Beautiful. I appreciate the English version even though I like the Japanese equally. My favorite part is her phrasing is very exacting and her voice is POWERFUL. Some singers of this tend to whisper it....and that''s a fine interpretation of the song but I like my Suteki Da Ne GRAND AND LOUD, not whispered.
@FenixDown83 i totally agree, considering this was the first time i had heard the song. this song was what actually inspired me to play the entire game (yes, i'm behind and i'm sure people will give me sass for admitting it too.)
this is better than the japanese version. but this is an orchestral version. and she is singing for an orchestra. which is probably why many would like it more. the original japanese is a japanese (okinawa) style, not very familiar to the ears of most people. me included.
the original is a traditional japenese song style version where theres much vibrato. it works well for its version. for this one its better on susan for its western orchestra version.
@Walladreyn I think you don't necessarily need to understand the lyrics to enjoy the mood set by the tone of the singer's voice according to your personal taste
I don't think she's singing it badly, it's just the lyrics are so incredibly awkward that I don't think it'd sound all that great in English regardless of who was singing it. She does have a gorgeous voice.
i love how the majority of the people who say "OH MY GOD THE JAPANESE VERSION IS BETTER" probably don't even speak japanese outside of the word "konnichiwa"
I don't know...I'm a pretty big FFX fan, and I much prefer this over the Japanese version because understanding the words goes a long way to feeling the song. The emotion is there with Susan Calloway, so it just works. That being said, the lyrics don't detract from the game one bit, but I'd prefer they localize the songs as well if they can. I never understood why some developers insist on keeping the songs in original Japanese when localizing to English. Just pay a singer to translate. It really wouldn't be that hard. I detract. This is a great version.
i prefer the japanese version. i can feel more emotion and a sad atmosphere that kinda makes me cry..but, this one is good too..though i feel more lighter in this version..
At times, I feel like she sounds a bit "broadway" or disney, like when she sang Melodies of Life. But I can see why Uematsu chose her. She reminds me of Risa Ohki from Final Fantasy Pray. Susan should have sang Once You Meet Her and Theme of Love too. It's perfect for her voice. Anyway, she owned english Suteki da Ne.
Susan Calloway is awesome, but i have to say any FFX fan would say the japanese version is far superior. Nonetheless, Susan Calloway's FF14 Answers is spectacularly jaw dropping.
Finally an excellent non-squealy, non-overly-kawaii singer performing this song. The only thing that kept me off of this tune was the original vocalist, who sounded way too close to a toy duck. Calloway does an amazing job at this.
I prefer this version compared to the Japanese, gives me goosebumps everytime. It's nice to hear the song in a language I understand. I'm sure others can agree on both parts.
i was here for this concert, i really enjoyed her version but everyone chastises me for that, saying the original is better. people generally like the first version they experience better... but i agree that her pronounciation of suteki da ne is horrible, lol.
Rikki's voice is better fit for this song. Susan has a great, powerful, strong vocal. She's awesome in Answers. This song to me, however, needs gentle, whimsical, and softer tone, which Rikki is much, much better fit. Hence, I think why a lot of people like the Japanese better for this song. And Rikki doesn't have ducky voice, nor is she "overly kawaii" xD WTH?
I really do love Susan C's interpretation of these great songs but she must do something about her distracting hand movements that seem like she is pounding her thighs or other strange stuff. She is amazing though.
are you guys serious? japanese is better? Music is about the feelings that flow within! This made me cry, since I felt what she was singing. Therefore I approve this song as perfectly sung.
Umm yea i just heard the Japanese version live and she sounds awful. Her vocals compared to Susan.. are u serious.. u ppl really truly believe the Japanese version is better? You need your ears checked.
is everyone racist here? everyone just seems to say the "original japanese" is better... do you guys just make bias judgement with no sense of musicality in you? do you guys learn music at all?
I love all of the songs that Susan Calloway is singing. Thanks for posting them.
what a wonderful voice..i'm so envious!!
Oh her voice is amazing ❤❤❤❤😭😭😭
Her voice is amazing
Watching this in LA on Sept 10th. Can't wait to hear her live!

can we all agree that both versions are great

I'm not going to miss anything about Chicago when I move... Except that I'll miss the Distant World's tour dates here. -Whimper-
@Spartanll7x I was on the lodestone and I saw some people talking about but I can't find the damn thing for the life of me!

she's great, no doubt about it, but i prefer the Japanese version better...it's has an entire different emotion and feel to it.

Distant Worlds London in 11 Days! :D

@dhsu Lol She sounds like she said TeeteeTEE.
What was going on at 3:54? Did she just come in early?
No, I tried... but the Japanese version is the only one for me.
I swear... i thought she said "New York City" @ around 1:30 lol..

Lol this comment is fun to read after she did the masterpiece that is “answers”

As good as this version is, I feel the lyrics could have been adapted better. Other than that, it's brilliant.

They should have included this in the FFX HD Remaster (I was never fond of Rikku's version)

The only good thing about this version is that it is in English... omg, she destroys the song!
I really do love Susan C's interpretation of these great songs but she must do something about her distracting hand movements that seem like she is pounding her thighs or other strange stuff. She is amazing though.

i don't get why some people are saying the japanese one is better, for me they are the same only with the english i can understand it.
Umm yea i just heard the Japanese version live and she sounds awful. Her vocals compared to Susan.. are u serious.. u ppl really truly believe the Japanese version is better? You need your ears checked.
She is too fast
Switch to Japanese on this song.
is everyone racist here? everyone just seems to say the "original japanese" is better... do you guys just make bias judgement with no sense of musicality in you? do you guys learn music at all?
god this is awful
