A brilliant song by George! The younger generation is losing contact with the Beatles. They should allow more reviews.
The crosswalk is on a street called Abbey Road, it's right near their EMI recording studio.

Finally, Paul and John allowed George to have a song. Very rarely did those two great writers, share the writing efforts with anyone else, except occasionally a song or two for George or Ringo. This man can write and sing. His post Beatle days proved that George should have gotten more time on the albums with The Beatles.
    Thanks Shawn

Although it is true that in the end George was John's and Paul's equal as a composer, he wasn't always . He even stated he wasn't and learned. His classic album, All Things Must Pass, should have had its debut (most of the songs) on Abbey Road. George turned out to be an all time composer.

@@TangoEliott Yeah, that's the usual story. Nobody talks about how accepting the rest of the band were (and whatever recording company suits had to sign off on it) in agreeing to have George's east Indian ragas on the albums. Interesting as they were, they weren't exactly commercial. Also, remember some of George's limited song quota was wasted on rather throwaway songs like 'Only a Northern Song'. Filler like that doesn't really argue for giving him more album slots. Also, was anything preventing George from recording a solo album before the Beatles dissolved? I'm tired of hearing whining about how George was so hard done by.

the beatles were rare in many ways including the fact that all 4 members were allowed to sing on each album. (except "a hard day's night" ringo had no song to sing.) they basically had 4 lead singers. i always found it odd how john and george wrote "cry for a shadow" together very early on but john decided to make paul his writing partner. the reality is ALL 4 beatles and even mal evans made contributions to every beatle recording. suggesting lyrics, tempo and arrangements. george martin suggested arrangements as well. the beatles success was due to all the members of the band. remove one elemant and you no longer have the beatles!

This is their most streamed song, and Something is the most popular love song of all time, claimed by musicians like Elvis, Frank Sinatra, and billions of fans. The "zebra stripe" crossing Abbey Road in front of the studios is just about 2 blocks from one of McCartney's homes, making him the one always ready to be in the studio, he lived walking distance the others picked estates in the burbs.

The album photo was taken on Abbey Road, in front of what was then known as EMI Studios, where The Beatles recorded virtually all their music, and since renamed Abbey Road Studios. It remains ax extremely popular and legendary recording facility. The zebra crossing itself was moved a few yards or so from its original location. I walked across it in the summer of 1981. 😊

Ringo admitted that he didn't really understand what George told him...he just knew how to play it, and pounded out on his knee the beat to demonstrate how HE counted it. And as you said here, Ringo played really well! He is a very natural drummer.

Abbey Road was their last real album. It was a must have in my senior year. Much of their stuff up to that point had been dark and ominous and cynical, at least some of John's songs. The Beatles realized that they were enormously influential and needed to record something that was upbeat and hopeful. Leave it to George. HCTS had that effect and it still does with me all these years later

The Beatles originally intended to name the LP 'Everest' and planned to have a photoshoot in front of Mount Everest for the album cover. Apparently, they were not too keen on traveling such a distance and eventually ran short on time. I believe it was Ringo who said, 'Screw it, let's just take a picture out front and call the album Abbey Road'.
Fun fact: the studio was known simply as 'EMI Studios' during the entire recording career of The Beatles. In 1976, the name of the studio was changed in recognition of the album.

From my first introduction to The Beatles, by my brother with the let It be album, George was always my favorite Beatle. As I grew up I grew to appreciate John's intelligence and lyric writing as well as Paul 's beautiful voice and lyrics. But still, George is the most spiritual and enlightened of The Beatles. And he proved his talent on his own after their breakup.

At the time when print media ruled, you needed to get your photo on a widely distributed printed publication. Life Magazine was cool with best photographers. Rolling Stone magazine as celebrated in song. Time Magazine had its person of the year. For UK aspiring artists, it was Radio Times to be on. Album covers were a big deal. Packaging is an important part of marketing.
It became cool to be a photographer as a profession as in the song "Kodachrome".
The most fun Beatle's cover would have to be for the album "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" with its various figures on the cover.
From 60's up to through the early 80's vinyl records were the main way to enjoy music. Next was audio cassette tape path for me because they were more practical and you just had to use them gently in good players. Plus one could easily record audio on blank tapes to create shows which I did a couple of tapes. My first video tape playback was reel tape in college produced by an English class professor for after lecture reviews and study. I have used film projectors as well. .

It still amazes me to think that in 1968, this song didn't exist. It's the same with all Beatles songs - they're so big a part of modern culture that the simple idea that there was a time when no-one had heard them seems impossible. This and "Something" are two George Harrison classics from this album. The street is still called Abbey Road (hence the album title), and the crossing is right outside the recording studio where the Beatles' albums were made - and it's a major attraction in London. For Ringo at his finest, try the Beatles song "Rain".

You may or may not know that there is a rumor that Paul died and was replaced with someone who very closely resembled him. Conspiracy theory stuff. Great photo art on its own merits, but many think it's the Beatles poking fun at the rumor/conspiracy theory that Paul McCartney died and was replaced by a look-alike. It can be looked at as a funeral procession with John, a clergyman/spiritual leader in white, Ringo in black as a funeral director, barefoot Paul as the corpse, and George in work clothes as the grave digger. Also the license plate on the VW bug in the background is 28if - the age he'd be if he had just died.

Ringo and John were 28. Paul had just turned 27

There's a great music video for this song that the band released just a few years back. I would heartily encourage you to check it out. It would be cool to see you do it on this channel, but if you can't, certainly do it for yourself. 😊

Shawn, you should watch the movie Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. It is based on the music from the album and stars some of rocks greats who perform the albums songs (it's a musical). Bee Gees, Peter Frampton, Billy Preston, Alice Cooper, Tina Turner, and Aerosmith all perform in it. George Burns, Steve Martin, Keith Carradine, Lied Garret, Connie Stevens, Wolfman Jack, Helen Reddy, Carol Channing, Peter Noone, Nona Hendrix, Steven Bishop, Peter Allen all make appearances.

Watch their film Magical Mystery Tour. It's deeply influenced by drugs. John sort of mispronounced George like "Geolge" in a funny scene. The film includes Strawberry Fields, I Am The Walrus and other goodies 🪄🧙‍♂️🔮

I love this song by the Beatles, but I think the best version of this song is by Richie Havens; it’s perfection.

One of the few songs where I don't recommend the video. It has great visuals, but it uses the 2019 remix. That remix sounds a little too produced to me, especially at the bridge and after. I think the mix use here is from 2009, when sounds great!

don't be fooled. this song is actually about hate, destruction and greed disguised as a happy song about hope. just kidding. i prefer this song to george's over-hyped other contribution to "abbey road" "something." "something" is ok. its not a horrible song but "here comes the sun" just exudes joy and positivism. an excellent way to start off side 2 of the album. thanks for the video.

It is terrible the way the Beatles estate or record companies block. Self-defeating, and cheats their fans.

A band where Harrison is the 3rd most talented shouldn't be possible. I don't like people who don't like the Beatles.
