I used to work for the Highways Dept in South Australia. All the Regional Engineers in the outback areas drove Toyota Landcruisers as Departmental cars, as outback roads (apart from the major highways) tended to be unsealed and prone to flash flooding at times. When Range Rovers became available, all the RE's put in for one as they fancied driving in a bit of luxury. Twelve months later the RE's were back in Landcruisers as the Range Rovers had disintegrated into little piles of nuts and bolts.
I am from Iceland (whereelse 😂)and i remember that car. I have wonderd about it disappearance because i haven't seen for a very long time, seeing it in rural Wales surprises me.😊
Owned a 2003 model Landcruiser from 2006 - 2019. Had the 3rd row so all six of us could get in. Went all around the UK and over to France. The most capable and reliable car I have ever owned. I shed a tear when I had to sell him, but he's still MOTd and taxed with a new owner. Loved the review, thank you!
Toyota still make Land Cruisers with the 1HZ engine, I have a LHD double cab pick up, made in 2023, it is like a throwback to a bygone era. But in a glorious way. So simple, rugged and capable. Old Skool.
Not wishing to be height-ist, but that must have been a challenge to climb in for Miss HubNut! Unless she too is "like a gazelle"!!! Went to Iceland a couple of years ago expecting to see dozens of these type of vehicles, and, of course, most people drive perfectly ordinary cars on tarmac roads. Did see some amazing Tundra trucks at tourist destinations though. Cheers
In Canada, we have used Toyota Land Cruisers for Decades, there are very few examples of older models still in existence, because they usually get driven into the Ground, and finally become unroadworthy. 500,000 miles is Average on those here. Nice to see they are available there.
How many times did you two have to re-film the part where you were saying Jeep BJ?.....at least twice I imagine 😂. That is an absolute beast and I love anything that is to do with Iceland, what an amazing country, especially for petrolheads.
16:20 Footwell intrusion by the transmission tunnel. RHD Landcruisers have the space for the pedals...they were designed for it. Lada Niva...RHD Nivas require ballet shoes be worn by the driver since the wheel well would normally be for LHD passenger with no pedals.
What a brilliant car. You cold say it has plenty presence and very practical off road on a farm but still useful on it.. I can imagine one of these all 'blinged out' driving the kids to school in a very affluent part of a city somewhere but getting the kids into a booster seats could have some comedic value as well.
You definitely get a variety of vehicles on hubnut, it's why it appeals to me, well that and twk,Ellie and more recently Desmond is proving to be a little star
Anyone remember channel 4 in the 90's when they used to show the Icelandic EXTREME hill climb championships ?? usually there would be in the course at least one section whereby they had to negotiate a small lake going flat out to try and get the big paddle tyres to skim the surface of the water , and hopefully reach the other side before foreward motion ran out and downward motion took over !! 700 hp plus on a class one vehicle , that's throbbidge
The next review should be a comparison against the smart fourtwo single (short) person camper conversion with the front passenger seat removed. It has been done & They are just as hilarious. The review item I missed for the land cruiser was the race between first gear low ratio idle & a pedestrian (like the farmers feeding the sheep jumping out of the running tractor & walking behind shovelling the animal feed out the back as the tractor slowly traverses the field all by itself)
They’ve dropped the V8 diesel on current versions. I’ve got a spare engine, auto transmission and transfer box that would fit that, not far away. My engine is the 1HD FT-E with 200hp, rather more than when fitted at the factory to 70 series which may have been indirect injection non turbo at some stage of production.
@@commentmachine1 They are using the 2.8 four cylinder diesel now, I believe. The same engine as used in the current HiLux and recently introduced Land Cruiser [250 series].
That’s really a wonderful vehicle. Go anywhere? Absolutely Stop for the night when you get there? Of course. Shame about the LHD, but at least the Km clocks issue is solved.
In Australia these are popular in the outback as "tray backs". In fact in language a car is referred to as a Toyota as the British used to referred to a vacuum cleaner as a Hoover. However all is not perfect when the V8 diesel came in they kept the low gearing which makes long distance travel painful with very poor fuel consumption. One of the other problems is a very poor ride on rough roads. In Australia its almost impossible to modify a vehicle so desired lift kit and bigger wheels is a no no.
A Landcruiser is the obvious choice for a farmer in Wales (or anywhere, in fact) but those wheels are ... Icelandic. A few years ago I somehow ended up watching Icelandic off-road motoring competitions. The hill climbing involves going up scree that increases in angle until it goes past the vertical, into overhang. Sometimes they get over it, more often they fall back down the hill (these are purpose designed buggies). But the thing that really got me is the official Icelandic way of crossing a pool: back up, hurtle towards the water and aquaplane to the other side. After this, I realised that Bjork's* initial success at home was due to her girl-next-door charm. * sorry, don't know how to do an umlaut.
Is that tank attached to the back door really pink or was it red and very sun bleached? Given the utterly bonkers nature of the truck I'm going with Pink 😂
Good grief Penfold. That's a chunky bit of kit. Wouldn't fancy trying to push start that if the battery got a bit iffy. Having said that, if it ever met a stray boulder in the middle of a country (mountain?) lane, I wouldn't give much for the boulder's chances of survival. 😄
The «better» folks in my neighbourhood doing their groceries with Mercedes G-Models with 6.3 V8 engines. So, there is not a huge difference of silliness between this Japanese tool and their German toys…
I was in Iceland last year and got a ride in one of the big brothers to this, based on a Sprinter van but with completely reworked chassis and suspension. Also had a tire inflation/deflation system - it could run at 5psi to go over 2m thick snow. You can see it briefly in a video I did here: ua-cam.com/video/w-zjy7E5w4w/v-deo.htmlsi=sJ9Bk8nbJOu80xTJ&t=362
A Toyota Land Cruiser 70 series what a beast especially this one and in Australia these are North of aud $75000 and you think they would be rare totally wrong and now they come with a 2.7 litre 4 cylinder turbo diesel the did come with a V8 turbo diesel definitely not a speed machine there is a Australian you tuber who is saving one of these 70 series and l do like any you tube video with any Toyota and the Toyota Hilux 4X4 uses the same engine as the 70 series and the Troopy is common also the 70 series are common in Australia despite mm more expensive than some Tesla's and they will last so much longer than any EV which dies justify the high price of the 70 series

Oh my, even the landlord has a HubNut worthy vehicle!
I had a series Landrover with a Cummins 12 valve under the bonnet when I lived in Iceland best truck I’ve ever had
Cor!

That would pull any trailer tent anywhere 😊
Lovely sounds from the engine and you won't be bullied on the road in that 👌👍🇮🇪
Would love a Troopy! A V8 78 in Sandy Taupe 🤤

This is Classic Hubnut - a wacky vehicle and Ian's encyclopaedic knowledge of every car! 🤩
According to Jasper Carrott, Birmingham City FC bought one to take the crowd home in at the end of the match!

An excellent roadtest Ian and Carly, imagine seeing that pull up to you behind in the rear view mirror.

Fantastic video Mr HubNut fantastic well done
Wow. Oversize me. Great video. The last shot of big vs small is hilarious!
Can see that climbing mountains in Iceland with no problems
Great video. Can tell you had fun with this one.

Betty loves the go go juice, this beast yards per gallon.
@4:42 Like a gazelle, A slow, arthritic gazelle 🤣
Wow that's a big motor. Think Miss Hubnut might have need a step ladder. Great video as ever. Thanks
Classic Hubnuttery. Wonderful stuff!
I ❤ land cruisers. Great video.
You definitely get a variety of vehicles on hubnut, it's why it appeals to me, well that and twk,Ellie and more recently Desmond is proving to be a little star
Watching miss hubnut getting in will be the highlight of the year
Good gravy it's bloody enormous
Driving a 2nd floor flat 😆
What a monster wouldn't fancy changing a tyre 😂. We done Miss HubNut getting in. You will have to do another video when it's finished in the back.
I recognised the Bongo Auto Free Top straight away!
Looks very capable off-road vehicle, and indestructable as usual for Toyota :)
I have been in one of these in Iceland, they are awesome.
That vehicle is what I dread, at every very tight blind bend .
Lovely Big LandCruiser. Had to chuckle at your trembling lip
"Designed for some of the most hostile terrain on the planet", perfect vehicle for The Classic Motor Show in Birmingham.👍
Top quality vehicle. Delicious sound from that 1hz. 👍

Makes Miss HubNut seem even smaller. Thanks for sharing 😊 👍
Utterly bonkers love it

That's a shame.
It really isn’t. They were the slowest most anemic V8 this side of a malaise era GM V8.

Future hubnut fleet member!
Another cracking video 😊

Blimey!
Can you see the pub from up there?
It's a full size Tonka toy!
Nice 4x4
another great video has always Ian and Carly miss/mrs hubnut and hublets and hubmutt 👍
I thought we might see some green lane action in that beast. Has it got a snorkel? You could have forged a river! 😂
Yes, it has a snorkel. Has been quite useful with all the storms we've had...

At last, a proper vehicle on the channel😂😂
That is indeed a bit of a beast! 😅
that's f**king awesome!!!
You should definitely do a Junior version of this to the Pajero. 😁
That’s a reassuring Clunk of the back doors

I wouldn't mind a Land Cruiser Amazon that i think has the same diesel engine
LandCruiser. The best car in the world. Fact.
It really isn't i am a Land Rover fan but will admit the Land Cruiser merits but there are many many better cars
It depends where in the world you are .
A favourite of UN Peacekeepers and Islamic terrorists
According to James May, the landcruiset saved Toyota.
Saying. In austrailia if you want to drive out to the outback, you drive landrover, if you want to drive back out, drive a land cruiser.
That's a serious bit of kit, daily driving it must be pretty interesting. What seats is he using, are those from a Range Rover?
They are indeed.
NOW THAT'S WHAT YOU CALL A CAR
Looks like the sort of thing you need experience in mountaineering just to get into... :P
AY UP MR AND MRS HUBNUT

Literally OTT.
Have you driven a Toyota FJ Cruiser?
Sadly not. There are a few about.
Troopys are so cool, why are 4x4 pickup based vans not a thing anymore
You look so tiny next to that car! 😅
Nice "knobblies". Wall-climbers.

If this were in Amerika, the front bumper would be a girder. BTW, real bug out vehicles have compressed air starting. #CME
'Reminds me of being on the tube'. Mind the gap.
Iceland spec …. Designed for driving to the supermarket
😍

I’ve got a 150 series Land Cruiser. Positively tame compared to this!
Greelane it

She must prefer Farmfoods to Iceland. 🤣
