You know you're getting old when you watch the musicians who "defined" your youth and feel anger toward the unfair fashion in which time has treated them. In essence, you're looking into a mirror, and the wrinkled, bloated faces staring back at you evoke a sense of mourning.
LOL, I've got maybe +10 years on you and I refuse to feel that way when I look in the mirror (most days anyway). Just keep ROCKING I've been a Practicing Guitarist since 1974 and don't plan on slowing down any time soon.
If you close your eyes , George sounds like he hasn't missed a beat from 1985 . Don lookin kinda tired nowadays but that's to be expected - he must be gettin close to 70 . One of my favorite 80's bands by far .
Don can't hit the high notes like he did in the past but he has adapted to his age. George is awesome. Glad they have put aside differences. Love this band.
When Don said, “ I can’t hear you, it’s a rock show, “ someone shoulda said, “unfortunately we can hear you AND see you standing there like a mummy. Neither thing he did was a rock show vibe at all.
@@benbryson6598 yeah in the part where Don sings “tearing it up in the daytime” he plays double bass, and also in Mr. Scary of course. Also with Lynch Mob he played double bass on Street Fighting Man.
I believe these days george deliberately vamps in his fills to see if he can punch his way back in time to make it interesting to play. He could play them perfectly without thinking at this point but that wouldn't be fun
Crazy how someone can go from singing something as incredibly difficult as kiss of death or lightning strikes again in the 80s with insane range for a baritone or even low baritone (he had quite a low speaking voice) and now being barely able to make a sound
Don's voice started deteriorating way back in the mid 1990s By 2002 he had lost his upper range and part of his mid range. By 2010 he pretty much lost it completely. I think what happened sometime between 1999-2002 was he damaged his voice on tour and despite having significant issues he continued touring, further damaging his voice instead of halting the tour. The other issue is that he was a HEAVY smoker, apparently he smoked 2 packs per day, and had been smoking since well before he formed Dokken, although smoking contributed to his decline, it cannot be the sole factor. It's a combination of factors. And indeed he contracted cancer sometime in the late 2000s I believe and then recently had a spinal surgery which almost paralyzed him, he couldn't move his hand and could barely walk for a while and that apparently damaged his voice even more. Interestingly enough though, despite being a heavy smoker all through his career, his voice had improved SIGNIFICANTLY between 1981 and 1987, by the time he recorded under lock and key and back for the attack he was in his prime as a vocalist, he increased his power, range and incorporated a vibrato which he didn't have on the first album.
His son in law Ritchie Faulkner is not to bad either. Watch them jam on UA-cam together. Freakin awesome. They even talked about George playing some guitar for Priest on there tour. HOW COOL WOULD THAT BE! Rock on!🤘🏼🤘🏼

The thing is that Don never had much power but he had tricks up his sleeve to make his voice appear powerful, notably in ways he ended high notes or adding a bit of distortion. Don was a pretty unique singer. His voice was instantly recognizable and was a big part of the classic Dokken sound.
It still takes some human hand dexterity to play the guitar instrument and obviously George still has it. The dude is still all over the stage too. Crazy. Wow
Lynch is is just phenomenal. I feel bad for Don. You can't buy new vocal cords the way Lynch can get new guitars. Don's a beast too, but just can't do what he used to... maybe the AI group that gave Val Kilmer his voice back could don the same for Don, haha.
Cmon guys...at this stage in a career of the band, you gotta have the original cast. Bring back and Mick and Jeff. Don can no longer sing. He can only 'voice' out the lyrics. George can still kill it. But you need to bring back the other dudes. Cmon

I think here he actually sounded good. They just needed to turn his mic up a bit. His vocals were smooth and on point. Especially compared to a lot of other old rockers
This is by far their best song, and my favorite, as well, but I am BEYOND SHOCKED that they actually played this song, since Don can't sing anymore. I saw Don twice at the M3 Music Festival down in Columbia, Maryland, and he didn't play this song either time. I was HELLA disappointed!
