That was a fantastic lesson on Kick 2! Yes I learned way more in one lesson with Kick 2 than I ever did since I bought the vst in 2018!! Thank you Ollie! \M/

One thing i noticed with all these tutorials and the immense amount of time I've spent messing around with kick generator plugins is that my transient always sounds off compared to references.
The transients always sound a bit annoying, like the click has a harsh quality but when you really listen to a transient from a top quality reference track, the transient sounds more "full" like it has more of a body and isnt irritating to listen to.
Never seen anyone do a tutorial on this specific aspect of a kick drum and bassline creation (i find the same issue with bass as well).
For me, I can nail almost every other quality of the kick/bass. I can even recreate most kick drums to a pretty high degree of accuracy, like 95-98% accurate but the one thing that I'm missing is the transient design. Literally the first 5-10 ms of the kick drum makes a collosal difference and it definitely seems like sweet spot for the transient comes from some processing and not straight out of the kick generator but pretty much everything ive tried has not given me the results I am looking for. It feels like the elusive transient is like the secret ingredient I am missing from creating truly professional quality kick/basses.
Does anyone else relate to this or am I overthinking things?

Facing a similar issue. But the kick and the bass transient are harsh and annoying. Some tutorials on this issue would be amazing.

Hello! 1. form a transient in the pitch envelope window, it should be quite loud. 2. To get more body, increase the frequency on the equalizer to about 500-2000, listen by ear. then apply compression and severe limiting of this transient. Good luck.
      P. S. always remember that you are listening to tracks after heavy limiting or compression

What is the name of the Ableton Live Oscilloscope? We don’t understand well brand and names in general, you should really display a text for more accessibility, especially when not being a native english speaker

while its typical to have it pitch downwards through the whole kick, i do like to have it end in a flat constant tone, which enables me to properly phasealign with the bass. its a bit of a tradeoff(you can let it keep fading 1-3 hz the last 35-45% of the half bar to counter this a bit, while still getting an almost "clean" note to align with). the continous down pitch sounds a bit more pleasurable, but the perfect phase alignment does also sound very pleasuarable. as im making music around 10-15 bpm lower than ollie, i do have a bit more time on my hands.... in between the beats that is

i think the very short initial fadein in the amp curve is very interesting. i havent seen others do that, but i see it instantly solves the issue with kick2 having a sharp abrupt cutoff at 24khz. while not consciously audible to most, it is subconsciously audible and probably affects the actual performance of the tweeter 👽

You never mess with the pitch ladder on the far left (17.2K by default) ?

Sadly not no. But occularScope by Bom Shanka Machines is free (optional donation to a diabetes charity of your choice) and Audija have a free one too that works on MacOS and Win. You can pay for a premium version with sidechain input for monitoring two signals simultaneously, if you need it.
