    My theory on White's behavior is that he was doing a ton of "attack orange" communication with Black. I've seen some noobs completely lose track of the "how do I get myself in a position where I can win" and instead just want a buddy as soon as it's 3 player.

    • @joelwillems4081

      It is why I've stopped playing alliances on. Either I will be the one that thinks I have a buddy before being back-stabbed, or I will be the one two or three people take turns hitting. Prefer an honest game where no one really communicates except for trying to indicate attention.

    It’s paradoxical how the worst players can bring down the best players in a game. Of course, Lady Luck muddies those waters (White had phenomenal dice and sets throughout almost the entire game).

    I actually think it makes sense black was an expert player.
    You can go for Australia just to have a laugh.
    Then the way he prioritized surviving (putting stack all over the board) and then never taking NA or Africa was a good tell that he was a higher ranked player.
    His opening was probably not a GM opening but good enough for expert.
    Vampirechicken is a GM and he does those crazy Australian openings all the time so there is probably some meta there, everyone leaves him alone because they think he is a noob based on his opening?

    Question, around 25.15 you said that black should have won the game already. I'm guessing you say that based on troup count. Newb Question: You talk sometimes about a player taking revenge on another player, but shouldn't you simply analyze the board and find the best play in the moment regardless of what happened in previous turns, or are you just talking about what you expect OTHER players to commonly do based on emotions even if it's not the correct play? Or are you saying it's valid to take revenge sometimes even if it's not optimal just to send a message to the other players not to f@¢< with you or they'll pay the price?
    Thanks for these videos also! I stumbled across them recently and haven't played in years but it's rekindled my interest and I've started playing online.

    • @TheKillPeteStrategy
      @TheKillPeteStrategy  7 місяців тому +1

      The key thing to take into account with revenge is: Are you ever going to play this person again?
      In public lobbies revenge makes sense in two cases:
      1: If the player has made it so that you can't win; making them lose before you is your highest odds play to get the best possible outcome.
      2: If the player has shown unwillingness or inability to work with you, making it necessary to remove them before hopefully stablizing the game and establishing an advantageous position for yourself.
      In community games and tournament revenge makes sense in different ways. Since we all bear a public reputational cost for our actions and I always play consistently I don't waste too much energy telling other people how I think they 'should' play and rather focus on reminding folks how I play in different circumstances.
      "shouldn't you simply analyze the board and find the best play in the moment regardless of what happened in previous turns"
      The best play depends on those two fundamental different types of games. Am I playing a single game in a vacuum with an opponent in isolation or am I playing a series of iterated games with the same people?
      Great question!

    I think this game showed that you really couldn't read the other players well. As a person who understands noobs, and sometimes used to play like ones, I can understand what they were doing and why they would attack you sometimes. You thought in some cases that they were targeting you when it wasn't the case most of the time. But, gg. I think playing against noobs is as difficult as playing against pros when all that noobs do is target you. But, this was fun to watch. I think you allowed black to gain such an edge against you, and white wasn't really suiciding more like asking for help. But, you weren't doing anything and so he had to attack you because if you aren't helping against the threat why would white fight this battle almost for you while you do nothing to help white against black and white wasn't into letting you gain the edge was most probably what white was thinking. I think you played this poorly Pete, and what led you here was your laughing: "Oh! They are suiciding into each other and are angry at each other, so they are letting me have the victory while I do nothing." Although this seems to work in many games, this mindset this time made you lose since you ended up not siding with anyone making in this case white slightly target you since it was really a fight between you and white for second place once you decided not to be involved in the fight against black.
    I am not hating on you or your gameplay, I am just criticizing this game particularly. I agree that white was trash, but he knew he was trash and that was why he wanted you to help him against black. It was clearly the case when he took down all of Europe so you could have as many routes against black as you pleased, but you not take that opportunity is what led him to attack you with a 17. I think if you tried teaming up with white instead of trying not to be involved then white would have not had to try and suicide you. In this game, I would say you played almost as bad as both white and black, and so it was a fair loss.

    • @joelwillems4081
      @joelwillems4081 9 місяців тому +1

      It's hard to hold Europe when there are noobs all around. They just see that plus five and want to hit anyone trying to hold that bonus. This is why most Pete games try for NA or upgrade to NA. But Pete not consolidating meant he couldn't easily do that after killing Pink. And he surprisingly wasn't aggressive against one player at a time to try to eliminate them in piecemeal. I agree that Pete played a very non-Pete style in this one.

    • @TheKillPeteStrategy
      @TheKillPeteStrategy  9 місяців тому

      "white wasn't really suiciding more like asking for help."
      You want my help you let me hold something so I can help you. White was playing for second as soon as he let black hold and kept hitting me.
      If I'm understanding your take here; white hitting all of my Europe was him trying to get me to hit black. You may be right, but if this is true than white is one of the dumbest people I've ever played against. I can't negotiate with you if you're below a certain minimum level of understanding, so I'll slam all my troops into you and move to the next game.
      Suggesting that I played this poorly because I wasn't able to get on the level of a moron is probably untrue. But it's also possible that I'm a moron

    • @TheKillPeteStrategy
      @TheKillPeteStrategy  9 місяців тому

      @joelwillems4081 I wasn't expecting white to play for second here instead of trying to win. When players play for second it opens up an entirely different extra subset of possible moves which advantaged white because I realized too late.

    • @josephdahdouh2725
      @josephdahdouh2725 9 місяців тому

      @@TheKillPeteStrategy You may be right that there was no way out since you realized it too late. Idk maybe the way I would have played it would have not won the game either. However, I don't think white was a total moron.
      Playing for a second isn't being a moron when you know there was no way out. Once black really doubled both your guy's troop count almost, you should have known that there was no way that white would keep hitting black since that would mean that black would kill him first. What whites did there was try to feed you to black since you were not of much help in the battle against the growing power. You let black hold all NA and kept saying that white is targeting all my ground when even white was moving into black's territory to try and stop black from occupying all of NA. This is what advantaged black-->White was wasting both troops trying to reach black to stop him from growing by crossing a path through you, and at some point, you admitted that white is a troop waster(over attacker) and that he is advantaging black, yet ironically you didn't expect that black would win that war, and expected white to be suiciding more and more troops for the sake of making it more even, yet you did nothing to make things even. In the end, black decided to kill you before he did white maybe it was because he thought that white was trying his best to win or at least balance the troop count even when it was;t the best way possible since he was a beginner and didn't a better strategy to do so, while black saw you doing nothing and let black become a dominator.
      Idk, to me white wasn't a complete moron, but I do admit he had bad plays. Again, however, he did what he could to try to balance things when he knew he had no way to beat black anymore(almost double his troop count), he found no other solution than to feed you.
      But, nice try Pete and you can't win them all. Also, It is not like I can read the player's minds, but I am trying to tell you how I view their thoughts. If I was right about their thoughts, then, I think you misunderstood both their intentions the whole time and instead were speculating that they were morons all along. Also, I disliked the play where instead of taking 2 spots to maintain Europe you did the noob play you typically refer to of placing troops at every corner of the Europe map. Maybe the other way would have made it less likely that they would attack or maybe a greater retaliation from you against the break that black did with consolidated troops would have evened the field more. Idk
      Tbh, I enjoy your winning games a tad more than the losing ones because I do see that sometimes you blame things that in most cases make sense, but in some cases like this one, I can't see eye to eye. But, overall it was a fun watch.
