After a while living keto I found that I didn’t want any carbs. 2 reasons: One- simply lost the taste for sugar/carbs and next was the benefits of living this way was too valuable to walk away from. The most stress free way of eating and living that I’ve ever experienced.
The same with me. I dont like meat, eggs or chicken very much so doing keto is hard for me. I like fish and sea food though. So low carbs + light IF for me is best. My HbA1C is 4.6.
I agree with Dr. Westman when he says you don't have to do all the calculating in order to lose weight. I stopped eating all white foods(high carbs, low nutrients)...potatoes, rice, bananas, breads and pastas. Eat lots of green veg high in potassium and magnesium. I kept a food journal that kept me on track for at least 4 months till I got myself used to eating differently. I have lost 40 lbs in 8 months and have surpassed my goal weight. Off cholesterol and acid reflux meds. Working on getting off blood pressure meds now. I also do Intermittent Fasting every other day. This helps my Ulcerative Colitis. No more cravings for carbs. I feel GREAT! Low Carb is the way to go for people to get started to just lose weight. Keto and autophagy is easier after you lose the weight. Eating more fat...nuts/seeds to help cravings. This has been my experience. Everybody is different.
I came to low carb after years of gut pain and being diagnosed with IBS. Low carb is now a lifestyle for me even though I am not overweight. The benefits of not getting hungry regularly and have a steady blood sugar are too great to give up. I am a much calmer and nicer person to be around and I genuinely nolonger fancy sweet things. I grew some strawberries in my garden and picked them as they ripened- ate a few ....no big deal because I never got cravings for more....I simply enjoyed the taste. Food is nolonger on my mind when I am not actually eating it.....such freedom 👍🙏👍
I did therapeutic keto for year then went to a low carb diet. I lost 35 lbs and 6 in off my waist. My blood pressure went back to normal my A1C is normal and acid reflux is gone. I'm 68 and diabetes runs on both sides of my family and I was pre diabetic when I started. Ice cream cookies and cake ill have a couple of times a year in small amounts. I bake sourdough bread and I'll have a slice or 2 a couple of times a week. I also will have egg pasta a couple of times a month. I try to stay away from starches like the plague. I think my biggest problem was insulin resistance. It's been 2 years now and if I have a piece of cake on my birthday and check my blood sugar a couple hours later I'm in the seventies. So my body is doing what it's supposed to do now and I want to keep it that way. I've been eating 3 eggs A-day for close to 2 years now and my cholesterol has not changed from before I started. At 244 my Cholesterol is considered high by my doctor but I think it's normal for me. The side benefit was that acid reflux that I suffered with for a couple of decades went away in less than 2 weeks After starting keto. I remember about 4 years ago my doctor sent me to a specialist for my acid reflux. My esophagus was being damaged from all the acid. The specialist told me I had to take pills. I said for how long he said for the rest of my life. I haven't had heart burn in 2 years now. Keto changed my life. It'll change yours too, just keep with it.
When I first started low carb 6 years ago, I used Dr. Westman's page 4. I haven't always stuck to it perfectly but honestly it works better for me for losing weight and turning around several health issues than when I get fancy and track carbs/fats/proteins, or when I start testing and worrying all the time, or counting net carbs instead of total carbs. For me, keeping it simple really works. I always come back to Dr. Westman's list.
Yes👍 People just over think and over complicate, when the protocol is not complicated. Too many so called Keto you tubers have flawed information and are always looking for ketofied products!!
Hello fellas....thank you for the info. Therapeutic Ketone diet is imprisonment to the serial dieters. When I cut my carbs and ate protein and low-carb veggies, that was freedom and a £120 weight loss in my late 50s! Love your approach Dr. W!
You're dead right. Low carb can offer a freedom that's completely opposite to the neurosis of calorie accountancy. Unfortunately people love to obsess over numbers so turn low carb/ keto into carb accountancy/ ketone accountancy.
Exactly the approach that i took Stick to low carb with focus on keeping the liver protected and gut happy In 8 months i lost 17 kilos my fatty liver completely gone

The more I delve into this, I'm thinking it is less about Keto or not, but are you Insulin Sensitive or not. For me it took a combination of no sugar, IF, and low grain/starch but by no means giving up grains/starch. The beauty is that you don't need to measure anything. If your body is not holding body fat, you are Insulin Sensitive. I can now eat fast food one every two or three months or so, with no negative effect. I don't even want fruit any more and I often go 4-5 days in a row with no grains/starch.
Sumida Ryogoku I use xylitol, and erythritol on special occasions and holidays for low carb/sugar free desserts. I only use English toffee liquid stevia in my coffee. I just gave up trident and any sweet cravings I used to have are gone. I have heard some people swear by giving up all sweetness, but I haven’t gone there yet. 😀
@@sugarfreedom OMG thank you !! I felt so guilty of using a packet of Stevia as a LOT of people on keto said I should give up any kind of sweetener. The artificial sweetener ( stevia, erythritol, monkfruit ) really do help me to transition from full carb& sugar diet to a keto diet.
@@azabujuban-hito-dake I have taken the sweetener issue one step at a time. Giving up Trident was a big deal, but it taught me how to get through a craving. My motto is, "Eat for yourself." :)
I track in an app. It keeps me accountable and doesn't allow "carb creep" which happens very easily if I don't track. There are a lot of foods that have sneaky carbs that I would miss if I did not track (never knew 1 tsp. cinnamon had 2 carbs!) I have about 20 pounds to get to goal weight and will be interested to see how many carbs I'll be able to eat and keep weight stable.
I simply stick to keto as strict as I feel I can. When I cheat and eat carbs it so infrequent that the small amount is negligible, and likely even a bit beneficial. I condone small portions of white rice or potatoes.
I do use the Atkins app to track my carbs and weight. I like what he is saying because it’s daunting (for me anyway) to try and get all the macros in when I’m not hungry.
I started out with a focus on 'whole food' Keto, avoiding supplements and overly processed foods, a few years ago. After the weight came off, taking under a year, I stopped counting anything. I just go after the low carb whole foods, without shying away from the fats, and eat till I'm full at meals. I will still check my blood levels on occasion, and I seem to naturally stay in ketosis. I'm 52 and my body fat percentage seems to have stabilized at around 14% for the last year or so. I agree with Dr. Westman that constant counting of macros for every meal isn't a good way to live.
while keto did help me lose weight it always give me theses headaches, u say its normal but my doctor say otherwise. he put me into this diet plant which is agoge and i never felt better when on a diet. keto never is the best for everyone
What is your take on : 1. Shirataki rice ( Konjac rice / Miracle rice ). Does it count as carb? 2. Artificial sweetener ( Stevia, Erythritol, Monk Fruit ). How many does it allow ?
Intermitent fasting will kick start the weight loss again. At least 12 to 18 hours a day. If you can do one meal A-day even better. If you're doing keto this shouldn't be a problem
I think that strict Keto may be hard to do with lockdowns, food shortages, and supply disruptions. Eating Low Carb may be the best we can do under those circumstances.
Unfortunately, there have been many reports of people going crazy baking! The main shortages have been flour for all those cakes and cookies and desserts, the justification is that these are "comfort foods". sad

Keto is short for ketogenic and so it is a metabolic state. You could technically be in ketosis on a low carb diet (over 30g carbs) rather than the usual keto recommended carb amount. It depends on your metabolic health and tour activity level, muscle mass, age etc 😊
