After 25 years they're still addressing politics and facing adversity on their new album, Gaslighter. Tom Power caught up with The Chicks to talk about their controversial past and how it's helped build their legacy. cbc.ca/1.5655884

I initially opened this interview only because it featured The Chicks. However, as the interview went on, I was more and more engaged. So well done. It is part interview and part conversation. The interviewer asks questions without expecting a stock answer. He gets what the artists offer. This is a band that I feel leads instead of follows. I probably view this through the lens of confirmation bias - I want to believe the best about The Chicks. But as I watch what these women do, I realize, it doesn't matter if I or anyone else supports their work or not; they will continue to change the world for the better. God bless them.

Their albums used to sound like they were made by actual people playing and singing. Sadly, the new album sounds like pretty much all the other studio-crafted rubbish that's out today. Between the production and the song quality, it could be a Taylor Swift album. Even Natalie's singing has lost its individuality.

Really glad that the girls reached out to The 'og' Chicks, from here in NZ. I knew them to be big down South Hem from the 60's i think. They were a sister duo & i'm more familiar with one of their sons' rock band(s), but did think of them when The 'new' Chicks changed their name. But that was gracious, no matter if it had connotations of just not wanting to end up like the Lady A debacle (i'm defo on the side of the og Lady A woman fyi) OR not, it was the decent thing to do, & us kiwi's appreciate respect over a needless drama. The (now elder) kiwi Chicks were awesome in their reply & i hope they do all meet one day. They deserve some good VIP seats & a meet-n-greet methinks :-) & i hope we ALL get to see The Chicks in NZ in the future. LOVE Gaslighter album :-)

I disagree in changing the name due to offending people or people not knowing the real meaning of something. If people are offended by something oh well. Dixie is not a bad word. I will always use it. People need to toughen up. Like the old saying goes. The constitution doesnt care about your feelings. If it did we wouldn't be a country. The South is the greatest part of the united States. Very nice folks there and great food and music.

@@terrysgamingzone1390 agreed! There’s so much virtual signaling going on anymore I’m sick of it. Big turn off. Wondering if people really were offended b /c of Dixie... our more offended for their hate of their own country. They didn’t care about how i felt about that, but I’m supposed to feel bad over Dixie? I love their “old” music... but their “being kind “ to their own country was offputting.

I love these girls, yet it's so disappointing they pussied out and dropped Dixie from their name to appease the SJW's fear-mongering and negative spin on their band name, rather than focusing on the positive example and image they have garnered through hard work and good music that comes from Southern ladies. It's too bad they wimped out. It really downgrades the bravery they've shown in other ways being true to their convictions about other things. It's never positive to sell out and give in and capitulate to bogus negative pressures that have no merit. IN ALL social political issues, you have to look seriously at intent. There was never and would never be intentional offense or hurt intended in using the name The Dixie Chicks. They shouldn't have pussied out. They capitulated. How disappointing.

That's a whole different issue. In any genre other than classical, females don't tend to be obsessed and non-social enough to become player-gods.
