Very helpful. I have the same ball joint separator kit. 71 retired lineman diyer trying to save some money. Do all my own maintenance and repairs on family's vehicles
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It is a very nice trick. I have a 1999 Camry, and was not sure if the "bolts" connecting the flanges were actually bolts or the kind of studs in your video. Other mechanics used an air chisel to push out the studs. But I don't have such kind of air tools, so I was thinking to just live with the leak and noise from the flange. Couldn't find anywhere where it is stated for the 99 Camry if bolts or studs were used for flange connection, and I knew if it were studs being used, I would have a problem. I know that is where the leak is on my car by spraying soap water there, and using a shop vac in reverse to blow air backwards through the exhaust, and observing the nice patch of bubbles that show up at the flange. Now I have a method of how to press out the studs (if in fact the 99 Camry is using studs) with your trick. No need to live with the noise. I am now well armed to attempt the DIY job. Thanks again for sharing.

What about if you used an impact wrench? Seems like that would make it easier and the movement would help break rust.
EDIT: Using an impact wrench worked instantly to push these out with this ball joint separator set. Bought a corded one for 80$ from harbor freight and took a couple seconds to push it out.
True. Most people don't have that tool. So I try to use what most folks have from my results.
@@FixingWithPassion I bought a corded impact wrench for 80$ from harbor freight, was saving a ton of money by doing the work myself so could justify it. I ended up buying this ball joint separator tool set you used with the impact wrench and it came off almost instantly and my studs and nuts were seized BAD.
Thanks for the video though as it gave me the idea to try it and didn't want to torch next to my gas tank.

You can usually "borrow" those from an auto parts store. I think they are usually associated with tie rod puller kits

Dont do this to your exhaust just buy a hand torch with map gas and get it red hot melt some wax on it flash it with cold water to chill fast , reheat pound it out... DONE
Good luck with that. Wax is a waste of time. Makes you think your really accomplishment something. Been there done that to many times....but it has no effect. Or just drill it out!

@FixingWithPassion You never got it hot enough then you want it glowing red and you have to cool it Fast , It is Expansion and contraction it is science I have done thousands that way it's even faster with a air hammer and heat ,, if you don't have a air hammer you have to brace the exhaust , I would drill it before I'd ever recommend that people slit the manifold
