- Hey everyone! I'm talking about decorative pillow ideas! Pillows, toss cushions... Whatever you call them, they're kind of a must-have when it comes time to complete the look of your living room. It's part of accessorizing. Also... Do you chop your pillows?? My thoughts on this topic a little later on... So many of my clients have a slightly panicked look on their faces when I bring up pillows so let's get some things right out in the open...

Let’s talk form over function. The former is the emphasis in this video. Okay, a lot of pillows together may look pretty and introduce spark to a room. But, sofas and chairs are for people to sit on in comfort. There has to be room to accommodate that. One pillow behind each person is useful. If there are more than 3 on a sofa, for instance, how do the sitters deal with the excess pillows? Ditto on a bed. The pile of decorative pillows has to have its own resting spot when it is time to get into bed. Ask a guest who has to politely honor the stack when their personal items need to occupy horizontal surfaces in the room. Do they pitch pillows on the floor? Well, you get my point.

She makes some good points about size and filling, but that’s where we part company. I design pillows and think of them as small pieces of art. I don’t limit myself to placing them just on sofas and beds; to me, art fits anywhere. And I don’t think of my floors as “the ground”; my carpets are vacuumed every day, and I love placing pillows of all sizes around my rooms. They aren’t out of place on my bookshelves and side tables.

Love your channel. My design dillema is my living room where fireplace is off centered and there are so many pathways needed. My symmetry loving mind can not figure out how to place furniture around it. Any idea?

I was excited to check the suggested websites for inserts, but they were ALL for bed pillows. Where do you go to purchase reasonably priced inserts?

Nice tutorial, I learned what material to use as an insert and why... I like the chop method but have a 150 year old house so Why Bother it gets to the floor anyway... LOL

Question....... I’m so confused as to what size insert is best...... same size insert as pillow or bigger insert?
Can you share some stores or brands that sell 5% vs 30% down inserts? Since watching this super, awesome helpful video I’ve gone to Homegoods and could only find 100% polyester decorative pillows. Now I’m looking online at Crate & Barrel, where I can only find 95/5 feather/down, and West Elm is only listing inserts as “100% feather down” (so 70/3 or 95/5 for $18.50?)
Any more general buying tips would be appreciated even if you don’t name specific companies! Anyway, you’re lovely and these tips were fabulous, have a wonderful day 🤗🏠

How do you coordinate pillows on sofa AND chairs that are in the same room? I can't find any videos on this
I have a huge french bakers rack and don't know how to decorate it.
I chop if feather/down. No chop on others.

Thank you, Olga, for another helpful video. I do have a design dilemma that I’d love to have your help with. We have a large great room with a seating area in front of a fireplace (90” sofa flanked by two side chairs; one upholstered and one leather with a round coffee table in front of all). The other area is a dining table with four side chairs. My 3-part dilemma is rugs beneath these two areas. We love rugs, but it seems that to place a rug beneath each of these areas will 1) cover our gorgeous wood floors, 2) cause a hassle when cleaning/vacuuming, and 3) cause the potential for the rugs to not lay flat beneath the furniture. By not having rugs, are we breaking all the design rules? Are my three concerns invalid? Is my great room design incomplete without two area rugs? Help please!

I checked out your two links for down feather alternatives thinking these were going to be links for down feather inserts for throw pillows. Do you have a good link for a down feather alternative insert for throw pillows? Looking for something that looks full, can be washed, and can be "chopped."

I think that filling your pillows with down feathers is very inhumane. Otherwise, the video was very informative.
