    I have to admit that I didn't listen to the Dixie Chicks *before* the controversial statement by Natalie Maines made about then President Bush. I started listening to them *afterwards.* I've always admired anyone willing to express his/her beliefs. Even if they lose some fans, they can be assured that they've also gained some fans. :)

      they where just trying to please a foreign audience

    Bush ended up making a terrible mistake. I did, I do & I will always Love the Dixie Chicks...

    • @pdoylemi
      @pdoylemi 7 років тому +4

      Except that I am not sure it was a mistake. More than a year before the invasion I bet two of my friends that Bush was going to invade Iraq. I did so because I knew his connections to the oil industry, and I knew than sanctions were driving up oil prices (bad for him politically) and possibly even Saddam's attempt on his dad's life were all out there. When he made Iraq a huge focus after 9/11, when there was no reason to think they were involved, or were even very interested in supporting fundamentalist terrorists, it was clear what his intent was to me. And later released documents indicate that I was probably right.
      I suppose it could be called a mistake, because I suspect he expected a better outcome, but that's about all.

  • @AmyEdwards1986

    They didn't deserve that bashing. Even if people were disagreeing with them, there is something called free speech and it has been so much denied at that time. I remember that when even if you had a inch of criticism about the war in Iraq, you were automatically labeled as a traitor. Personally I applaud them for standing for their rights. And I agree with them too.

    Dumb question Diane..they are on stage playing music and singing, I am sure they weren't thinking about what she said ...while they are performing a concert. What was really SAD was grown adults teaching their children to hate, and bring their kids to rallies and record smashing/burning events. Over what is a constitutional right - the freedom of speech. SAD

    I was in high school when this happened. I was a kid when his father was president and if my memory serves me right his brother was governer of Florida when he was president. I agree with the Dixie chicks and thought everyone who destroyed their music and radio station who stopped playing then were being stupid about the situation. I though all the Bush's sucked while in office and still think that. It's funny if you think about it they get redicule over what they say but my idol pink writes a song about it and it's no big deal. I can't wait for their tour.

    Entertainers remain entertainers as long as they are considered "entertaining". The DC"s ceased to be "entertaining" for millions. Despite what the DC's would have you believe, a tailspin reduction in profits for them did not a national tragedy make. Their continued presence as entertainers was never a "right", nor was it an obligation of anyone to remain a fan. Their insistence that this made them "victims" was an absurdity only the lowest of mentalites agreed with. Gone, and for good reason.

      ***** They still are, and always will be, followed by the Destiny's Child...No artists nowadays will top the great music then...Adele was the only one who sold 30 million copies of her album '21' so far. Not even Taylor Swift can sell a diamond album (10 million + copies).....Why? Today's music is not as good as it is then, because if it is, then people would buy them.....

      Destroyed? Come on!!! They won six Grammy awards in 2007, including Album, record, and song of the year, because of the "Bush Incident", and it even boosted their sales. Whatever the reason that they had to retire does not matter because they were already the most awarded female group in the music history, they were the best selling female group of all time, etc.....In short, they have already reached the pinnacle of their career. That is the very reason why they are one of the most missed artists in the world.......

      ***** Coming back or not, they are already legends....No other female group will break their records because today's music is crap that's why they don't sell well like music did before...You're a Dixie Chicks hater, it's obvious because you tend to disregard their accolades....

      +Don Finmo You do not pay much attention before you comment. Listen again to the video. Diane said exactly what you said she did not say. She said the biggest selling female "GROUP" in the nation. At 40 second into video.

    they should not have mixed politics with music. they are loved for their entertainment, no one wants to know thier politics.

    This is why entertainers have publicists to filter their thoughts to the public and why entertainers should be more diplomatic when they open their mouths or be prepared for the negative backlash. It is a shame because I was a big Dixie Chicks fan but I didn't want my money supporting them after they shamed the US to the rest of the world. They would have been much better off expressing themselves in a song that made people from all political persuasions think.
    What gets me are the people who agree with Natalie Maines' views but think it is horrible that fans boycotted them yet those same hypocrites support doing the exact same thing to businesses that anger them.
