It's pretty damn rare to find a franchise so sincere, Yakuza somehow is both a gritty crime drama that can bring you to tears one moment and inflict full bellied laughter at its insanity the next. Is it fair to say Yakuza is Sega's best franchise? Certainly feels that way these days. Good review as always.
It probably Is! I mean, It's such a fun blend of silly and Japanese oriented gangster movie with a bunch of over the top martial arts. So happy we finally get this spin off here, In the west.

The stutters have been pretty consistent for me too it's on the specials and also when I try to parry for the first few times after starting the game up

Regarding the "Like a Dragon" name confusion. You probably already know that is what the series is called in the east, "Yakuza" in the west. They announced that going forward that "Like a Dragon" would be the series name for all regions going forward.
its not renamed like the turn based combat, its named more accuretly to the source name, yakuza is a title they slapped cause they dident though people would understand "like a dragon/Ryū ga Gotoku" and its more what to expect from the series being alot of stuff related to the yakuza world, but the series was always called like a dragon.
"Ishin returns to a time it wasn't as good of a series" is a literally false statement. It was made during the best moments of the franchise, just in between 5 and 0
Just finished this game last night and gotta say it's up there with my favorites of the series. The Yakuza/LaD games aren't for everyone, but they just hit me the right way. I can't wait for Gaiden later this year and LaD 8 next year.
As a huge fan of the Yakuza franchise and Samurai, this game is right up my alley. Like A Dragon Ishin combines two things that I absolutely love and it succeeds for the most part. I can't wait to play it. Thanks once again, Karak!
It's a trade-off of gaining popularity. Once it does, it has to conform to "modern standards" and streamline and lose elements that made it, which it has. It's moved on from a adaption of a crime novel to something of it's own, gameplay and tone.
I love it. The gun and sword style is so much fun. It's not quite yakuza kiwami 2 or 0 but better then 3, 4 and pretty much on par with five or fist of Northstar spinoff. My order 0,kiwami 2, kiwami,5 inshin, fist of Northstar, yakuza 7, yakuza 6, yakuza 4, yakuza 3. All great games. Literally 3 I'd give a 7 so they all score between 7-9. All ranked between kiwami to yakuza 6 are a 8 and order can change on my mood. 2 worst and 2 best are on different tiers.
Like a dragons design is such a throwback, (this game was made before yakuza 5 originally iirc) reminds me sort of how the smackdown career mode worked... i really want RGG to make a wrestling game and a sonic adventure game

Since I'm not a graphics buff this looks fine for me. Looks like a Yakuza game through and through. If there are no bugs or glitches I'd have no complains on that department. And I don't really care about voice acting in most games, I can read just fine.
SO much FOMO for this game right now, but there are just too many $60 and $70 purchases I'm gonna have to make in the coming months. I'll have to pick it up later.
I originally Pre-ordered but then with psvr2, star wars, and re4 I changed my mind. Gonna play the OG series first and pick this up on Black Friday for 50% off. Can always count on RGG games for $30 during the holidays.
I highly recommend any Yakuza fans to get this obviously, and for any action fans, fans of cool, complicated storylines with lots of little twists and to rpg fans who enjoy more active combat akin to kingdom hearts, FF 7 RE, FF 15, or Kingdoms of Avalor: Reckoning styles of combat. This is all to say if you give any Yakuza game a fair chance which means don't base on time, but maybe say I'll play this game till chapter 2 will discover a wonderful new game series that will give you dozens if not hundreds of hours of fun combat and stories to experience and explore. I thought these games looked dumb back in the Ps2 era, then my first Yakuza game was Yakuza: Like A Dragon which 💯% completed which I rarely attempt to do, I love it that much so give these games a chance and I bet most of ya will come out of it with a ❤ for this series!!
I love the game when it first came out, however I was not proficient with Japanese at that time I could not fully understand the story, So glad it has locallize translation now. Definitely going to buy it.

I have been a Yakuza fan since the PS2 days. Beat every game and all spin off's that were released in America. This is one of the few games that never got translated and released in America. It's finally here, I been waiting a decade 😃
I dont think this is an alternate reality. If I remember right from reading the wiki, this is set however many years before the mainline yakuza series, and these characters are supposed to be the ancestors, to the characters that we know.

I just wanna comment any game that does star Ichiban will still be turned based. All others will be beat em ups. Like a Dragon: Gaiden is coming out which is turned based starring Kiryu(Joryu) which is a beat em up
Hitting the nail on its head, as usual. I wasn't even aware that this game is a remake till I saw the first moaners on steam. Besides the different scenery, it's a Yakuza game as we know and love it. It's no fully fledged Remake as Dead Space, but it's on par with Kiwami 1 & 2 despite the change to the Unreal Engine. I just wish they'd revamped the combat system, compared to later titles like Yakuza 0 or the Judgment titles, it feels out of place and a bit too retro. The pre-Meiji era time line makes for an interesting and welcome change.
So far at least, but my Xbox reset and I redownloaded the original cuz it's smaller and it's pretty much the same game to the point my kids just thought I lost my save data and can't tell they're different games.
The art style kind of reminds me of the Ninja Gaiden xbox game from the early 2000's, so was this originally from around the same time? NG had me hooked with just the frenetic pace of it and I can kind of see why this one didn't take off even if this had more rpg style stuff in it.
My biggest complaint about recent Sega releases is that they have Denuvo. Everybody hates that, rightfully so, and doing it is just an insult to your customers.

This series is so interesting because everyone's list of best to worst is different. Mine is 0,k2,7,k1,5,6,4,3. And I love fist of the north star.
The history buff in me loves that it takes place during the Bakumutsu period.

Tosa and Kyo map is beautiful. Edo period Japan is beautiful cultures. My ancestor is upper class samurai and part of the daimyo's family.
the only yakuza games i ever need is kiwami 1 and 2 the rest to me is just unnecessary it's barely evolved since kiwami 2 anyway

Not a "Remake", its a "Remaster". You shouldn't mix these two. Mixing these terms helps companies overprice their remaster.
