  • Opposites attract. There isn’t a more appropriate statement to describe the unlikely yet formidable climbing partnership that is Nick Bullock and Tim Neill. They met on the mountains of Scotland in winter, and despite walking their own paths in the mountaineering world they are both drawn inexorably back there each winter. The fickle conditions that define Scottish winter climbing frequently lead to frustration, but the prospect of discovering an obscure gem presents an irresistible allure to them both. www.mountain-eq...

Happy days. I can still feel my wet Scottish mitts, 20 years later. Good effort.

From an old winter climber I loved it and the enthusiasm and fun shown made it a magic watch. Never grow up and stay safe and have fun. What a grand film and a invite to Scotland for winter fun!

Loved this film at KMF! Bloody sprinted from K Village to make sure I could see it :) perfect length, there were a few films this year I felt could have been half the length, but this was just right and it's awesome all the way through.

Great style! Beautiful landscape. I thought you could raise the shadows on the interview subjects a bit. Also, I wondered what songs were used in the film? Again, well done.

i am 6ft 4 and Tim Neill is a tall bloke too, i wonder if he finds it hard to get jackets/tops with the arms long enough without having to get a something with a huge waist?

I'm tall and it's a nightmare for most brands coming up short with mountain equipment being the exception to the rule most of their gear fits me great

Cold house collective i understand what you were going for but can you please sort the audio levels out when people were speaking i could barely understand it, also when do a a extremely slow delicate pitch i would be good not to have music blaring, the mood doesn't have to be constant through the entire video it can have it's highs and lows.

    • @adambarlow7787

seriously. I can't hear a word these guys are saying with the music blaring. If i turn it up the music comes with! haha

Maybe you guys should check your speakers. The volumes was fine and their words came through just fine and audible for me.

Just think: You could have been sport climbing on Kalymnos with chics in bikinis. Instead you chose to climb in Scotland. Scotland: Where the men are men and the sheep are scared. *this video was disliked by 15 sheep.

thats all well and good.. live in the gutter and just go climbing ?? but how do you afford to live that way ??? ive tried and i always have to go back to work within days.... not weeks days!! I don't get enough time to do ben Nevis, these guys are talking hundreds of routes!! !! that takes time weeks .. how are they funding fuel car insurance tax repairs gear ??? food !!! drink!! it's expensive ??
the only risk i see is losing your job and being homeless with no money and starving lol I do mountains but i have to stay local and i literally only have a day 2 at the most each weekend..
i want to know how these guys fund this life style. ive got all the gear just not the time!! to have the time i have to quit my job.!
the only thing i can make out is these guys are sponsored by mountain equipment or they do something with these types of companies which enables them to earn a living and do what they love.. does any one have any info! please dont speculate some one that knows would be best.

Nick Bullock is sponsored by Mountain Equipment and is probably paid in gear and maybe some cash, but probably not a lot. He does a fair bit of writing and most of his income comes from that, but again not a lot. He just manages it well.
Tim Neill works for Plas Y Brenin as a guide, so will get his equipment through that and can spend time up in Scotland for weeks at a time guiding, so its easier.
I get what you're saying and I'm in a similar position. I wouldn't want to give up my job or lifestyle but would love to have more time to climb.

The both get excellent work in London as gigolos. Good hourly work if you can get it and have the tools as demonstrated in this video if you know what I mean and I think you do.

Nick might be drawing a Prison Service pension too by now.
Sell your house, invest any equity wisely, live frugally, have a bit of charisma, make people want to do what you do because it jumps off the screen or page how much commitment you have put in to get there. Nothing easy about any of that which is all the more reason to applaud Nick.
