The feeling of insecurity or not being good enough. This song is so relatable in so many scenarios is the reason why people I feel really gravitate towards this song. A classic!

"I don't care if it hurts, I want the perfect body I want the perfect soul". Thom Yorke was born with a severe lazy eye - his eye would hardly open. He endured many painful operations😢 growing up but back then they were unable to fix it and it still doesn't fully open. He went to a private boys school and never fitted in with the other boys being artistic and musical - you can imagine how he was made to feel with a slight disfigurement. He has a nice face anyway and the eye thing gives an interesting unique look kind of like having a small scar❤️ it didn't hold him back that's for sure! This song is such a classic so many people can identify with feeling different and out of place when young and Thom always has the ability to put so much emotion in his voice.
This is the story behind this song according to this young lady that knew it" Sofia 1 year ago (edited) He wrote this song about a crush (I mean he was completely in love) he had in college, she was the most beautiful girl and he felt he was too ugly for her, like out of her league, so one day he got a little bit tipsy to have confidence and confess but she got scared of him and run. Later when this song got popular and they did a concert for mtv or something, that girl went and he got so emotional and kinda cried, his vocal wasn't the best in that concert but for a lot of people that was the best performance because of the emotions he transmitted
I was the same, only I'm not famous one day at a meeting we all drank alcohol and got drunk and I confessed to her what I felt and because of what my friends told me she just laughed
This song is about a girl at university who Thom liked but she never noticed him. Apparently years later she turned up to a Radiohead concert, Thom heard she was there and was so nervous bye the way this the first time they played it Radiohead - Creep (Reading 1994 is the best video)
This song was inspired by Thom's (the singer) obsession with a stranger. He was infatuated with a woman who was out of his league, who he'd never met but frequently saw in bars, and he found himself following her around. When he finally got himself drunk enough to build up the courage to confess his obsession, she freaked out. He felt like a "creep" and a "weirdo" and felt like he wasn't good looking enough or good enough for her. Technically though I don't think anyone is out of anyone's league. Love is love

It’s feeling inadequate, probably most people can relate too.❤ You being beautiful, most guys are probably feeling this way towards you, knowing you’re out of their reach.😢
Great point. We have so many scary 3rd world Asian people living in Canada now that it’s a culture shock for me. We aren’t supposed to be racist but they have definitely shown reverse discrimination to me.
Amazing. No matter what reaction I observe to this song, everyone has a blank expression on their face. The essence of the song is not about him considering himself garbage, but rather that she is perfect and no matter what he does or how he looks, he will be unworthy of her. It's not about his low self-esteem, it's about her being the ideal.
If you are truly honest with yourself, this song touches the dark, lonely parts of your heart and soul that you really don't want anyone to see... except for that one special person who will see you, love you, and accept you despite... yourself.

Yea this isnt real complicated. He is secretly in love with a girl he sees as perfect. Too perfect to love him back. She is an angel. He feels he is a creep. The line " I want you to notice when I'm not around" says it all :(
This is the song that put Radiohead on the map. They have many other great songs too:High and Dry, Fake Plastic Trees, Karma Police, Paranoid Android, etc...
Yeah so this is kinda like alternative rock/ grunge college radio rock music from the early 90s , I think from 1992 if I'm not mistaken, I heard this song before , it's kinda of a deep song, in my opinion it's a bit complicated but quite poetic.
The story I heard about this song is, the singer followed another college student. He tried to gather the nerve to talk to her, but didn't. I also heard the Lady he wrote this song about... went to a Radiohead show.
Not everyone. She is one of the persons who will never feel it as she will never experience it in her life. Some people will never ever know what this is like ever.

Oh yeah, and also, it's more or less just a song about someone feeling insecure. I mean songs have been written about that forever but this was kind of in a more modern feeling, but I would say an earlier version of this that is still quite modern would be that post-punk band called The Offspring, and it's I think either from their first album or maybe it's their third album, but it's early on. It was one of their early hits and they went on to have several more, and it's a song called, Self-esteem. This is totally 90s music and I love this band, although they weren't all that great live, but they were incredible in the studio: m.ua-cam.com/video/EtNZnhxWLHo/v-deo.html And this was an early hit about a guy that doesn't have much self-esteem and he's just telling you that directly, and he lets this girl that he's head over heels with get to him and she uses him whenever she needs him and then throws hum away and all that. And it's a bit melodramatic but it's really fun. So Radiohead had this massive hit with this song Creep a bit later in time, which kind of captures the same feeling; it just does it in this ethereal and haunting way, which I feel gets a bit lost in this super up-tempo live version of it.
What Thom Yorke and Jonnie Greenwood made was masterpieces of their time. Was not my time. I'm over 50 right now. But I know what honest music sounds like...
To make it simple....he's singing about falling for a girl that doesn't even notice he's there. Very impactful song!!! The pain of not being accepted the way you are!!!! 🎶🎼🎵🎸🥁🎧🎹🎤🎙
She does notice he's there and that is the crux of the song. She notices him basically stalking her and puts him down by calling him a creep and a weirdo before heading off. The rest of what you say is correct.
Thom Yorke was a skinny kid, and he had several operations on one of his eyes leaving him with a drooping eyelid...he was bullied in high school etc. and didn't have great self esteem. Apparently he had an infatuation with this girl when he was in college, and this song is based on that. This would become their most well known and requested song, and Thom Yorke would grow to dislike it, didn't want the band to be known as a "one hit wonder" and would at one point swear at people at a concert when they kept requesting it.
It's difficult for you to understand the depth of feeling in the song, because you would be on the other side of the story of the singer. You would be the special person for being beautiful and unreachable.
He sees somebody special, even perfect, that he wants. He has these thoughts or visions of being with her; giving her anything she wants. But he himself sees himself as a creep...a weirdo. He doesn't even belong there, much less being able to get the girl.

What the hell am I doin' here?

What the hell am I doin' here?
