  • Elvis Presley Unchained Melody.Elvis recorded at Rushmore Civic Center in Rapid City, South Dakota, on June 21, 1977. Written by :Hy Zaret and Alex North
Lyrics: Oh, my love, my darling
I've hungered for your touch, a long lonely time
Time goes by, so slowly and time can do so much
    Are you still mine?
I need your love, I need your love
God, speed your love to me
Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea
Lonely rivers cry, wait for me, wait for me
I’ll be coming home, wait for me
    Oh my love, my darling
I've hungered for your touch, a long lonely time
I need your love, I need your love
God, speed your love, to me

I legit broke into tears when they played this scene at the end of Elvis (2022). He was literally on the verge of death, but you wouldn’t have known because of his voice. It’s as if this performance was his final farewell to the world and no one knew it at the time.

Same here, just watched it a few hours ago in IMAX (it was otherworldly) and I’d managed to keep it together for the whole film up until this part which had me in floods of tears. You can really tell that despite his poor health, he put everything he had left into that performance, it’s so powerful and moving it touches your soul. It breaks my heart that he lived feeling he hadn’t done enough or lived up to his full potential; and yet decades later, his legacy lives on, we still celebrate him and his music and now have this gorgeous film to memorialise him. I hope that if there is a heaven/afterlife, he knows how much his fans (including new generations) still love him and his work ❤️

I'll say it a million times though, as good as the Righteous Brothers performed this song, nobody performed it better than Elvis.

@@Steveo_j8 I know, it’s puzzling! I call it circus music, it’s such throw away garbage. No idea what goes through the mind of an average teenager now. In my time musicianship was respected and we saw great artists emerging. I really don’t think any music being made now will be remembered the same way as Elvis, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin etc. I could list dozens of amazing artists and bands but where are their modern equivalents? Kids are influenced by garbage now, look at the ridiculous scenario that emerged from the Prime craze! They’re not really interested in the substance, it’s just the craze attached to it. The “music” they’re listening to is the same, it’s not about whether the artist is any good, it’s about the sensationalism surrounding them. Here today gone tomorrow throw away trash for the dumb and dumber! They actually haven’t a clue what talent actually is. Look at the biggest charlatan on the planet Kanye West, the loud mouthed idiot has screamed so much about his “talent” that even people who supposedly know about music are saying he’s a genius. They should be ashamed of themselves, idiots! When you look up videos of him “creating” in the studio it’s laughable to watch him sittting with his little toys pushing buttons and stitching presets together, I mean come on! Elvis blows these clowns out of the water!

A performance that is nothing short of haunting, and completely captivating even 45 years later. At the 4:00 minute mark of this video, the camera cuts to a young woman in the audience. Her eyes are trained on the king. She's perched in rapt silence, index finger pinched between her partially open mouth. In that moment, nothing on Earth mattered to her but this song and the man who sang it with everything his soul had left to offer. This was Elvis, and this was the genuine impact he had on generations of fans, encapsulated in the visage of one unnamed fan for eternity.

When you realize the context of this performance it makes it so much more emotional. This was his performance in the last few weeks of his life, where the years of drugs and being trapped in an 8 year sentence of tirelessly performing high energy shows night-after-night in the same venue...for EIGHT YEARS. 80 shows year-after-year, the opportunity of bringing his talent across the world started fading, he was falling apart quickly and still miraculously withdrew that incredible, larger than life performance deep from within him. After such a tragic final chapter of such a legendary life, he delivered one final masterpiece as a ribbon to tie up one of the most prolific music careers.

Even more so, his ability to sing at such a high level despite his state. Elvis defined a generation of music and basically invented music as we know it today. And to have his amazing career end on this song of all songs is something written straight out of a novel. Truly amazing performer and a true talent.
