  • Hello internet, Adam Szabo has just released Viper 1.2.0, the most significant update to his Access Virus like synthesizer.
    This update brings a range of new features, including VST3 support, the classic LFO shapes from the Virus, and the highly awaited Grain & Formant oscillators.
    In today's tutorial, we'll delve into the details of this update, comparing the new oscillators with those found in the Virus Ti2. Along the way, I'll also share some tips and tricks to help you make the most of Viper 1.2.0.

      Some people say you can't load the TI/TI2 presets into DSPEmu but I have tried loading some TI/TI2 presets into the DSPEmu and I''m still getting some decent sounds. What are your thoughts? are the sounds of these TI presets accurate on a DSPEmu ?

    just recently bought viper and i totally love the sound. its like having my ti2 back on my desk i used to own 10 years ago. It sounds even better probably than the original and it runs perfectly fine on my very old PC, worth every cent!

    The DSP563 guys are working hard on the TI emulator, but until that becomes stable enough and with no major bugs, I think I will go VIper mode for a while, especially now that you can import your preset banks :)
    Great video mate, as always!

    Viper has replaced the Virus by now. Sure, we need the Formant Complex mode to make it 100% but for me, it's 90% there and that's enough

      Yup, I'm really asking myself the question now whether I'll keep my Ti2 or not, maybe I'll sell it for a Snow

    i really like the reverb on the virus. I might turn the virus in to an fx box if they add complex formant to viper

      The ambiance one is niceee but the one on Viper is a killer too (too bad we can't use it as an FX) !!!

    Adam did a tremendous job creating the Viper. I hesitated for a long time with the purchase thinking "ehh ... another Sylenth1, what do I need?" I was convinced by update 1.1.0 and the possibility of importing banks from the virus but now I had to lie down because my heart rate jumped ;)
    Sami, I got Fragmentation for Vital and Psychedelic Impressions for Sylenth from you. I use it in almost every project. Maybe it's time to release the bank for Virus/Viper? I will put down those worthless Polish zlotys and buy it as soon as it shows up :)

    The artifacts we get from the Virus TI formant mode is caused by aliasing. You don't get that with Viper which I think is a big plus!

    Haha, I did sell my virus with the announcement of the grain and formant filters for viper. I had so much trouble with the sync and performance overall - so it was a no-brainer. And with the hopeful implementation of the complex grain/formant algorithms in the near future, I'll not look back to the hardware again.

      You know I still have hope that someday Access or someone else will create a proper editor for the Virus to keep these synthesizers running properly!
      I mean even the MysteryIsland editor had some issues with the ARP (at least in my experience)

    I have both Viper and the TI2. One downside of Viper is the lack of physical control that the virus has. Everything on the Virus can be controlled with physical hardware using a combination of the virus itself and external controllers (through a combination of sysex and midicc). Viper lacks the ability to map every parameter to midi (one example are arpeggiator patterns but there are others). But if you don't care much about physical knobs and buttons, Viper is a good option for TI2 emulation.

    • @olliepsy
      @olliepsy  Рік тому

      In my current workflow I'm using my Ti2 most of the time as a VST, I rarely touch the physical controls on it (main reason is that I just can't bare the menu diving anymore, I mean on my VirusA I'm used to it but on the Ti it just added wayy too much pages and the VST is just faster) and since the official editor of the Virus is wayy too unstable, when I see viper doing the same things my Virus is doing and even sometiems better (not to talk about stability), I start to question myself whether I'll keep it or not (I'll get at least a SNOW, saves space and still have the real deal).

    • @mikede2464
      @mikede2464 Рік тому +1

      Yes, I can see if you use the TI plugin exclusively then not much reason to keep the TI2 over Viper at this point. Beyond Viper....the people who emulated the Virus C (the "Usual Suspects" team) advised a TI2 emulator is in beta testing, with a release planned once the TI2 is discontinued. Once that emulator is released (who knows when) I suspect prices for used TI2s will drop considerably. I suspect now is the time to sell a TI2.

      Viper is still missing many modulation, few effect, few osc.
      That been said, Adam is doing a great job
      But you know... we always want everything.
      I don't thing we will soon a dsp emulator for the Ti2.

  • @PATISHAH
    @PATISHAH Рік тому

    Nice comparison! Thank you so much! To my ears, on Virus, when the sound changes with pitch and filtering, and the sound is kind of stretching, you can discern the changes that happen to the sound every millisecond. Most of these new coming changes of resonances inside the sound, do sounds smoother on the viper. There is some simplification of detailisation. Unfortunately.
    This difference is like comparing two mixdowns, one with a low bitrate and another one with a high bitrate. Perhaps the added effects ruin the sound. So it is better to compare clean "sounds".
    But in general, Viper sounds like a Virus, and most people will not hear the difference.
    Can you share these presets for Viper please?

  • @MrDobleagent

    What about to teach us how to make a bass so clean maybe in Viper as the one in Astrix Sahara? problem I got always is that sounds great in speakers, but in headphones sounds totally different!

    • @olliepsy
      @olliepsy  Рік тому

      The issue in here is that most headphones aren't suitable for bassline work because of their acoustics and overall quality (unless you're using high grade headphones like OLLOs), my advice is to stick to either one of them, preferably monitors and work your skills on it. From my experience switching monitoring devices while sound designing a complexe bassline like in Psytrance will most likely make things worst (unless you're 100% sure of your monitors system and know them by heart) as each device has a different acoustics and frequency respons.
      I've already covered the steps of making a porper psybassline in this course :

    Can you explain the pros and cons of this VST vs the Virus emulation VST?

    • @olliepsy
      @olliepsy  Рік тому +8

      In a nutshell :
      1. Viper is emulating the Virus Ti line // DSPEmu is limited to the Virus C (so no wavetable nor grain & fromant osc, no vowel filter, no comb filter, no unipolar mods...)
      2. Viper doesn't have latency issues // DSPEmu does (I made a video on how to fix that btw)
      3. DSPEmu is running the same code as the Virus and AFAIK at the same frequency so you'll get all the aliasing from the Virus, it'll sound exactly the same // Viper has it's own code which means there might be some slight audio differences & some effects specially reverb and delay might night sound exactly the same
      4. Viper works only on Windows // DSPEmu everywhere
      5. Viper is a synth heavily inspired by the Virus // DSPEmu is a Virus running on your computer (it takes more CPU than Viper btw)
      This doesn't mean one is better than the other, both are incredible

    I bought your product as I couldn't steal it in a pirate way. You, guys made very great patches. This synth sounds weak to me, this Character effect is still weak to me. With Plug & Mix - Clarisonix bass enhancer I find it better than a TI.

    • @roccsterx
      @roccsterx 11 місяців тому

      Weak, its pretty much identical, at least in the video, and running the Viper demo I think it sounds pretty much lika any other synth, so in what way do you think it sounds weak?
