      And I mean, you could totally argue that the original intent of the film was to capture the beauty and physics and pleasant things in life, but after reviewing footage they switched focus to something maybe a little deeper. Of course, I've never watched the film, I really dont know how it was presented.

    i think number ten is pretty cool. not only is it about male victims of sexual abuse, but Deaf ones; Deaf people have an exponentially high chance of being taken advantage of, especially at a young age, because they cannot easily explain what happened to them (mostly because most law enforcement agents dont know sign language, and many Deaf people do not know how to read or write due to abuse or neglect). i think giving Deaf male sexual abuse victims a voice and a medium to express what happened to them is wonderful

    I thought The Bridge was an amazing documentary. It was deeply profound in both the extent of pain the victims must have been feeling and the families as well, also, in reality, themselves being victims. Black Fish was a documentary that once seen can never be unseen and one can't go back to the happy place of the fantasy world that Sea World was trying to portray. Both excellant in different ways.

    I'm not saying the director of The Bridge is a great guy, but the crew actually had an agreement that they would try to intervene in every instance they could and called the proper people required to prevent their deaths. The problem is that a lot of these people who jumped looked so normal, just walking along before in a span of one minute they hauled themselves over the railing and into the water. No one could have intervened for them in the first place, they would have died anyway. What he did to the families however is horrific, there's no denying that.

As a species the absolute last thing we need is more radical Christians. If we repeated the Crusades now it would be a disaster. In the first 3 Crusades they fought with swords, and arrows. Now we have nukes, the dark ages would return only worse, and this time there would be no Renaissance to follow.

    How utterly refreshing to not be watching some variation on "Top 10 Celebs Who Hate blah blah blah". Love your work +Deburke321 - very interesting topic for a UA-cam list. *I don't know that any documentary could be "controversial"? A documentary's purpose, as well as to educate, inspire, provoke thought and so on, is **_to document_**. Thus, I don't feel like there's any subject matter that is controversial but I understand events or circumstances around a documentary could be. For example not getting permission from a subject, especially a victim, or purposely misleading authorities, committing something illegal or unlawful, etc.*

    Gimmie Shelter is an explanation for why hiring a freaking biker gang to do your security at a third-rate free concert that absolutely no one spent much time, money and effort on putting together. Imagine if they hired MS13 to do the security of Fyre Fest. Then you'd have an idea of just how terrible the entire situation was.

Was definitely told to me by child sexual abuse sympathizers. What a wild list.

    Number 10 is genuinely interesting not only the title but also the theme! For, it should become a kind of warning not only for V...n along with C..... c..... but also all of us! About number nine, as an Indonesian, I need to confess that both of Joshua Oppenheimer's documentaries (The Act Of Killing and The Look Of Silence) have enriched my knowledge about one of our most miserable histories. By the way, I genuinely love documentaries because "reality" should be published and performed. Truth need to be revealed!!

    Crumb was SO good. I'm glad the film was so honest to show the darkness behind some creativity.

    • @maximillion8442
      @maximillion8442 5 років тому +2

      I found this doc coincidentally while browsing a local rental shop. R Crumb is my great uncle. I grew up hearing stories about him, being told I drew like he did, and having a markedly different view of Genesis than others in my Communion class thanks to reading the copy of Crumb's illustrated interpretation that he'd sent to Grandma. Side note: Her comment? "Oh, he wrote about the Bible! What a good Catholic boy!" 😂😂
      Our whole crew shares seemingly complementary traits of book smarts and flawed social reasoning, creativity and mental irregularity. Even as a member of the family, watching it was an enlightening experience re: how the family deals (or doesn't) w balancing support and independence, compassion and humor, and creativity and practical functionality (poverty playing a MASSIVE role in outcomes for smart, creative, and somewhat unsteady personalities) in their personal and social lives. Even as a fairly observant member of the family, the film succeeded in magnifying those flaws in an uncomfortable, heartbreaking, and revelatory way. Highly recommended.

    The Act of Killing really is scary for us Indonesian. But that "G30S/PKI" movie is just much scarier imo. It was a propaganda made by Soeharto (New Order) to legitimize his regime, by spreading hatred towards communism -> it's related to the genocide that happened in the end of 1960s, as told in The Act of Killing.
    Sadly, even after his regime ended, and the film was confirmed as a huge lie, the hatred and sentiment still exists. How the brainwashing effect on our people minds still remains is what scares me the most.

    I was on a date once at Battery Spencer (closest bunkers to and above the GG bridge) and my GF and I saw a person jump off. It was sad. The worst part was the sound. You could hear them hit the water. It ended the date for sure, we both went home depressed af. I'm torn on suicide, on one hand I understand the unending mental torture, on the other I've seen families destroyed by it...a double edged sword for sure.
