engaging. Thanks for this!
You should do more of these types of videos for the songs
I checked your channel just yesterday to see if you had posted lately, I must have sensed one incoming!
Thank you so much Sam for this beautiful rendition. Loved hearing your thoughts and hope you'll be sharing more in the future as well.
The Monday morning therapy I didn't know I needed.
I do love that winter song, but what I love 100x more is watching _you_ love it. Thank you so much for sharing your delight in a world where it's stylish to look disinterested. ❤
Also? I live on the central plains of Montana, so I know winter.
And after listening to you play this 4 times now - yes. This is the sorrow, the death of everything, the brutal cold, the stillness that comes with heavy snow, the flare of sunlight on ice, the flush of pheasants from the high grass, the promise of spring, the ache of longing for it. Phenomenal. ☺️
Been following you for many years, this was a great video. I wouldn't expect it from you every time, because I'm sure its a lot more work, but I loved hearing why you loved the song so much. Thanks for everything Sam!
Love the format and the analysis before the cover. Nicely done my dude!
Thanks for this video. Very good. Except for “the winter can be still” around 7:25.
Absolutely agree this is the best song from Stardew! That part where the bass first kicks in at 8:38 gives me chills everytime, amazing rendition!
I thoroughly enjoyed your commentary and cover! The video's style reminded me of how Paola Hermosin (another great guitar channel) covers music. It makes the cover so much more personal and meaningful. Also, your guitar skills are on point and have inspired me to practice more today ha
Instant click, I love this game and this music! Glad you got hooked to Stardew as well!
Class as always Sam. Hope you're enjoying spring 🌱
Great video, dude! Love this type of content & beautiful cover too. Stardew valley is such a special game. Everything about it is incredible, I could sit for hours on end just listening to the music & picking crops 😝
Are you excited for haunted chocolatier? 🍫
It was nice to hear you talk about a game experience. You should do this more often.
That was an incredible cover!! Also, do you mind sharing where I might be able to find your cat sweater? It’s so good!!
Glad you enjoyed Stardew! Love the cover and your musical analysis for the seasonal music!
You made me want to go back to the old valley, it was such a good trip, so grateful this game exists
Of course your story is great, but the cover is absolutely incredible
More Stardew covers please btw
Kind of sound like a song that could be in Minecraft, love it dude
Nice arrangement. I noticed that your index finger tends to scratch the string when it plays on the 4th or 5th string. Now you can't unhear it either! Haha
Love this format, I hope you stick with it.
Maybe I should checkout this game
You’re the fucking man. Watched til the end. Bravo. 🎉
I bought Stardew and the soundtrack on steam because of your passion for it lol
I love "Ravens Decent"
That is the most "fall" song to me.
Just saying that I would buy a Sam Griffin Stardew Valley album
Dat sweater tho!! Awesome
more of this pls sir good content
My fave Stardew song as well.
Stardew is an amazing experience.
Thank you Sam! Lovely rendition. Hit me right in the feels. Also huge fan of Raven's Descent! You just go on ahead and do the whole OST eh?
Less talkin' more rockin' Gives me tabs!
Thats very Joja mart looking sweater you got there
Excellent video. *chef kiss*
Yea. This one is definitely one of the best. Drips with passion.
That’s true. My kids have not gone back to Animal Crossing as soon as they discovered Stardew Valley. It’s not my kind of game but the music is phenomenal.
GOD I WAS HOPING IT WOULD BE THIS SONG YESSSSS THIS ONE IS SO BEAUTIFUL
I really like to hear you think what you think of the games and its soundtracks
