Exactly the video I needed, thank you! For example, I've been trying to do the assymetrical thing so your tips about it are super useful. I might also try the large frame with a tiny image idea, and also mix and match frames. Fun fun fun!
Going back to the off-kilter look. Picture off-center in the kitchen. I like it. Also, cool idea with picture being hung on the bookcase. Unexpected.. Love that too.
Love your videos. Precise and to the point. Easy to apply no matter what the budget. I am an artist so here is my advise about matting and framing : Oils and Acrylics on canvas do not have to be Matted or Framed ( although fa frame around the canvas is quite fine.) because the work is permanent after it dries. Watercolors , pencil , reproductions/ prints , photos etc are not so permanent. They need to be matted and framed. Its not just for looks. The mat acts as a buffer between the image and the glass. Therefor moisture in the air will not ruin you art or cause it to buckle. Especially in the Kitchen and Bathroom. Just a rule of thumb - Artwork/ Photos should not touch the glass .
Olga.. Not only are your ideas fab... You look so pretty.. In this video.. Nd i love your openness about usng our own.. Ideas in our space Concept rocks.. Thx Olga for that little changes.. Which make us Style our own space in Special ways..
This is such a good video, I will admit I was expecting this to be one of those videos where you don’t really learn anything new because most of the videos like this are, but I was very wrong. Thanks.
You're really shining lately! You pick amazing examples and don't just gloss over them. (It doesn't hurt that my style seems to match yours--I don't think there's a single photo I wouldn't have picked and would stop to study.) Well done, keep it up! Love the mild music, your enunciation, and the restraint in editing. You're very watchable AND know your stuff. You have much to offer... I'm going to go back and make sure I haven't missed watching and liking your previous content. Please keep teaching us principles, and please resist following the latest trendy topics others seem to all jump on. We need TIMELESS info on design principles! p.s. Where in Canada are you based?
I’m a minimalist, so displaying art is vitally important to warm up a room. I purchase prints of art I love, like John Singer Sargent’s “Lady Agnew of Lochnaw” and “Fumée d'ambre gris”, get them as canvas rather than posters, and frame them appropriately. I usually go to Michael’s when their frames are 70-80% off. For $180 ($80 for the canvas print, $100 for the frame), I have a gorgeous piece of art to enjoy.
Thank you! I took a certification program for interior decorating, but this wasn't discussed and quite informative! Makes me want to take down my pictures and start over some. LOL
Just found your channel - impressive and so applicable to us average gals who desperately need guidance we can understand and apply to our homes. Where have you been? BLESSED to have found you... Will be studying your videos and may be contacting you for a consultation! You have a relaxing and inviting manner, and make me feel empowered!
I loved the video and I agree with all the tips apart from tip #1. Crafts, designs or objects we happen to love are not real art. I love homes where people display real/original art expressing feelings emotions and ideas, telling the story of the tenents. I don't know how to explain it better, English is not my language. It doesn't need to be expensive pieces or the artist to be famous. There are so many young artists from around the globe on the internet.
Thank you for this video! Great tips as usual. I'm looking for a design lesson....Spindles! What works with what design style? Horizontal isn't to code although I like the look and it's pretty trendy We can't decide on glass or iron or even in Iron which look would go with the rest of the house. And I like wood but I've been told wood is.....out
Great content.. I will be in cooperating some of those styles. Just painted my house and was waiting for this video aha to help me with my wall displays. Thanks
Hi Olga. I recently found you and have subscribed for your videos. I really like your clear, straightforward approach, and that you provide lots of education and suggestions!!! In this video on Styling Your Home With Art, I particularly liked the section on placing art in unexpected places. There is something fresh about that. Just to add to your great ideas, I have a canvas on a door at the end of a short hall and also in my laundry room to hide the ugly water taps on the wall above the washer. ... I am also thinking of placing 2 small arts on the wall just above my dog's water and food bowls. How crazy is that? :)
Love the video so much.I have a very small empty wall and love the idea of small table with vase and a hanging piece of art.I also have a big wall over the sofa and want to hang 2 floating shelves. What are the rules.Thank you
I have so many different artworks, mainly relativly large pieces in differen sizes, some are original, some not. But all have quite classic but different frames. I find it very hard to group those art works on one wall ... any tipps? Thank you
When you hang art in a bedroom on a bare wall do you center on the wall without consideration to the furniture on the side wall. In my case the bed with a night table are on one wall. So do you center from the front of the night stand and the corner or just on the bare wall?
I would like to display pictures of the kids and grandkids in my hallway. Can I use a picture ledge? How wide does the hallway need to be in order to use it as a gallery?
In your professional experience, what do you do in places where it is a large wall, but it is impractical to have a peice of furniture below the art on the wall? For example, I have a narrow entrance with a large blank wall and would like to hang a peice of art, but a credenza below it would stick out and constantly be bumped into. Who wants to enter a home and bump into a credenza? Not me. But I would like a piece of art.
Great question... If there's no room for a credenza then art is a must! Just place the art using the rule mentioned here (no furniture underneath) in this video: ua-cam.com/video/8u2_4sI0eZ4/v-deo.html. It's right around the 3:21 timestamp. Thanks for the question! And good luck!

I ve been loving every one of your videos, could you please do a video on how n where to place plants.
Thanks for watching! I'll add that to my list of topics!!
Tips for renters too, please. I can't install floating shelves or hang big art that needs wall studs.

Love your tips & leaning art has a nice effect. But not a good idea to just lean stuff here on the west coast were earth quakes are possible. 😉
Great point! Move to the west coast? LOL... Just kidding. Both sides have great qualities! Thanks for watching.
I have some unframed acrylic pieces and some framed b&w photographs. Can I put these all together? Do I have to frame my artwork?
Excellent video, thank so much!

Love your suggestion. Thank you

As a man I prefer carvings made from wood as art. Japanese and Chinese culture use them alot

I would love for you to make a video for us on ideas of decorating the home for Autumn, Thanksgiving time?
Definitely!! It's coming tomorrow! :)
Thanks much
I have a crazy wall with an asymmetrical ceiling line!
Sometimes it's ok to just ignore that crazy ceiling line! Focus on the artwork instead! :)
Can I lay canvas against the wall over my fireplace? I used wall adhesive hangables but they did not hold.
I love leaning artwork on the wall. Even over a fireplace! Go for it!

How can I hang art inside my bookcase
Do we really puddle the drapes? I absolutely hate that.
When do we get to meet Art?
LOL... this made me actually laugh out loud. Thank you.
@@Designchickee You are welcome! Great videos...but I could not resist.
