@@JackTaylorGuitars The closer the mic is to your mouth the less room sound you'll pick up. Specifically, the ratio between the two changes. For maximum clarity, you want more direct signal (your voice) and less noise (the room). About 1' (305cm) is a good starting point but experiment with before/after. Though it's virtually always best to get it "right" at the source (low noise, no clipping, no plosives or excessive sibilance), you can also use post processing plugins to help. Some remove room noise, some remove hum, some will 'de-plosive', etc. Also, with voice over it's my opinion that too much compression is actually a negative quality. Sure, while many youtubers compress the heck out of their voice over, and some even make it sound good, I think the majority of us are better of using mild compression at most. Assuming the room noise isn't too noticeable, you can also use clip gain; but if you work on your delivery (mostly consistent volume, get close for quiet parts, far for loud ones, speak clearly) then your post processing needs will reduce. Think of NPR radio. I don't think they used any compression. Just a moderately absorbent space into a Neumann U87 and I believe they engaged the high pass filter; probably mostly for technical reasons. In my opinion, they have some of the most iconic, listenable, and timeless voice over recordings of all time. It's sure better than the hypercompressed/excited news broadcasts that rot people's brains. That's my two cents. Good luck.
I never really wanted one until I had a chance to play it at a local music store - feels so so amazing to play, far more comfortable to me than the other electric nylons
Nice guitar. The sound port in the side is quite common on some 'ukueles. It makes a difference to the player because the sides of the instrument vibrate less than the top and back so it gives the sound created by the top a way to reach your ears directly. A lot of people think the normal top-mounted soundhole is "what lets the sound out" as if it's trapped in the body! The sound comes straight from the vibrating top plate, so as long as the inside isn't sealed (preventing the top from vibrating) the sound is produced with or without a big soundhole in the front. I'm still not too keen on the slight piezo-sounding quack/buzziness, but overall it looks like a nice option. Thanks for the video.
Cheers Rick! This is really interesting actually. I'm absolutely no expert on acoustic instruments so that's super helpful to me. Yeah, it definitely goes have that quack. Not my favourite either but I think I'll get what I want from it with some fine tuning when it comes to recording. I really appreciate you watching and the insightful comment. Thanks mate 🤘
Hmm not convinced on this, Acoustic guitars operate through the soundboard being pulled up and down by the strings pulling on the bridge - like if you did CPR on it. This motion is enacting on the air within the body, being forced in and out of the sound hole, creating sound waves that reach your ears as sound. So to an extent the sound DOES escape through the sound hole, hence gibson putting a “players port” on their generation series. I own one It is certainly louder in your face. I’ve also tried concealing each the primary and secondary(side) soundholes. It does affect the direction of the projection, maybe not on a room scale, but locally. So i’m not convinced. The soundboard (or “top”) is a big part of the process. And it vibrates the most out of any other face on the body. But it’s more the pre-amp than the amplifier.
So let me rephrase that. The sound is not trapped inside, it just comes out better when there's a hole in the guitar to let the sound out. See how contradicting that is?
I’ve had the Tim Henson sig for a few weeks now and I am loving it. My only gripe has been sub par qc on my particular instrument but other than that it is great.
Qc? I'm assuming you mean quality control. If so, what things have been giving you issues? Can a luthier fix them? I have been waiting for what seems like a long time for my tod10n. It's coming up on 6 months since I pre-ordered it. So seeing comments like this worries me. Cause obviously this guitar is in high demand. I live in Canada so this guitar cost me $1000 so I hope the quality is good.
@@MattGabel Nothing major. A few places where dust or something is trapped under the finish. Small ding on top of the headstock. Also a few tiny chips around the edge of the truss Rod slot.
@@-jank-willson I have only run it through vst plugins so far, as I don't currently have an amp, but I have tried it with some distortion and it honestly isn't the worst. Not the best with a ton of distortion, but if you dial it back it sounds pretty neat. Not at all a replacement for a traditional electric guitar, though.
Great review. Still waiting for a TOD. I’ve never seen one in person and I’m not buying one until I’ve had my hands on one. I did pick up an Ibanez GA35TCE nylon string guitar for $120 from someone on Facebook Marketplace a few days ago and I’m surprisingly pleased with it, especially for that price. I’ve been missing the Ibanez thinline electric acoustic I sold to my dad last year.
Thanks so much dude, I’m glad you enjoyed it! I guess with this guitar it’s like if you imagine the Ibby thinline acoustics but it’s got a very definite nylon feel. If you like that idea I’m pretty sure you’d like this! Cheers mate 🤘
where you live mate? I ordered my Tod this week and I got it a mere 2 days later. I absolutely love it..but mind you I am a primarily electric guitar player.
As someone looking for an acoustic-style guitar, I've been looking more and more at something like this, with this thin body, coming from an electric. It was so nice to see something other than a Polyphia cover on it.
That's exactly where I was dude so, from personal experience, I think you'd like it! Even though I wish I could play Polyphia i know exactly what you mean. It's getting a little overdone isn't it? 😂 Thanks for checking out the video mate!
Nice review. I have an Ibanez GA35TCEDVS which is the older more traditional version w slightly deeper body sound hole. Ibanez have been playing with nylon electric fusion for some time now. The thing that really kicks this off is a Bose T4S with sound correction. It'll take that slightly nasal pietzo pick-up and shape it into anything you want. Some of the presets are very good, but you could make your own if you want a unique sound ... This is a really good instrument to drive a downstream pedal. Try a bunch of different combos and I'll bet you find something very tasty 😁
Thanks so much for checking it out man and for the advice, I really appreciate it! I'll have a good look into that before I use it for any tracking. Cheers mate 🤘
They are different. Not trying to duck your question, but the 10N-NTF is good at what it does. The GA35T is more versatile, so I chose that one. But YOU gotta try both. I like the GA35T in hand better, but that's just me ...
I have this in the sunburst version and love it, got it because the TOD10N is backordered, wish it had volume and tone controls but really I guess it is not really needed per-say. I love mine, anticipating my backorder of my TOD10N, I think Ibanez struck gold with these if you're a hybrid player like I am.
Update, this is still one of the best casual demo's. I point folks here to see about nylon electrics. I think Jack needs to demo a few more DSP's after a year with this guitar ?? Obviously this is not a gimmick. Gotta love Ibanez for sticking with the nylon electrics to get to this point. T H has really knocked us all back. But the guitar has to be good to do what he does. Hats off to the factory and to Tim for waking up the electro/nylon fusion world 🙃 Now I gotta get my hands on a Yamaha Silent (nylon version) and try that 😁 Jack, maybe you do too ...
Thanks so much dude, that means a ton to me! Diving into the world of electric nylon guitars is definitely something I’d like to take a little further for sure. Cheers mate 🤘
Great video! I ordered mine back in February and it won't be delivered until June. The UA-cam algorithm recommended your channel to me. I dig your approach, subscribed!!
Thank you mate! It's kind of crazy how fast these models are going in and out of stock. I hope the wait doesn't suck too much dude! I really appreciate you checking out the video and I'm stoked to have you around 🤘
That’s awesome to hear! If I’m honest, I’d been reluctant to do any adjustments on my own just because of it being a classical guitar. Silly I know! But I will give that a try, thank you 🤘
@@JackTaylorGuitars yeah, mine was much too high! If you look at the 12th fret, your strings should be about 3-4mm, I was able to achieve that with the truss rod adjustment. It plays so effortlessly now and no buzz or anything
@@JackTaylorGuitarsdo NOT adjust your string height with your truss rod. Yes, adjusting the truss rod will change the string height, but that is not what the truss rod is designed to adjust. It’s function is to adjust the bow/or straightness of the neck/fretboard. If you want to lower the string action on an acoustic, have a qualified technician, adjust the saddle, the nut, or both.
Just bought one of these and here are my likes and dislikes - The finish feels a little like plastic and I think the binding is painted on. The sound-hole is rough around the edges (easily sanded), the action was a little higher than expected (4mm). Perhaps a scratch plate or truss rod cover would look nice? On the plus side - I absolutely love it and havnt put it down. Its so easy to play, it sounds great plugged in, the neck is superb, the scale length is perfect, its super light. As an intermediate, I have spent many years looking for "the guitar" and have bought and sold many (and still have a few), - I think I have found "the guitar" - Its fantastic and I havnt touched my other guitars in over a week. Its obviously not going to cut it in a rock band scenario, but for the sheer enjoyment of playing, do yourself a favour and buy one.
I'm really glad you're enjoying the guitar man. It's always cool to find an instrument that you really get along with. Thanks for watching dude and keep enjoying that guitar 🤘
I have the Stage so I am a bit biased, but I think you get a lot more for you money with it than these Ibanez guitars. The tone is a lot fuller and less....cardboardy. Recommend watching some videos of others playing the Stage to hear what the tone sounds like because it's a lot different than the Ibanez versions. There are also some others to consider like the Godin Multiac, Kiesel NS1 (both used by Tosin Abasi of AAL on different recordings of The Brain Dance and Para Mexer but wayyy more expensive) the ESP LTD TL6N (used by Javier Reyes on Para Mexer). Animals as Leaders has used this style of guitar to make some amazing songs! I think for the money tho, I'd buy the Stage again it's a great value. Worth noting that Tosin has his own guitar company so isn't forced to use a specific brand. Tim H. is contracted with Ibanez and Javier with ESP. So Tosin's choice to use the Godin and the Kiesel should say something.
I got my TOD10N the other day. The action on it after setup from the store is so much higher than I’m used to. I sent it out to my tech to be lowered. He said I’ll be back to raise it within the year.😅
The action is super high, especially if you’re used to a really low action on your electrics, same as me. If you get a chance, let me know how yours is with a lower action. Cheers dude 🤘
Hey Cosmo, no need to have a tech lower the action. I had the same issue with mine and turned the truss rod about a full turn clockwise, checking between quarter turns. Fixed in 10 minutes!
That feels like sarcasm but I’m going to take it as a compliment so it doesn’t ruin my day 😂 Whichever it is, thanks for watching the video. I appreciate it 🤘
@@c.arandyl In that case, thanks mate! And it’s nothing to do with you dude, don’t worry, I’m just super used to having the piss taken out of my accent 😂 Appreciate you bro, have a great one 🤘
Buckethead got me interested in Nylon strings guitar, and I was searching for Electric Nylon guitars for future acquisition, found the Cort Sunset NY (the FRH10N and TOD10N is probably made by them as well). Unlike the FRH10N or the TOD10N, it doesn't have a sound hole and the controls are at the front, like an electric guitar. Like the TOD10N, it comes with the same Fishman Sonicore Piezo pickup, but has a different Fishman pre-amp. The price of the Sunset NY (as of this comment and where I'm from) are identical the FRH10N's price. When I do get the Sunset NY, I would probably use it for ambient and chordal stuffs, maybe I could use it to learn some classical piece too.
That sounds like a legitimately great option dude! Especially considering that it's likely made in the same place. Great shout man! Cheers for checking out the video as always 🤘
That’s a cool guitar! Gonna have to check one out. I like how Ibanez is sticking with their tradition of keeping model names simple and easy to remember. 😂😂
As a novice in classical, I have my eye on this. I want to get further in music and fundamentals and jamming with my friends before buying anything else, but this could really open the door for me to get into electric. Conventional electric guitars just don't do it for me for some reason. I can't imagine not using all four of my claws on my right hand to play. Also, y'all do vibrato perpendicular to the string? What?
This might be something cool for you to try out then mate! If you want to see a ridiculous electric guitar player who uses fingerstyle check out Matteo Mancuso if you haven't seen him before. Absolutely incredible! And dude, I feel the same way about violin/classical style vibrato 😂 but I do love the more subtle sound. Thanks for watching! 🤘
I am definitely buying this guitar, BUT I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Cordoba Stage. I feel like it's Cordoba's foot in the electric guitar space. This was great!
I appreciate that my dude, thanks so much for checking it out! I’d love to know my thoughts on the Stage too dude 😂 I’ve never seen one in the flesh but they look super cool! Thanks again mate 🤘
If you want that typical quacky piezo sound only get the Ibanez,if you want a much more "natural" Acoustic sound get the Cordoba, that body sensor blend changes a lot :)
The Ibanez is terrible. I don’t understand why these guys can’t figure that out. Technology for amplifying nylon strings is just despicable. Ibanez sounds bitey, shrill, etc. cordoba stage is a significant move in the right direction….
1 year on and its still hard to find one of these. I was looking at it for exactly the reason you were talking about at the end - I have a tele that I love but I wanted something that I could go acoustic with that didn't feel quite so foreign. Out of the box, bridge needs to be lowered, but it sounds and feels exactly how I wanted it to.
That's awesome man, I'm glad you got what you were looking for with this. The saddle height is something I've seen others mention too and I'm with you, maybe a touch off mine would be good. Thanks for watching dude 🤘
It sounds like a stringed instrument but it doesn't sound like a nylon classical guitar. One may as well use a regular electric guitar with a synthesized nylon guitar patch. Thank you for letting us know about this.
It definitely does have the piezo thing when you’re recording out via the circuits, that’s for sure. I will say it’s a lovely sounding thing in the room and that’s my fault for not showing it mic’d. Thanks for watching mate! 🤘
If you watch the interview where Tim H talks about it. He said it was a model Ibanez already made but discontinued in like 97/98 because it didn’t sell well. And Tim said he was in Germany and saw it at a pawn shop and ended up asking Ibanez to remake it and recorded a video of playing god on it
I did watch that mate, it was the Beato one right? Really interesting. I think Ibanez made the right choice financially and for players to make the TOD10n, and then this, a production model when they saw how much hype there was around it. Thanks dude 🤘
@@JackTaylorGuitars oh most definitely Ibanez is a favorite as to guitar brands. And i was listening close because I wanted to find what the old discontinued one mode number or name was. Because I can neither budget for the signature or the cheaper one at this time. And I think a lot of people want companies to produce what they want ad libitum but if it doesn’t make profit it doesn’t get made. So a perfect storm got us this guitar. Just like when Gibson made the explorer and it was too edgy for the 1970s so discontinued until metal got big they started making it again.
Yeah man for sure! Apparently the originals had a serious flaw in the bridge placement that meant they were permanently not intonated or something like that. Would be interesting to see though!
Hmm, walnut isn't used too often for fingerboards on either electric guitars or acoustics because it isn't quite as hard as other common fingerboard wood choices like rosewood (2700 janka), macassar ebony (3220 janka), jatoba (2690 janka), pau ferro (1960 janka ), indian laurel (2340 janka), with walnut having a janka hardness rating of only 1010. Funny thing is that walnut is relatively expensive lumber as well, so raises the question as to why they chose that wood for the "less expensive" version of the Tim Henson signature.
That's some great info dude, thank you! Yeah, that's what struck me as well. I expected Walnut to be more expensive so it was a surprising thing to me too! Cheers for checking out the video mate 🤘
This may sound strange but I love both metal and flamenco, and I always wanted to learn flamenco guitar but they're too big, this is the PERFECT mix of an eléctric/FLAMENCO guitar, particularly this model, with the classic flamenco guitar finish. Flamenco guitars are too big if you're used to play electric guitar, but this would make the transition much easier, plus you can plug it into your interface and no need to set up microphones and find an ideal room to record. Funny thing, years ago, I messaged some Spanish Luthiers to see if they could make a flamenco guitar with a pickup and electric guitar scale length, but no one would do it. Thanks Ibáñez!. Edit: Try play some spanish rumba or popular songs with it, you'll enjoy it more than playing it the 'classical' way :).
That doesn’t sound strange at all dude! It’s definitely funny how things like this come around though, seems like it’s suit you down to the ground. I’ll definitely have a look at learning some bro, thanks for the suggestion and for checking out the video! 🤘
Doesn't sound strange at all . I've been a fan of flamenco surf and metal all of my life. I lived in Roses Spain for a while and I got to see some amazing flamenco players. I learned some of it. Paco is king !
Have you heard of Rodrigo yet Gabriela? Great duet from Mexico that started in separate metal bands and then joined up to duet together. A great listen if yoj want a blend of flamenco and metal
Thanks so much my dude! I can't remember a fitting Merry quote but he'd absolutely support Pippin on that. Appreciate you watching mate, I hope you love it 🤘
I really like these.. I can't wait till I am able to buy one.. I do wonder how it compares to some less talked about guitars like the Cort sunset N and the schecter nylon or maybe the ovation applause N.
I also wonder the same thing! I'm not a big nylon strung or even acoustic type of guy so I dunno whether I'll pick anything else up to compare but we'll see. Thanks for watching mate, I massively appreciate it 🤘
taylor T5Z is the gold standard for acoustic/electric guitar hybrid...this reminds me of a godin...but ill be checking out the tim henson verson ,I cant help it when it comes to a guitar with a cool fretboard design
Interesting! Thanks for the suggestion mate. I'm not an acoustic player generally speaking but this does get me playing a little more when I don't fancy any chugs! I hope you enjoy the Henson model, I've yet to see one in the flesh but I've got to admit I do like them! I really appreciate you watching, all the best! 🤘
its between this and the Godin Multiac for me. The $1000 price difference is what's making it a hard decision for me. I want the Godin really badly, but I have heard great things about the Ibanez too.
Heard good things about that Godin too mate! I'm not an acoustic player really so this made the most sense for me and I'm super happy with it. Cheers for checking out the video dude 🤘
Tried both, and the Godin wins. The Godin i tried had a larger neck - i believe 48, perhaps 50, and it was far more comfortable. The Godin has a slightly more nasal sound, and i believe it's semihollow, but has much more definition when amplified. Godin is slightly larger, so more comfortable to play sitting. The Ibanez has a clearer sound, but no equalization, neck is probably too narrow for articulated jazz or classical, and loses definitoon when amplified. That said, hats off to Ibanez for the nice finish and good materials used at a fair price
good honest review bro. Subscribed. What's the twisty string stuff at the bridge there - it looks like it might be a little tricky to change the strings ? Cheers from NZ 😎 🎸🤘
Thanks so much mate, I’m glad you enjoyed it! That’s all the securings for the nylon string I assume 😂 Like how it’s fastened to the bridge. I’m not looking forward to string changes haha 🤘
@@JackTaylorGuitars is it permanent so like you have to thread the strings thru it or something ? My local Ibanez dealer has moved to a new location so maybe i'll pay them a visit to the new shop over the weekend and ask. BTW mate, Cole & Clarke released a "hybrid" guitar in various pickup configs and have solved with a new patented pickup design that caters for acoustic guitar strings. Musicworks, my Ibanez dealer, is also a dealer of them so maybe i'll kill two birds with one stone, so to speak. Take care bro
As far as I know man, yeah. I know next to nothing about restringing classical guitars but it looks like you keep them tied and tidy by wrapping them on each other. I guess I’ll find out at some point 😂 That sounds like a plan mate. Give them a little ask and see what you can get! Thanks again man, you too 🤘
it’s like an inexpensive Godin Multiac Nylon? I have a Godin, but it has synth access, which is why I got it. This Ibanez looks great if you don’t want/need any synth stuff. Nice job, bro. Peace. 🐰💙🗽🇺🇸🎸🎶🤝✌️
Thanks so much mate, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! That Godin sounds really nice, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one. Might have to check it out. Thanks again bro 🤘
@@JackTaylorGuitars They’re absolutely flawless instruments...kinda pricey, but not too bad. I’m not sure which country you live in, but I’m in the USA, and most Godin guitars are handmade in Canada. Thanks for the response! ✌️
I’m in the UK dude, think they’re pretty accessible over here but I’m gonna do some digging! And no need to thank me man, you took the time to watch and comment. The least I can do is reply! I appreciate it dude, thank you! 🤘
Thank you mate, I’m really glad you liked it! Honestly, I can’t remember 😂 I’m pretty sure that the beginning part of the demo is just DI, some levels adjustment, and a stock Logic reverb plugin called Chromaverb but I’m not 100%
It does, you're absolutely right but for the price it's a really fun piece of kit. Like you say, a little bit of EQ and you're rolling. Great for someone like me who very rarely plays acoustic/classical. Thanks for watching mate 🤘
The only real drawback in my mind is the lack of a flexible onboard preamp, but it's unnecessary in my case, as my preamp sports body resonance IRs in a variety of sizes and grab'n'go, always-available three-knob EQ. Still, it'd be nice to have at least a volume control directly on the instrument. It's maybe worth noting that the plugged in examples here are very effect-laden; it's possible to get a very natural classical guitar tone from this type of axe. (mine's a Washburn Festival Nylon) The recipe on my Zoom A3 is piezo compensated input, any of half a dozen body rez IRs (from a mid-focused parlour to a cavernous Southern Jumbo, EQ to taste, then two reverbs in series. The first is a very tight ambience reverb; short but mixed fairly high. (a short, dark plate will work if you don't have an ambiance algorithm) Follow that with a standard hall or large room reverb with a bit of pre-delay and the early reflections mixed very low. If/when I'm not worried about stage volume, I'll often add a mini pencil condenser aimed near the bridge or where the neck meets the body. I'm thinking seriously of picking up one of these beauties, mainly because I find the classical-style flat fingerboard and chunky neck on my Washburn annoying, despite it's a wonderful addition to my sound pallette.
Thanks my dude, appreciate you checking it out! Yeah man, it sounds great unplugged. I actually prefer it’s acoustic sound. It’s a little quieter than a regular acoustic but not by much at all. Thanks again dude 🤘
That seems like a great sounding guitar from what I can hear with my iPhone. I looked up specs on it and I like the idea of a 46 mm nut. not much bigger than steel string acoustic guitar nut. I have a Washburn classical guitar and the nut is 52 mm which feels rather fat after playing my regular steel string or electric guitar. I may have to bite the bullet and buy one, but I have way too many guitars now . (according to my wife).lol😂
Sounds like it would be a good one to try mate if you can get it past that wife! Don't worry, I have the same conversation often 😂 Thanks for watching mate!
@@BubnHubn yeah but i'm saying that cause during one of the live performances the guitarist actually picks up a nylon for the intro before going back to his electric
I have never had a classical/nylon string guitar. Probably would have to pay someone to restring it hahaha. Ever tried the Ibanez talman? Gonna be my first Ibanez guitar. I have a SICK Ibanez srx400 bass that I absolutely love. I pick it over my Squier Contemporary Jazz all the time. Another great video bro
Honestly dude, I am worried about restringing it when that comes around 😂 I've tried the Talman acoustic once but I'd really like to try an electric. I know the Yvette Young model isn't called a Talman but that guitar in particular looks awesome. Ibanez do make some awesome basses dude! Thanks for checking it out man 🤘
Nylon strings are very forgiving to restring, coming from someone that's had to do it for the first time recently. Brandon Acker has a good video that I followed.
😂 Yeah it could end up kinda…cultured! Actually, I used to know a dude who dribbled spit whenever he played guitar. If he used this it’d be a fish tank in 3 hours. Thanks for checking out the video mate 🤘
I've had no problems, personally. Not the best person to judge cause I'm not accustomed to how other classical style guitars feel but it's very playable and there's been no lifting of the bridge or anything like that. Thanks for watching mate! 🤘
I fitted ball-end classical strings to my Eko Rio Grande dreadnought - and I’ll never fit anything else - the sound is excellent! Now I need to work out how to rebuild the bridge to take a piezo pickup….
That’s a fantastic suggestion, thank you! I wasn’t even aware you could get ball end classical strings. Thank you for that and I hope you manage to get the bridge sorted! And thank you for watching too 🤘
@@JackTaylorGuitars As far as I know... Ernie Ball, Martin and Dunlop have ball-end classicals; they also seem to be differentiated into standard and high tension varieties... although someone told me that the H-T variety is now the standard. I tend to try and avoid the 'H-T' strings with not wanting to put any extra stress on the guitar. Also - be aware of the sets where strings 1 to 3 are black - don't play them outside, in sunlight; the black absorbs heat far better and your tuning goes to hell in a handbasket! Stay with the clear or white strings - I've just checked a new set of Dunlops... they're clear and they're standard tension!
Good luck with your guitar ;) How is the guitar neck finger width? İbanez generally preferred acoustic neck width over electro classical guitar, how is that? :)
I don’t have nearly enough experience with classical/acoustic guitars to give you an answer dude. I’d love to try some more but without playing them, I just couldn’t say mate!
Do you know the weight of this guitar? I can't find it in any specs online. I know it's probably quite light, but I am looking for a lightweight AND small (thin, like an electric) body guitar (health reasons). This seems like a perfect choice for me, just want to make sure.
Hey Joanna! I just went and weighed mine and it's 5lbs exactly according to my bathroom scales 😂 They're not the most accurate but they're pretty close. Sorry to hear you're dealing with some health problems. Hope that helps and thanks so much for checking out the video, I appreciate it 🤘
Thanks mate! It's nice for strumming and sounds great, you kind of just need to get used to the more relaxed feel of the nylon strings. Appreciate you watching dude 🤘
I have a brewdlove discovery nylon string its neck is similar tomy lp special and a similar radius. Thats a huge difference in feel. I use high tension strings and i have the action low since im using high tension strings. I am keeping my eye out for something more like that for late night playing and because the breedlove goes wildly out of tune if the sun hits it
I'm not sure on the mechanics of this one, just that it's called a T Bar undersaddle pickup. I believe it sits contacting the saddle but couldn't be sure. I'm a bit of a noob with classical stuff! Thanks for checking out the video dude 🤘
Thanks dude, that’s kind of you to say! It’s an original idea I think 😅 you know when you’ve got one of those parts that you play to yourself for years? It’s just one of those that I’ve been sitting on. Planning on it becoming a full track soon. Thanks for checking it out mate 🤘
Great review man! I’m trying to decide on which to get. This model in the new blue color or Tim Hensons model. If anyone has any suggestions I’m wide open. Let me know!
I really appreciate that dude, thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I quite like that blue dude, it's a but special. I think, if you can, the Tim Henson model just for the better pickup would make a huge difference. Cheers bro 🤘
A local shop is going out of business, and I actually got one of these as well as the similar Godin GTour(same idea, with sound hole). Got a screaming deal, sonI cant complain. Im new to Nylon, is there any brand of Nylon strings that give it less of the "rolly" feel?
That's sick man, great catch! I'm new to nylon too tbh but I haven't found anything to reduce the rolly-ness. I think it might just be something we have to get used to. Cheers for watching man 🤘
I just got an FRH10N of my own and there's a weird buzzing resonance of something within the body, like a wire or piece of debris, that you can hear when playing a high E or F on any string. It's really punchy and annoying while plugged in. Other than that no problems with the guitar.
That's really weird dude, I can't think what it might be. Unless it's like harmonic resonance causing the wiring for the piezo pickup to vibrate or something? I'd probably get the back plate off to have a look and see if you don't want to get someone to do it for you. Thanks for watching mate! 🤘
Thanks for the clarification mate, I appreciate that. So I guess this is slightly none standard then having even just a slight radius, though the nut width is what you’d expect. Appreciate you watching dude 🤘
The top classical guitar from Artist Guitars also has a piezo pickup and a slightly radiused fretboard - but the body is deeper - more like a standard classical guitar. I’d be spoilt for choice - but I would seriously go for an Ibanez! Shame you can’t get a 50 year old version - their guitars in the 70’s were drop-dead gorgeous!
Could you compare it to the Cordoba Stage? IMO the Stage is too "electric". It's got a great amp, but it "basses" out, compared to the regular cutaway amped flamenco guitars. Tho I did try a 2x price Flamenco vs the Stage, and... Nah, the Cordoba Flamenco won hands down, tho at 2x the price of the Stage, so idk...
A lot of folks have suggested the Stage as something I should try out! I've got it on the list but I'm not a huge acoustic player so it might be a while before I get my hands on one. Keep an eye out though! Cheers for watching mate 🤘
I have yet to find a video review of this guitar where I'd like the sound of it. For my taste this is very harsh and brittle-sounding. Also the absence of tone and volume controls makes it impractical for stage use, and where else would I want to use such guitar? Godin multiac sounds much better IMO and at about this price range I liked some of the demos of the Cordoba stage. Not quite as good as the Multiac, but great at the price. Even the Yamaha silent guitar is preferable to this for me.
Thanks for checking out the video dude, I appreciate it! I actually have no idea about cases for this but, if I was to guess, it might fit in anything that fits a thin line tele. Sorry I can’t be of more help mate!
I’m not the best person to ask about that style. Hopefully someone else can help with that but I would say so, yeah! It feels great to play finger style. Thanks for watching mate 🤘
I ve got same guitar ,but I got the bad one,it has some much noice inside the guitar that I can’t fix and piezo doesn’t work anymore and the bridge almost out…I liked the sound, but the quality is not the best
That’s rough man, I’m sorry you ended up with a bad one! Have you given Ibanez a message to see if there’s anything they can do for you? Thanks for watching dude, I appreciate it 🤘
@@JackTaylorGuitars thanks for reply! The thing is I bought this guitar from a music store in other country which is not Ibanez oficial sellers,so I don’t think Ibanez will be responsible for this,so I have to fix it myself… Do you have any noise when you play it acousticly without plugging in?
@@JackTaylorGuitars the noise is like there some cabels inside are not fixed and you can hear them shaking and the wood is so dry so when I opened that thing in the back of the guitar there is wood cracked
Dude, yeah, definitely speak with Ibanez support because that sounds like a quality issue rather than a retailer thing. The loose wires could well be poorly secured pickup wiring which I'd say is down to them too. I'd expect them to sort it under manufacturer warranty.
Find the saddle peizo on nylon electrics sound so thin and tinny. I'm looking at the Cordoba stage atm, haven't had a go yet, but it has microphones in the body? I wonder if that will fill the sound out?
I'd like to try the Stage too. I've heard so many good things about it that it seems like it could be a better option than this but I couldn't say for sure as yet. Thanks for watching too! 🤘
Awesome, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it mate. I’m not affiliated with anyone but I personally use Neural DSPs stuff and love it! That’s where I’d start looking if that’s what you need. But you can still amp this guitar like normal if that’s easier for you. Thanks for checking out the video 🤘
@JackTaylorGuitars nah, the neck is good. I managed to find a Luthier to adjust the bridge, and put better strings on. But the nut still needs adjusting and even then the intonation is garbage...and I've read a lot of people have problems with the intonation on the tod10 too. These are just budget guitars when it comes to playability. Though the finish and all is right up there with the fender American telecoustic!
Ah well I'm glad you're getting somewhere with it mate! It seems like Ibanez have been struggling a bit recently with getting a consistent product out!
I am for sure not the person to tell you mate but hopefully someone can give you some advice. It's got the completely flat fretboard so I would say it's probably as good as anything else!
I appreciate that mate. It's one of mine, so thank you. As yet unreleased because it's a bit of a personal one but I'm planning on putting it out some point this year. When it does release there will be free tabs etc. Cheers for watching dude 🤘
Currently dude, from what I've heard, it's still on back order for a while but I've just checked and Andertons.co.uk has 2 of the brown sunburst in stock. GuitarGuitar has a natural in stock too. I don't know if that's any help to you though? Thanks for watching man 🤘
I couldn't say for sure dude, I'm not even sure what strings are on there already but you'd probably get a beautifully responsive playability and sweet, mellow tonal warmth. Thanks for watching mate 🤘
I wish I could’ve found one but I went with the Cordoba Stage. I’ll probably find one eventually because I figured out mine makes some drum sounds when plugged in so uhh… I’ll need a back up lol
@@JackTaylorGuitars I love the stage. Whether you’re using it as a practice guitar unplugged or plugging in and doing some tapping on the body it’s cool. The neck shape is nice and thin (maybe like a thin C or oval), and the top feels like it’s strong enough to take me tapping and smacking it like a drum. Plus it looks nice.
its 100 dollars more cheapter then the TOD10N i def would still go for the TOD10N if i had the budget but if my budget was under TOD10N then def this one
If that's the difference where you are then that's definitely the right decision I think. Here, the difference is anywhere between £200 - £250 which is a fair chunk. Thanks for watching mate! 🤘
Cheers my dude! I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Stage. The pickup on this is a little lacking, that’s for sure. If I ever get the urge for another nylon I’d definitely want to give the Cordoba a try. Thanks again mate 🤘
I dont think you understand at all the reason Tim needs a guitar like this because youre not aware of the issue of sound delay in acoustic guitars. There is a very long and noticeable sound delay in steel string guitars which is why you never see someone who plays a steel string guitar who can play fast. This is the reason that almost all jazz players (Im talking real jazz, not fusion) use pickups on a hollow body guitar. Flat top body acoustic steel string guitars just sound horrible when played fast as the notes dont even have a chance to ring out. Which is also why jazz guitarists profer arch top which has much less of a problem with delay. Acoustic nylone string guitars have much less of a problem with delay but its still a problem to play fast. So times electro-nylon solves this, it has the speed and clarity of an electric guitar but it sounds just like an acoustic.
Thanks for the info mate, it's an interesting thing to note. Tim didn't mention anything like that in his Beato interview as far as I recall so it's definitely nice to learn a little bit more 🤘
You need to hear John McLaughlin's work with Shakti, if you have the opinion you do, It will cure you of your belief. There are countless country players playing insanely fast on steel string acoustic guitars too. I understand what you mean about notes not popping out but it depends where you pick and which if any reverb or room sound is in use.
I got a clunker..sending it back tomorrow..the intonation on the B string is so bad it makes it unplayable. Swapped for a new set of strings with the same results..pretty bummed.
I wonder if you can play this or the tim henson signature silently with headphones with a headphone amp such as the fender mustang micro like an electric
If you mean other people hear nothing at all while you play with headphones then I doubt it mate, it’s really fairly loud acoustically. You could definitely play it though a micro amp with headphones though. Thanks for watching man 🤘
@@JackTaylorGuitars Yeah no that makes perfect sense haha. It would be cool if it’s compatible with the micro headphone amp and mess around with the effects through headphones as I’ve heard that it doesn’t work with piezo pickups, so Yamahas are a no go if you wanna use a fender micro headphone amp
Aside from the aesthetic stuff dude the biggest difference is the electronics. The TOD10N has Fishman stuff man, looks pretty good! Thanks for checking out the video God. Amen 🙏
@@JackTaylorGuitars thanks i was wondering if there were any major differences in the build quality or whatever, im pretty new to guitar (like 6 months to 11 months) and want to find a sound that suits what i wanna play and compose and i just think this might be it
Ah cool, I get you! Construction wise as far as I know they’re pretty much identical. It’s all just in the finish and the pickup dude. My advice would be get whichever one makes you stoked to play provided it’s attainable. You don’t always need the best option but if it gets you excited to practice then that’ll be the one you should get. Hope that helps a little!
Hi, bro pls can you help me I probably searched the whole internet and still didnt get the answer. I have this guitar but I hate the strings cutting into the wood of the bridge so I ordered those little string beads. That would be okay but I also want to use Savarez high/medium tension strings (bass hard, treble normal). Do you think it´s safe to use this combination of such strings and string beads? Is it possible that the pressure or tension on the bridge somehow changes and potentialy damage the bridge? Im absolute unexperienced noob and Ive seen many pictures of TOD10N with bridges ripped off and I dont want that to happen.
Hey dude! To preface, I'm kind of a noob when it comes to nylon strung guitars so don't take my thoughts as gospel here. In terms of the beads, I think they'll be fine to use looking at how they spread the tension (if I'm looking at the right thing). I have seen the pictures of the TOD10N too so I get why you're worried. If you're unsure, don't do the work yourself, have a guitar store give you some advice or do the restring/setup. Sorry I couldn't be of more help mate but thanks for watching the video! 🤘
@@martingaspar8364 It’s just what I’d do mate 😂 I’m not super confident in faffing about with classical guitars especially after seeing the TOD10N haha
Sorry about the vocal audio my dudes. Was testing out a new mic. Back to the Shure next video! I appreciate you 🤘
It’s probably not the mic, it’s the extreme compression.
@@Hexspa You could well be right, I’m still fairly new to this video making thing, especially the vocal audio 🤷🏻♂️
Good luck.
Next, try out this guitar with a heavy metal pedal and see how good it is at Thrashing!
@@Hexspa I really appreciate it mate, thank you! I've gone back to the SM58 for now instead of the lapel but I'll look more into it!
I never really wanted one until I had a chance to play it at a local music store - feels so so amazing to play, far more comfortable to me than the other electric nylons
Absolutely! I’m not really into classical guitars either but I had to try this. Glad you like it too mate! Thanks for checking out the video 🤘
Hmm not convinced on this,
Acoustic guitars operate through the soundboard being pulled up and down by the strings pulling on the bridge - like if you did CPR on it. This motion is enacting on the air within the body, being forced in and out of the sound hole, creating sound waves that reach your ears as sound.
So to an extent the sound DOES escape through the sound hole, hence gibson putting a “players port” on their generation series.
I own one
It is certainly louder in your face.
The new gibson acoustic have side ports , I was confused but thanks for the explanation
@@dogtownoon9791 if you are responding to the main comment - read mine above
So let me rephrase that. The sound is not trapped inside, it just comes out better when there's a hole in the guitar to let the sound out. See how contradicting that is?
I’ve had the Tim Henson sig for a few weeks now and I am loving it. My only gripe has been sub par qc on my particular instrument but other than that it is great.
Awesome dude, stoked you’re having a great time with the Henson model! Thanks for watching dude 🤘
Does it work good with effects pedals? Like would it sound good playing thrash metal through heavy distortion?
@@-jank-willson I have only run it through vst plugins so far, as I don't currently have an amp, but I have tried it with some distortion and it honestly isn't the worst. Not the best with a ton of distortion, but if you dial it back it sounds pretty neat. Not at all a replacement for a traditional electric guitar, though.
i finally got my tim henson model a few days ago (pre ordered in october) and while im just learning i love it so far

Great breakdown, appreciated the DI and plug-in examples 🤙🏼
Thanks so much dude, I’m stoked you enjoyed it 🤘
As someone looking for an acoustic-style guitar, I've been looking more and more at something like this, with this thin body, coming from an electric.
@@JackTaylorGuitars absolutely! Great video! Thank you for the feedback and insight!

No trouble at all dude, I’m just glad it helped! Thanks for checking it out 🤘
Nice review.
Of the two guitars, which do you think you’d prefer and why?
They are different. Not trying to duck your question, but the 10N-NTF is good at what it does. The GA35T is more versatile, so I chose that one. But YOU gotta try both. I like the GA35T in hand better, but that's just me ...
I have this in the sunburst version and love it, got it because the TOD10N is backordered, wish it had volume and tone controls but really I guess it is not really needed per-say. I love mine, anticipating my backorder of my TOD10N, I think Ibanez struck gold with these if you're a hybrid player like I am.
The sunburst one is super nice, I’m glad you like it! Thanks for watching the video 🤘
Volume and Tone controls?
@@somasundaramsankaranarayan4592 Nope, got to go to the TOD10n to get those, just a direct DI out, no longer have it in favor of the TOD10n.
I believe the ones that will be shipping soon will have the same Ibanez volume/tone preamp presently on the TOD10N…
Hats off to the factory and to Tim for waking up the electro/nylon fusion world 🙃
Now I gotta get my hands on a Yamaha Silent (nylon version) and try that 😁 Jack, maybe you do too ...
I got mine last week! If you adjust the truss rod clockwise the strings will lower. I’ve got mine playing like butter. Feels like my electrics
Thanks mate! I appreciate the advice!
4mm string action is ridiculously high.
Great review and some nice playing.
I am thinking of something like this or the Cordoba Stage.
Thanks so much dude! I keep hearing so much good stuff about the Stage but haven't tried it. Definitely worth a look by the sounds of it though 🤘

Gotta respect the bucket!
That’s a cool guitar! Gonna have to check one out. I like how Ibanez is sticking with their tradition of keeping model names simple and easy to remember. 😂😂

Great review!!! I'd love to see you compare it to the Cordoba Stage guitar!
Thanks so much mate! I'd heard a lot of good stuff about the Stage. Maybe I'll check one out soon🤘

I'm glad Ibanez is now making left handed versions

Liked your review and I have the same guitar played thru a catalyst 60. Great sounds!
Thank you mate, I appreciate that! Glad you’re happy with yours 🤘

Amazing review bro. In the words of the great Pippin Took... "I'M GETTING ONE!"
Thanks so much my dude! I can't remember a fitting Merry quote but he'd absolutely support Pippin on that. Appreciate you watching mate, I hope you love it 🤘

@@soundleague I’m flattered you think so dude. I’m clearly in good company 🙇🏻♂️
I absolutely love these , they fit my style totally. Wondering if it would be good for gypsy jazz chords?
Yeah dude, I reckon so! Though I'm not a jazz player, I think you'd have a good time with this. Cheers mate 🤘
Thanks for watching mate, I massively appreciate it 🤘
First time watcher, loved the content. Subbed bro.
That's incredibly cool of you dude, thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it and I'm stoked to have you around 🤘
Nice review. Have you done one of the Cordoba Stage?
Thanks so much mate! I haven't but I do intend to at some point. Loads of folks have pointed me in that direction so i'm super curious now 🤘
taylor T5Z is the gold standard for acoustic/electric guitar hybrid...this reminds me of a godin...but ill be checking out the tim henson verson ,I cant help it when it comes to a guitar with a cool fretboard design
Great review Jack. I have subbed you. I’m stuck for choice now
Thanks so much mate, I really appreciate that! Glad to have you around 🤘
That intro playing was nice
Thank you mate, I appreciate that! 🤘
its between this and the Godin Multiac for me.
@@JackTaylorGuitars great videos mate, keep them coming.
That means a lot mate, thank you!
I got my A6 lol, love it@@PL-bc3iz
good honest review bro.
I guess I’ll find out at some point 😂
That sounds like a plan mate.

great review ! what tone are you using at the beginning of the video ?
Thank you mate, I’m really glad you liked it! Honestly, I can’t remember 😂 I’m pretty sure that the beginning part of the demo is just DI, some levels adjustment, and a stock Logic reverb plugin called Chromaverb but I’m not 100%
Not bad for a 500€ guitar! It does have that "plastic" piezo sound but ad some EQ and reverb and it's just fine!🙂
Thanks for checking out the video mate! 🤘
The Tim Henson version has a built in preamp wit eq
How's it sound unplugged? Is it something you'd pull out to play not plugged in or nah? Cheers, homie. Great video.

Metallica nothing else matters is like the first year beginner classical guitar. Great stuff for complete beginners

The problem with that sound hole, every time you sneeze, it'll be directly into the guitar. Fast forward a few years and.. well... ;)
😂 Yeah it could end up kinda…cultured! Actually, I used to know a dude who dribbled spit whenever he played guitar. If he used this it’d be a fish tank in 3 hours. Thanks for checking out the video mate 🤘
Cover your mouth when you sneeze
Hows the intonation and action? I know the tod10 had tons of problems
That's incredibly helpful, thank you so much! You may well have saved me loads of trouble when I come to restring 😁

Which one do you think is better: this Ibanez or the Cort Sunset Nylectric DLX? Thanks!

@@JackTaylorGuitars Ok. Thanks for you support! 🤝🏻👍🏻

@@petaralargic No problem at all dude. Have a good one!
I have a brewdlove discovery nylon string its neck is similar tomy lp special and a similar radius. Thats a huge difference in feel. I am keeping my eye out for something more like that for late night playing and because the breedlove goes wildly out of tune if the sun hits it
Interesting, that sounds like a cool playing guitar! I hope you enjoyed the video mate, thanks for checking it out 🤘
Is it the “stick” piezo under the saddle or inside underneath the bridge
I'm not sure on the mechanics of this one, just that it's called a T Bar undersaddle pickup. I believe it sits contacting the saddle but couldn't be sure. I'm a bit of a noob with classical stuff! Thanks for checking out the video dude 🤘
Awesome playing man. Whats the name of the first song feels like i heard it.

Any time!
Cheers for watching man 🤘
Awesome and informative🎸🎸🎸🎸
That’s kind of you mate, I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thank you 🙏
I just got an FRH10N of my own and there's a weird buzzing resonance of something within the body, like a wire or piece of debris, that you can hear when playing a high E or F on any string.
Have you ever played at Godin? I would like to know if you think this is better than Godin?
I haven’t dude but I’d love to from what I’ve heard about them! Cheers for watching mate 🤘
You mentioned the neck having a 16" radius. All classical guitars have no radius they are flat & usually 2" at the nut.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment mate! Worthwhile suggestions for anyone who might be considering this type of guitar 👍

Ah bro, that’s awkward. Probably worth asking Ibanez though still, they might be able to help. I’ve had no issues man no, what’s the noise like?

Awesome, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it mate. I’m not affiliated with anyone but I personally use Neural DSPs stuff and love it! That’s where I’d start looking if that’s what you need. But you can still amp this guitar like normal if that’s easier for you. Thanks for checking out the video 🤘

Your bridge is much lower than mine. Mine is unplayable above the 10th fret. Did you shave the bridge? Where did you buy yours?
Is it? That sucks man. I haven't made any modifications to the bridge dude. It was from Andertons. Any luck with adjusting the truss rod at all?
@JackTaylorGuitars nah, the neck is good. I managed to find a Luthier to adjust the bridge, and put better strings on. But the nut still needs adjusting and even then the intonation is garbage...and I've read a lot of people have problems with the intonation on the tod10 too. These are just budget guitars when it comes to playability. Though the finish and all is right up there with the fender American telecoustic!
Ah well I'm glad you're getting somewhere with it mate! It seems like Ibanez have been struggling a bit recently with getting a consistent product out!

Is this guitar good for classic Jazz ?
I am for sure not the person to tell you mate but hopefully someone can give you some advice. It's got the completely flat fretboard so I would say it's probably as good as anything else!

@@JackTaylorGuitars I love the stage. Whether you’re using it as a practice guitar unplugged or plugging in and doing some tapping on the body it’s cool. The Cordoba Stage has a way better Pickup system and sounds more "realistic" only my opinion :) anyway great video
Cheers my dude! I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Stage. The pickup on this is a little lacking, that’s for sure. If I ever get the urge for another nylon I’d definitely want to give the Cordoba a try. Thanks again mate 🤘
The problem with this system is that it still suffers from the stethoscope effect from the pickup system.
Yeah, it’s not the best pickup but I do like it. I will admit again I’m not an acoustic player in general 😂 Thanks for watching mate 🤘
Ah dude that sucks! I’m gutted for you. Hopefully getting it back to them and a replacement won’t take to long, if that’s what you go for 🤘
I wonder if you can play this or the tim henson signature silently with headphones with a headphone amp such as the fender mustang micro like an electric
A mate of mine has a headphone amp. I’ll try and get a hold of it and give it a test if I get a chance and let you know!
