- Axial AX 24 gets an upgrade by DOWNSIZING the stock tire compound to the smaller rock lizards and gets a little extra weight down low with treal beadlock wheels!
Adding brass and lowering it did it for me and I think you should name your original coarse river road 😊

For me getting mine down low and adding some brass was key. I also tightened the servo savers as well. I have been experimenting with tires also. I just tried some bigger ones from little guys racing with some weighted wheels and man this thing is a beast now. It could use some better servos and more power but everything else is great.
Yeah I’m not gonna lie these little things are cool and have a lot of potential. Excited to drop in two reefs 99s in here and get weight down low.
The problem with the ax 24 is its frame. I dumped a komoto brushless with a lizard esc in mine. The big one. Didnt know there was a a micro komoto. Anyhow. It took a bunch of frame removal to get it to work. The stock radio is very nice, but going brushless means a new radio. Get a fly sky gt5. It has a built in crawling menue.fwd, 4wd, crab, and rear steer. Best radio going for crawling. Receivers are like $5. Radio is like $75.
My ax runs without a body as theres no way to put a body on it. I call it lunar rover.
Now heres what you should do guy and gals. Put a front axil on the back your fav scx 24, get a gt5, go brushless. Then its just normal upgrades. It will cost you less than modding the ax.well not counting the brushless system, but to be honest going brushless is the way to go hands down.
I second the brushless set up. I think it’s necessary if you want to take crawling serious.

I changed my wheels out maybe halfway through the first battery after receiving line shortly after their release. All I had was Amazon special aluminum beadlocks and a folder set of shorter hyrax clones, the vehicle performed better than any of my other 24's for some reason with the slightly smaller tire and felt like it had quite a bit more power. Did not run into too many clearance issues especially with super sticky tires
I’m still struggling to enjoy this thing. I did put on some shorter shocks and noticed it doesn’t tip as much. Going to add some brass soon. I also installed the injora 050 motor and like that better.
Axial's Brass skid plate at 19 grams really lowers COG on this truck too. Under $20 .
I think I’m gonna get that in the future for sure. Unfortunately tho I just don’t use this rig too often tho

With those smaller (and heavier) wheels it drives better and it looks better. But those jumpy dampers need to go, the things shakes all the time. And once it gets that new motor (MoFo RC I assume) it will be a completely different beast.
I’ll be experimenting around with how to control these floppy shocks. Just going with an injora brushed motor next. Then when furitek comes out with a combo for this I’ll be putting one of those in. For servos most likely dual reefs 99s 🤝
