Awesome history of an amazing company, thanks for sharing. FYI, Clarion Corporation owned the McIntosh car audio division. That amazing head unit transport was designed by Mr. Cal Butyon, an amazing engineer that is sadly no longer with us. He also designed the legendary Alpine 7909 unit, as well as the Clarion DRX-9255, which I still use to this day.
I have a copy of this book, even though I own no McIntosh gear. It's a bit of a dry read in parts, but fascinating to see the evolution of this company and their mantra, which has stayed consistent for decades.
I'm an old school Luxman loyalist from the seventies. Side by side Luxman was a better system but something about Mcintosh was magical and appealing . Having sold Audio equipment I've seen all the dirty tricks side by side . We sold Luxman as a certified / authorized dealer and McIntosh as a non certified / authorized dealer , Which means under normal circumstances we would have lost our certification selling McIntosh . You can get away with it when you are the #1 Luxman dealer on the planet . As an install technician I've witnessed the old Variac Clinic battles . Both companies ended up being purchased by evil corporations alpine and clarion . What alpine did luxman had a hard time recovering from while Clarion took a more hands off leaving McIntosh's reputation untarnished . The McIntosh book is expensive and overpriced but it retains it's resale value just like their equipment . I'm all Mac now . I'm not sure why Mike owns one of each ? I guess he just loves McIntosh ? It's funny in the 70's people sold their old McIntosh gear for solid state because solid state was clearly better Belt drives were sold for direct coupled because Direct drives are better. I purchased a MX110, Dual MC75's and a TD124 for 150.00 dollars in 1978 . Is the book worth 150.00 bucks ? YES . Is McIntosh the best ever ? No ! but it's a known quality and the best return on the dollar . These books are eye candy a conversation piece nothing more. I'm still trying to figure out and maybe someone can help me figure this out. New they sell for 150.00 but through a second source they sell for 450.00 bucks ? WTH ??? "Earth to Matilda" am I the only one that finds this strange ?
only criticism is: why is the book not a rectangle. breaking the pictures over 2 pages is a crime. cord, the car company had a book in the 80s that had pictures on one page. at $150. you would think that an exacting company like mcintosh deserved better. btw/ my first audio equipment was a MA 5100 with large walnut cabinet advents and an ELAC 50 H turntable. i own lots of vintage mcintosh. nothing on the market past or present even comes close !!!
at 10:10 you mentioned an 2102 amp as being made by Sidney Corderman. Just want to be sure -- are 2102's schematics created by Sidney? So that's an older amp compare to MC2000?

Very interesting , it's nice that these older audio companies are still around and thriving
