- The Dixie Chicks, comprised of lead singer Natalie Maines and sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer, are one of the biggest female music acts of all time, with tens of millions of records sold, and 13 Grammy Awards. They talk with correspondent Tracy Smith about the Iraq War controversy that led to boycotts and blacklists of their music over comments made about President George W. Bush, and how failed relationships became a source of inspiration for their upcoming album, "Gaslighter," their first studio album together since 2006's Grammy-winning smash "Taking the Long Way."

What they said back then was such a mild thing compared to what people say today.
Including what the president says...
And they weren't wrong either.
I said the same thing. But, then again Dixie Chicks supporters have continued to support them throughout these years. 🤷🏻♀️
It’s what Trump said throughout his whole campaign in 2016! You have to believe that many of the people that vilified the Chicks voted for the guy saying the same thing about the Iraq war. And I’m not calling them hypocrites, it’s just that with the passage of time, we all came around to the Chicks opinion of the war and the lies that got us into it.
I DO think Nashville owes them an apology however
So True!
To those people throwing away the CDs; You know the Dixie Chicks get to keep the money, right?
James Picklehead I’m dead 😂😂😂😂😂

stupid it ended their concerts and the people got their money back that way, they did not get radio air play. so the people got their money and and more!
@@samwilson6033 That's petty, Sam.
Their version of The Star Spangled Banner is amazing.
They walked the talk and that's more than you can say about most bands and most people. Gotta love the Dixie Chicks.
William Gray. YES!
the talk destroyed their concerts and air play
@@samwilson6033 destroyed is the wrong word to use, because after they were "destroyed" they became the only musical act to hit #1 with NO airplay, so the attempt to "destroy" them didnt work at all. LOL
Absolutely! People only realise now just how right they were. They've actually gained new fans because of it.
@Jason Crosby Women are allowed to talk you freak. What bush done was just his male ego talking louder is all.
Their cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" is one of the best remakes of a song of of all time. And I love the original.
L D I don’t know. Whitney Houston doing I Will Always Love You is up there too.
Raych Weinberg Agreed. I didn’t grow up listening to the original so it doesn’t readily come to mind as a remake. Whitney sang so effortlessly. A national treasure.
I definitely agree, i love that song !!
It never gets old.
Well take a listen to Foxes and Fossils version of the same song. They’re a Cover band playing in a parking lot. You’ll be blown away and also love the DC version as well.

And they kept some old ones as well. My 2 cents, though, is they’re the perfect example of most fans want to hear the music, not the politics.
But THOSE "fans" don't wanna hear either the politicians talk OR the actors/musicians.....so who is left?? 🤔
not nearly as many. check their chart history. after 2003, their sales plummeted for being the dipshits that they are

@@troykelso So true but people forget that. They want the freedom without the consequence or the comments of those who disagree. We all exercise the right and take our chances. But how they still do not get that doing that on foreign land so soon after 9/11 was horrible. No way to spin that.
@@troykelso Just because there can be social consequences to stating your opinion doesn’t make that reaction rational, right, or valid. And the consequences in this case were outrageous and exaggerated. They didn’t deserve it and I’m glad they stood their ground.

It was truly unfortunate that the Dixie Chicks took a terrible hit for expressing their right to disagree with a former President's handling of America's involvement in the longest pointlessly protracted war. Fact is the ladies were absolutely right then and today. Welcome back ladies.
It was a pointless protracted war , but don’t forget about Vietnam which was actually worse than Iraq,if you can get worse.

I still have my CDs and always stood behind the Chicks. We have the right to speak our minds and that's what we loved about them so I always found it strange how people were so angry over Americans using their right of free speech. Welcome back, ladies ( perfect post since today is International Women's Day too! ). While speaking one's mind is a deeply held American value, most American's forget that politics and music have been side by side since the Civil War. It doesn't matter if it's the Dixie Chicks or Frank Zappa or Marvin Gaye or Bob Dylan: If artists tell audiences the " emperor still doesn't have any clothes, " no matter the year or the timing, the result is that those artists do not have to apologize for it.
David McCain but David, then the artist pays the price if customers do not appreciate the politics. Nobody disputed Maines’ right to say what she did, but she then whined at her treatment. Her sisters paid a big price for her big mouth. Sometimes when you play the victim it doesnt work.

I'm so glad they're back!!!
I'd never paid much attention until they spoke out. Then I listened to what they had said, and I was an instant fan.
I love strong principled people.
Terry Allen in defending the Memphis 3 murders? Yeah right freak.
The Dixie Chics are true rockstars. Stand your ground ladies and always stay true to yourself.
Absolutely amazing musicians
I am sooo happy the Chicks are coming back. Their music, their talent, best sound bar none!! Welcome back !!!!!!!!
They did kind of alienate their core audience. Who do they think mostly listens to country music?
I do, I listen to country music. The Dixie Chicks did NOT alienate me. IN FACT, my local country station alienated me when they quit playing the Dixie Chicks. My local radio station LOST MY business for censoring the Dixie Chicks. AND, Natalie was/IS right.
NOLA GospelTracts right?
