DAVAO CITY and Cebu city are like the metropolitan city in the national capital region. Both are highly urbanized cities, and both are susceptible to PANDEMIC SURGE like any cities. If your purpose in living in the PHILIPPINES 🇵🇭 is for retirement, I suggest you chose a place like city or province which are not that CONGESTED LIKE THESE TWO CITY! you can't appreciate or even relax in your retirement time in such place.
My father lived in Davao for 15 years had a family fathered a child at 73 years old so I have a Filipino half brother he's 13 now unfortunately my father passed away in early 2020 at the age of 84 he's buried in a Davao cemetery. I'm coming out later in the year I've been to Davao back in 2016 to visit my Dad and his new family. I'm planning on retirement in Davao in two years I'll be 62. I also have a uncle that lives in Cebu he's 80 this year. Anyway thanks 😊
Hey, Gio! I agree with Kona Ranger, below. I'm going to be semi-retiring soon at the age of 63 and will be going to visit the Philippines around the end of the summer this year (God willing). I say semi-retire because I have skills and professional licences that allow me to wok online, and still make 3 times my vested Soc Sec check will be at 66, just maintaining a minimal 10 hour work week. I'd be a fool to EVER give that up. But, Your channel has been so very helpful. I'm not devoted to any one particular Island or city. I just want the Holy Grail location of the Philippines, like everybody else does...beautiful, safe, LEAST prone to earthquakes, typhoons, and internet outages, least crime, inexpensive, friendly and engaging people, beautiful Filipina's, etc. Your experiences are real and and are documented in video for all to see, instead of maybe being favorably biased towards a particular location because your woman lives there or you're trying to attract more foreigners to your location. In fact, you're exactly the opposite of that, which is greatly appreciated. I, too, have a feeling our paths may cross someday. Stay safe! Btw, I can't believe they're that strict on masks, even though you're alone and outdoors, though. :)
Thank You very much Gio, I am also deciding where to live. Your contents is so helpful to me. Going to retire there soon in the (PI) My wife is from So Leyte. Been in Hawaii and CA, the USA is getting very unfavorable. Soon to retire, I own you a Big dinner someday! Keep up the great work! Wife sister lives in Davao I really enjoyed it..
Hi Gio, great video good content and advice. I’m not far from you in General Santos City, not been to Daveo yet but plan to soon. From what I have herd it’s quite good depending of cause what lifestyle you want to lead.
I'm in Chicago flights are expensive to all the cities in Philippines except Manila. Is it cheaper to fly to Manila and explore a bit then fly to various town or just fly directly to the towns I want to visit? Also im muslim i love night market, wet markets and day markets that has many mosque. Where or what neighborhood should I be looking at to find a airbnb?
Happy New Year, Gio. So now you're in Davao, Congratulations, sorry you went through so much with the Typhoon but you seem happier . Is there more wind and rain in Davao then most other cities? Im a single bachelor in Los Angeles and already packed to go back to the Philippines. My g.f. and I split after 46 months recently now i'd like to arrive in Davao and settle myself down there. I've stayed in boring Marinduque for 2 months twice and twice in Tacloban, another major YAWN of a city. Now listening to your description of Davao City thats sounds better - couple of malls, coffee shops, museums , is my speed plus other outdoor activities. I don't drink, so bars for me is not my thing. Thanks for your insight through the years and I wish you continued good health and good fortune. Ciao
I lived several years in Davao and there's lots to explore there but I did get bored with it and it doesn't have an international airport (except 1 weekly flight I think). Cebu is a much better option for a bachelor and a great launch pad for smaller island hops like Dumaguate, Camotes, Bohol
Hey Gio my dear friend, Davao City is really awesome. I definitely plan to visit there. I thought about living in Davao City, but I really still want to check out Mactan Newtown first. But I will definitely visit Davao City whenever I can get back to the Philippines. Gio, there are beautiful women all over the Philippines, but you know that. Thank you for sharing this awesome video. Please stay safe and healthy, and God bless you always my dear friend.😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Interesting video Gio, I’ve only been to Davao once, and did find it very spread out, and the malls quite far apart. I saw far less foreigner/ Filipino relationship, particularly age gap. I enjoyed the bone museum, if you haven’t been there yet, it’s worth a look. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Most of the malls are on the same street so not that far apart: Gaisano, Victoria Plaza, Abreeza, SM Lanang. But the problem with that is it makes for lots of traffic congestion at times
Gio great video. This is information I need because as soon as tourists travel opens or my SRRV visa happens I will travel to Phil. I have never been in the Philippines before so all information is good. I’m leaning more towards Mindanao because like a lot of people I will be on a budget when I get there. Maybe more benefit for my money. Thanks it’s good information.
Happy New Year Gio,, thanks for sharing,, Davao is on my bucket list,,, I have only heard positive things about it 👌… Looking forward to your accommodation vlogs Stay safe…🍻🍻
Well my best friend built a house and lived in Davao for 15 years, he said it was one of the safest cities in the PI. Unfortunately he's back in the US and been told his neurological issues are terminal.
Safest cities in Philippines? They have lots of bombing in Davao City back in 2016, and they have a history of bombing in the city and around the city.
I was there in 2017. I can see why its the safest city, Military and Police carrying automatic weapons are everywhere , it makes me a bit nervous. Davao is too strict and it seemed less friendly. I traveled to several cities in Mindanao outside of Davao and found people very helpful and friendly and I never felt unsafe. I just did not like the Vibe in Davao.
There have been some terrorist type incidents in Davao like bombing at the shopping malls and kidnapping and assassinations of foreigners on Samal Island
I want to eventually make Mactan/Cebu my home-base but I'm really thinking about staying 6 months to a year in Iloilo since my girlfriend is from there. I actually think staying 6 months to a year in different cities will help me decide were I want to eventually retire for good, time will tell.
Hey Gio, Great video.. What's the flight costs back to Cebu and Manila from Davao, and can you make the reservations within a few days before leaving? I'm coming this summer and have 23 days to adventure as a single guy. How would you use 23 days to travel about. I would first stay in Manila for 5 days then move. Thanks for any advice. Peace..
Cebu is like manila it attracts people from other provinces like Davao looking for better life and also attracts more foreigners like you reason its getting more congested.
you can see clearly whats the best place to live...cebu was ravage by typhoon lately and the whole visayas is a super highway of most of typhoons coming in the philippines...but davao is rarely hit of any typhoons..food is cheap in mindanao compared to any place in the philippines..
You're only in Davao because of the typhoon in Cebu Gio. You'll be back in Cebu pretty soon. Davao is not bad although a bit isolated geographically and culturally.
What made cebu city congested is their small land area .unwide streets compare to davao can accomodate as many as people or foreigners will go and visit there.
Hello, I want to travel to the Philippines for 4 months to improve my English. I'm Colombian. My question is, between CeBu and Davao, which city do you recommend is the city to improve and practice my conversational English, additionally if one is cheaper than another in terms of rent and services, if you can help me with your answer I would greatly appreciate it!🐶🙏
Davao is largest in terms of land with 2444km2 with approx 1,800,000 people. I like Puerto Princesa 2381km2 with 307,000 people. More safe travels to nature locations to visit in Palawan.
When you do the condo videos please include if parking is included or not. After you have bounced around a bit please do a video on the safety situation driving around and exploring.
How are they effected by typhoons and hurricanes? From the last typhoon, neither look too good. At the moment we are in central Luzon and to move anywhere else would be on the west cost as the Philippines East coast is constantly being hit by Typhoons and Hurricanes. You can build a house to withstand these storms, however the infrastructure fails. All the Islands are a Paradise when the weather is good, It's whether you want to put up with all the destruction every time a Hurricane and typhoon hit. The possibilities are always there, for me, I would not want to take the risk.
Do not live in visayas as massive rain is dangerous, Mindanao is a big volcano figure as it was protected by green mountains and the center are now cities.
Puerto Princessa the capital of Palawan where the airport is. There’s also an airport north in Coron and a private one in El Nido. Been to Davao twice and Samal Island. Stayed a couple of nights at the Pearl Farm the premium resort in Davao Area. Marco Polo or Seda is a good hotel in Davao City.
Hey Gio, I’ve decided to apply for the SRRV Classic with Pension. $10,000 in Philippines bank, $1400 application fee, $360 yearly fee. That doesn’t bother me as much as how complicated it is when you apply from the US. I have to add an “Apostille” to the medical report, the police clearance, etc. They certainly don’t make it easy, but with the EED, I should be allowed into the Philippines to complete the SRRV process. Please stop talking about the rents in Cebu and Davao! It kills me each time I hear it. I’m going to pay at least P100K in BGC! You make me feel like I’m getting ripped off! LOL
put your patience cap on for the SRRV, however, if you make sure you follow the guidance and requirements, you will eventually get your EED. Then you have to apply for the visa, so it takes time but it works. Problem is virus, short staffing, mail delays etc...hang tough..
I’m still trying to decide where to live once I can get there. I’m a disabled US veteran, so I’ll need to be able to get to the VA clinic in Manila every few months to get medications. I’m not sure if living in or near Manila will be best, or if I can make it work in a place like Cebu, Dumaguete or Davao. The flights and ferries are cheap, but if a full lockdown happens again I would be hurting if my meds ran out.
Cebu is a compromise over Manila then especially since it does have an international airport. Another option would be in the Clark/Angeles area, again with a good airport
I have been to Cebu city once, will never go again incredible traffic and pollution not my cup of tea i like smaller cities. I am now chatting to a girl from Iligan city we will have our first date in Davao once i am in the Philippines we agreed.
@@GiointhePhilippines Davao City is the center of Davao Region and Capital of Mindanao it's a metro Davao the largest City of the Philippines and one of the largest City in the world.
Davao is the best Number one safest city in the whole wide world ... that is why Davao life is here.. than cebu Full of bad elements People To much Hold upper And tulisan
I like Davao better than Cebu for one reason is U can kind of pick your life style. U can live on the main Hi Way next to a mall in a Cond or on back streets in a Filipino neighborhood that seem almost like living in the province with not another expat around. I get more attention here because they don't see as many western men. When U compared condos U didn't mention that U R s in Cebu was discounted. Less ex-pats here so fewer vacancies
Dear guest. Do not expect davao is full of night life and get laid, places like this is very few and hidden. Mindanao is for agriculture to provide visayas and luzon some veggies and fruits and naturally, Mindanao is very cheap in agri products

Nice job! Your style has matured. Interesting content and comments.

I am glad you are moving around the Philippines and highlighting areas, Nice you will be only be in Davao for a month and on to a new area.
which city has the better internet also do you experience brownouts and or blackouts if so how long on average.

Hmmm , how to say this nicely ??? The further AWAY you get your girlfriend from her family ,the more likely your relationship will succeed
Mactan is in the Lapu-Lapu area and good for airport but much better living in Cebu City with mo many amenities and rental options
iloilo is a good option.. not as wonderful than of cebu but the city of iloilo is beautiful.
Thanks 🙏🏻 for the videos Gio 👍🏻. I always heard the southern islands of Phils is dangerous for Americans? What have you experienced?
I've been in davao city for over 4 years no trouble but if you're looking for trouble you will find it

I believe milkteas are more popular than coffeee in Cebu so that's where people spend most of there money on.
Gio is your condo furnished or unfurnished? Thanks for the update. This more or less confirms my impression from afar (I'm still in the US)
Cebu is the best, im from davao but i will transfer to cebu soon in naga city
are you from australia mate ?
Keep safe Gio hope to see you here in Davao
Yes, that would be great
I like the cooking in Davao better than Cebu they use better spices. They have Durian and I like that one too
Watching from Ireland,Davao is nice 👍🌹 the roads is not tight.most important is safety....

One of the nicer cities that I found in the Philippines is porta-princessa

LOL
You can rent for $700 a month in BGC
put your patience cap on for the SRRV, however, if you make sure you follow the guidance and requirements, you will eventually get your EED. Then you have to apply for the visa, so it takes time but it works. Problem is virus, short staffing, mail delays etc...hang tough..
Where is BGC ?
100k? Why?
@@ronr6347 BGC -Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, City, Metro Manila
I think your one of the best blogger there I heard there are a lot of Muslims there be careful po
Can you drink the water in Davao?
Nowhere in the Philippines should you drink tap water, always drink bottle water.
@@GiointhePhilippines thanks
Davao City water has been categorized as the world's second best water. Yes, clean water for decades and you can drink it directly from faucet.
Since we're young been drinking tap water in Davao and now I'm already 39 and the rest of my 7 siblings but we're still fine. 😅😊

Mindanao is an island. Davao is a city located on the island of Mindanao.
@@GiointhePhilippines Davao City is the center of Davao Region and Capital of Mindanao it's a metro Davao the largest City of the Philippines and one of the largest City in the world.
@@OnilMarteNavarroza Not only in Mindanao it's the largest City in the Philippines and one of the biggest City in the world.

The 2 cities I want to explore, my only issue I will need to get around with a bicycle or walk, as I don't ride a motorbike
I can see and hear you.

Not The Vow !
Dear guest. Do not expect davao is full of night life and get laid, places like this is very few and hidden. Mindanao is for agriculture to provide visayas and luzon some veggies and fruits and naturally, Mindanao is very cheap in agri products
What about electric bikes in the Philippines?
i have never seen one but good idea
Tom and Ruth Philippine Adventures use two electric bikes and they discuss them from time to time.
