Strings: 9-48
__________
The album version of St. Vitus Dance is tuned slightly sharp of C#, somewhere between C# and D-Standard, but we're going to do it in C#-Standard as they would have played it live.
One cool and unique thing about this song is that the riffs for this one are played in 3 separate keys:
First Riff - B Major in C# Standard (D Major position in E Standard)
Second Riff - B minor in C# Standard (D minor position in E Standard)
Third Riff - G# minor in C# Standard (B minor position in E Standard)
So it goes to the parallel minor in the Second Riff, and the relative minor in the Third Riff. All of it is pretty in-key, while the bluesy minor third is used in the First Riff.

I just already know I'm gonna love this vid, St vitus dance deserves more attention!! Vol 4 Is a masterpiexe
Yes! Vol 4 is my favorite Sabbath album. I'd like to do a lesson for every song. lol.
@@DoesItDoom what about FX?))
Vol. 4 is essential doom metal
@@matthewoshea7224 I totally agree, it's a classic
If you only had 1 Sabath lp (bought mine in high school when originally released). VOLUME 4.
Definitely one of the more overlooked songs from my personal favorite Sabbath album.
My personal favorite Sabbath album as well. 🤘🏻✝️🦇
One of my favorite Sabbath songs. That verse riff is heavy AF
@@matthewoshea7224 isn’t it though? So overlooked.
St Vitus Dance is my favorite Sabbath song. Dark heavy yet upbeat. I love contractions like that.
Pleasantly surprised to see so many sharing in the love for this song!!!
When that 2nd riff is being played slower makes it sound even more awesome than it is
Totally agree. I had to speed up the way I normally play it to play in tempo with the real track.
As a true sabbath fan, musician and doom geek...I must say:the tone is great.👹
Thanks brother.
My literal all time favorite Sabbath song.
Awesome! One of mine for sure.
I love the bass jams with the guitar Black Sabbath is the ultimate Jam Doom Band!!! 💀
Thanks man!
You’ve always got the best guitar tones. I’m still experimenting with my own videos trying to get my microphones placed in the right position to capture what I hear in the room but it’s harder than what a lot of people realize. You do really good at it.
Thanks, John. I’ve still got plenty of room for improvement. Most of what you hear on the channel is actually using TwoNotes DynIR technology rather than actual cabs and mics.
Killer lesson! You absolutely NAILED the tone!
Always super impressive, Steve! Cheers!
Love that D chord riff. Almost has a Led Zep vibe :)
Its' crazy how many tunes on Vol 4 uses that open D-Major chord shape. Wheels of Confusion, Cornucopia, Snowblind, St. Vitus's Dance, Tomorrow's Dream... almost every song.
Time to learn a new Sabbath song! 🤘
Enjoy!
Peaked on pure x to this song. Was bliss.
No such thing as to much Sabbath!!! Cool lesson Steve!!!🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Thanks Chris. Never too much. Always my favorite to learn and teach.
I love that song
So good!
Excellent work. Loving those p90s. Thanks for the vid
Underrated song! Great video brother!
Thanks, bro! Such a great tune.
Thx for Black Sabbath Guitar Lesson St. Vitus' Dance \m/
🤘🏼 Yes! Always one of my favorite Sabbath songs on their best album. Cool lesson, Steve. 🐐🦇
Thanks for watching! Pleasantly surprised to see so many sharing in the love for this song!!!
Excellent!!! Great tone.
Excellent video that shows how to play this another great Black Sabbath song
Thanks man!
you fuckin nailed that tone on dot bro!!!! holy shit now I want the gear you have lol!!!
Much appreciated man! I'm biased, but I think the Walpurgis really nails that 70's Sabbath live tone.
As a kid MOR and SBS were my favorites . Now as a man I realize Vol 4 and Sabotage are . Fuck man idk anything any more . First 6 are perfect
Can’t beat ‘em! Vol 4 has alway been and always will be my favorite!
@@DoesItDoom symptom of the universe is the greatest riff and tone and song structure and balance and perfect writing of any song in the universe
I’m late to the game but enjoyed the video. Thanks. Cheers
Fucking nailed the tone, fantastic break down with some theory and clear instruction - I can watch and also listen and play with you, quality stuff like always Steve! thank you for bringing the best ❤
I'm convinced I'm gonna have to get in on the Does It Doom? pedals.
Thanks so much, dude! So happy you're enjoying the lessons.
THANK YOU FOR THIS
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Nice. This is a fun song to play. You play it how I play it (which is how I've seen him play it live 👌).
I've actually never seen him play it live! Any clips you've seen online?
Grew up skipping school and listening to Sabbath albums smokn dope drinkn beer !!!!!!🤟🤟
One question sir I see Tony with his red sg with silver pups with a lot of screws which pups were those ? Custom p90s ?? This is before the ol boy
yo need to do cornucopia bro!!! I've been trying to learn this for a while
One of my favorites. I'd like to do all of Vol 4. Working on a TAB for Wheels of Confusion now.
Black Sabbath 1970:lets give birth to metal 1972:Country metal is fun too
In general Vol 4 is full with great songs and shorter ones than they should be.This LP must influenced many bands of late 80s-90s rock s scene
That opening riff has a very country feel to it for sure. Tony used the open D-Major power chord shape a ton on Vol 4... Wheel's Of Confusion, Tomorrow's Dream, Snowblind, Cornucopia, St. Vitus' Dance, Supernaut... almost every song on the album.
@@DoesItDoom i am not a music expert you know better this stuff and thanks for the info about this!Listening to other bands of these years LPs around 1971-72 vol 4 sounds so much heavier!!It s insane. And they were coming from a really heavy LP like mor but there is something different here
@@ΝικοςΡαπτης-ξ2ψ absolutely agree.
This song is the real prove that a guitar solo is not necessary to make a cool song 🤘
Playing these chords around the 10th or 12th fret is a major part of the tone. Nugent was even doing this in '68 on that 'journey to center of mind' song, hits a pedal and mashes down on a very heavy mid section. I find myself using forefinger and pinky only when playing doom hippy stuff, just cuz'.
p.s. oh crap this is another one that's halfway between c# and d, even remaster version
Without a doubt.
After Black Sabbath, there was Saint Vitus and Pentagram. Both those bands had some heavy as fuck guitar sounds. Chris from Saint Vitus is a cool dude. And same goes for Victor Griffin of Pentagram. First 2 Pentagram albums go hard
Best Friday evening, when new lessons come

You should do some Obsessed or Spirit Caravan lessons. Spread the Word of Wino and his riffage, man.
Done a couple Wino-era Vitus tunes. Got a tab for Melancholy Gray up on Patreon. I’m sure I’ll do some more at some point.
Am I tripping or is there no lesson to Dopesmoker (especially the soloish parts)? Would love to learn that song!
I’ve got a tab of the entire rhythm sections on guitar and bass up on Patreon. Haven’t taught it yet though. Patreon.com/doesitdoom
The correct tuning for this song is 1 step down from standard. DGCFAD
Hi, Steve, love your contents. BTW, any tips on down tuning SG with the wraparound bridge to A~C standard? I mean scale length is obviously shorter than Tune O matic like SG standard. Should I swap the bridge or go for heavier strings like 12-56.
The scale length is still 24.75”. I would get an adjustable wraparound so you can adjust the saddles like the old “Leo Quan Badass Bridge”. If you do that, you should be able to get to C-std and still intonate no problem.
Thank for awesome tips. Yeah, I will definitely check on Reverb. Cheers!
Cool..just bought a new SG
Awesome! Which one?
@@DoesItDoom brand new Black Standard..awesome

Lord Iommi
buzzoven lesson please
Have a couple TABS ready to go. Just need to do the lessons.
man can i ask you about where does the iommi logo at the beginning comes from?
Friend of mine drew it for me when I started the channel.
Is that sg top wrapped? Recently got my les Paul top wrapped but I don’t really notice any difference in how it plays
What is that song that is played that heavy lonely chord on the intro??
That’s a small piece of the recording I did for the Fuzzlord Drone Master demo a few years ago.
ой прикольно, клёвый Gibson, теперь ждём Epiphone SG Muse в стиле stoner doom :)
I play Epiphone's very often! Have a 2011 Epi SG Special about to get new wiring and pickups. Will be using it a lot!
Where i could buy your effect warpurgis?
We are currently sold out. Should have another run in the works within a month or so.
@@DoesItDoom Ok thank you for anwser
And maybe you know how is effect guitar who's will be similar to effect warpurgis?
😎
Bro what do you know about SG's that have thin or as marketed known "ultra-thin U" I have an LTD Eclipse QM-401 and the neck on that thing is light, thin and so comfortable to play with, but my Epiphone SG has a fat neck, was wondering if you knew of some brand that has a lighter, more thin neck to play, would love to try one! Cheers!!!
Not too sure. I'm not a fan of thin neck profiles myself. Some eras of Gibson have them. My Epiphones tend to be more medium.
🤘🏽🤘🏽
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Vol 4 has some great songs, but I have always thought that Vol 4 and Master of Reality had some of the worst mixing jobs I've ever heard. They are very muddy sounding. Sabotage and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath got back to the old sound. Your setup sounds MUCH better than those recordings!
🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
Thanks Joel!
Get your "shit" tuned up lol!
C-Standard is the new standard. lol.
Dont Play with God's Word here, Black Sabbath? Do you even know meaning of the Word, and more sad is having image of Jesus with satanic horns, plese stop this man, Repent, i am praying for you.
