you say some stutters what does that mean because you said dead space remake ran smooth as butter and yet when i played it there where near unplayable amounts of traversal stutter so is this even worse than dead space i have an rtx 4090 and the rest of my pc is also top tier and i get no stutter in other games

I am VERY pleasantly shocked that this game is actually even remotely good. What this team accomplished with the adversity they faced throughout the process. My hats off to them!
Since the early eurojanks like gothic, I think 8 were justified and the best there is. Like don't let perfection be the burden of good, as underneath all its shortcomings comes a great game.
LOVE how they switch up the environment and artstyle. I hear reviewers giving it a hard time for "not settling on an art style" lol. Oh boy. Just cant please these guys. They complain about recycled assets and places looking the same, then when a DEV switches things up and gives a ton of variety it's a problem. I always appreciate your reviews ACG. Thanks! They really need an FOV slider patched into PC quick though.
ACG is one of my go-to reviewers and didn't disappoint me here. GameSpot gave this a measly 6 and I'm like, it can't be that bad. They said they hated the protagonist and the story is very weak. I'm thinking some are giving it poor reviews because of the whole Russia thing. I'm gonna play on Gamepass anyway so it wasn't a BIG deal if it was bad. Now I can go in knowing what I learned here. An honest review of the game. Thanks ACG for what you do.
They're not that far off. Itd give it a 7-7.5. The game has many issues, some basic issues considering the caliber they're trying to emulate. But it is doing many things right. The protagonist and the *delivering* of the story being among the issues. Still recommend it tho
I feel that the protagonist sucks and story is weak. I played it for 3 hrs and had to delete it from my Xbox. Glad I didn’t pay for it cuz I would be pissed. The only thing it has going for it is the robot designs. That’s it

@@warallied I mean, the story is mostly copied from Bioshock. Like, literally. They took so many things from that game in a shameless way. Nobody says that you shouldn't inspire yourself from other pieces of art or movies or games or something. And nobody says that you should use those sources of inspiration by a small margin. You can do it more if you want. But not too much as then it becomes copying. This game barely had any original ideas. Look at streamers that played it. Sooo many pointed out how much of a copy-pasta the game is. So many elements from Bioshock taken away like they didn't even care. And not only Bioshock. Some elements ripped off from Fallout and a few from Prey. I assure you that most people that enjoyed the story and didn't see anything wrong didn't play Bioshock before. And you can see that from what people say in the reviews, some stating they don't even know about Bioshock. Game is not bad, but putting it higher than 6.5-7 is just an exaggeration and a rating that is not well-deserved. At least it is their first game, so it could get to a 7.5 maybe. But they had lots of Russian blood-stained money, so they at least could've done a bit more to make it better.

The Hogwarts Legacy review is kind of what put me off him tbh. I bought it based on his recommendation only to find that after the first hour or so the game basically turns into...generic Ubisoft open world #44.

I’m 6 hours into this game, and floored by how amazing the game is. Getting over 100fps on my 3080 with 4K DLSS quality, and haven’t had any performance issues. I can’t believe this is a first time developer. Looking forward to what they come up with next.
I have to eat my words here, I’m happy they pulled through. Thought this game would never release and pretty faithful to the trailers they kept releasing for the last ten years.
This all sounds like wonderfully up my alley. I've been following the game's development from the very first trailer, but never really had the confidence to pre-purchase it, as I couldn't trust the devs' capabilities, and wasn't sure about the exact type of game it's going to be. To my surprise, this is exactly what I expected it to be. With the flaws and all. I'm definitely buying this ASAP - when I get back from vacation

As a huge fan of eastern European aesthetics with the Soviet Bus Stops book on my nightstand, this is absolutely breathtaking. If all else than the world design sucks, I'm still in anyway.
I don't know why so many people in these comments are bringing up the whole "games good despite it having flaws." No game is without it's flaws. So what point are y'all even making?

@girayne I know Mick Gordon is donating his fee to the Australian Red Cross relief for Ukraine but idk if the Russian gov is getting any of the money this game makes. I wouldn't doubt it, though.
Been playing for almost three hours now and so far I am in love.. the graphics are absolutely astounding, music is exceptional and the gameplay is fun. Enjoying the main character personally and the over-all asthetic is beautiful. My only nit-pick really now is some control button placement issues and the fact if I try to walk slowly he will strangely make the action as if it he was running in place.. a strange over sight which will be patched surely soon.
The weirdness of the world is what appealed to me in the trailers, I'm glad the end result doesn't let it down. I put it on my list, thank you for the review.

Its fun as hell. Some people say enemies to tanky but what people don't realize. Most enemies are FREAKIN ROBOTS MADE OF FREAKIN METAL they ain't gonna be some soft sponge.
Really looking forward to jumping in this one. As a huge Bioshock and Prey fan, this of course was right up my alley. The environments are absolutely stunning. As a 3d game artist myself, I am going to crawl through this game for inspiration. It's sad to 'hear' that the sound design isn't up to snuff. That is something I would have thought they nailed, based on the quality of the environments around the player. Thank you for an awesome review as always.
Big fan of bioshock and prey as well and having gamepass this game just jumped the pipeline list - maybe wait for 1 patch but the world looks incredible!
Yea It was a title amalgamating from the bioshock title, in an atompunk and Russian brutalism aesthetic of a technologically progressive USSR IE: how they design their impractical abandoned megaprojects
As a huge fan of the Bioshock series I am glad to see something similar come out. Even though different than Bioshock (as noted in the video) it is nice to see.
So this released on my bday and don't pre-order as a rule but was tempted with this. About 11pm I saw your review go live and read BUY, watched 5 minutes and bought it. Been absolutely loving it so far, though I'm glad that first complex section wasn't any longer. Love the humour, the art style, and goddam those 2 tall robots at the start with the wreaths on their head are the sexiest robots I've ever seen... But I digress. Quite amused how polarising it seems to be on metacritic. I think some reviewers really forget about playing games for fun and take the critical part way too seriously. I'm loving my time with it and mad impressed with the polish for what is essentially a AA studio game. To each their own ofcourse, but just stoked to find a reviewer I agree with more often than not, love ya work bud.

Great review. You're one of the only reviewers I've seen appreciates the title for what makes it authentic. It's not always required that a title be ground breaking or innovative
A game can be as authentic all it wants and good looking, but that does not make up for the poor mechanics this game has. Go watch Skill ups review and you will see what I mean.

Thanks for reviewing the game for what it is, and not for how close to Bioshock it is. I felt like you really understood what they were going for, unlike many reviews. You mention Stalker, Metro and Bioshock - recognizing that it's not just a copy of any one thing. I haven't played the game, but your review more closely matches the vibe I was getting. Some reviewers dinged the game for being too long, at 20 hours, and here you are with 40 hours. That shows other people were trying to rush the game just to get the review out. They didn't stop to engage with the game, and it shows in their reviews.
Good to see so many Buys come out this year, forspoken not included. Not a good thing for my wallet during a recession, but its a good sign for the industry
Get gamepass for 1$ for one month and beat this game and plenty others and you can cancel immediately after you sign up and still get the month. That way it doesn’t automatically charge you next month. I think you can keep creating new accounts and getting the 1$ deal if it’s still a thing.
Some reviewers have expectations, and their review is essentially how close the game got to their expectations. Others, like ACG, judge the game on its own merits.

I wasn't following the coverage for this game at all, so when I pulled up your video and you started talking about immersive sims and Prey I got SO EXCITED And then you put the disclaimer on the screen saying this is "not an immersive sim" and you have no idea how much my heart broke. Prey was so incredible and it's such a shame so many people skipped it. Every day since playing that game I've been waiting for another immersive sim on that level to come out.
It's fascinating how two reviewers I follow have drastically different opinions on this game. Although it doesn't make it easy for me to make up my mind on wether I should buy the game now or not.

I very rarely buy anything full price or directly at release. I figure I'll wait for a sale and a few months of patches but do want to throw myself into this world eventually. Its weird listening to reviewers complain about how stale games have gotten but critize this game as well. I would rather support a dev team that is bring something new even if it's not perfect.
What game doesn’t have problems and when did polish become a high watermark standard. 1. Enjoyable ✅ 2. Imagination ✅ 3. Sounds like winner ✅ 4. Script ✅ 5. Only fail you played it on PC. Not sure why the minor problems are even a thought but good on you for making it part of your review. Probably why I keep coming back.
Best reviewer, I appreciate how indepth amd honest your reviews are. Games are just so expensive, and its nice to know I have a reliable reviewer who hasn't steered me wrong.
Comprehensive can also mean convoluted or drawn out. ACG reviews are OK but I find they're usually too bogged with micro details and unnecessary observations rather than focusing purely on the quality and enjoyment of the game.
Gotten to the stage where I can't consider a game unless I watch one of your reviews first! Your opinion and views can be trusted unlike so many of the main gaming media outlets. Never stop doing your thing man! You're an essential part of the gaming community :-)
Both this and Hogwarts are super impressive to me, even if they aren’t technically the best games ever made. Both “first time” developers with beautiful, well realized worlds and excellent gameplay
I'm enjoying this game and am more compelled by it than any new IP in years. Why some want to take points away for a lack of polish or a cheesy line I'm more than happy to awards many more for the world, story, tone, everything it's just amazing, I love it
SkillUp is not recommending this. I’ve found that is often a barometer to me that I will love it. You sir tend to be very in tune with what I like. So when SkillUp says no and you say yes. Well that’s just perfection for me. So you can count me in! 👍👍👍

You have to understand, SkillUp grew up on an island with the worst internet on the planet. He authentically loves games. He’s just one of the kids that was ‘good’ at Halo 2 because he could beat it on legendary, solo. But he would still be worthless on your team in matchmaking. Anyway, point is that affects how he experiences a lot of these games. That’s clearly why he never reviewed Sekiro _or_ Bloodborne. Ralph has obviously never beaten them.
house sitting for my brother this week and he has an xbox so i started it today as its on game pass... i've had an absolute blast. i've heard a ton of complaints about the dialogue and was expecting the absolute worst but it isnt remotely as bad/annoying as people made it out to be. This is the start to a very bright future for the developers
I just finished it myself, absolute BLAST. The fact that you can straight up dismantle upgraded items and get ALL OF THE RESOURCES BACK?! It encouraged me to complete the dungeons and mess with different combat styles. The music blew me away the same way, if not a little more, that doom did. That carbonara remix had me SHOOK.

This game is so, so impressive. And you are the only reviewer on the internet that was able to put into words exactly what I feel about it. I'm baffled by other reviewers not being able to see how incredible the game is in so many areas, especially as the first game released by this studio. They nailed so much.
This is one of the most optimized games I have played on PC in a long time. Ryzen 5900x, 32gb RAM and a 3080. It runs at 165fps (my monitor cap) at 1440p with DLSS on quality and all settings max and rarely drops below that. The only thing I have noticed is enemies will have a very low frame rate sometimes. Otherwise it's been fantasticly smooth.
I'm on a 4090, and at max settings with dlss quality at 4k resolution i'm hitting the frame cap of 300. Weirdly enough though, when I enable frame gen, my fps actually goes down to 250ish. Must be some kind of bug or something because otherwise I should be up to 600fps 😂. I've got 0 clue why frame gen is hurting my frames
And raw fps no dlss I'm getting about 200-225 fps. This is all indoors though btw, which is probably less performance intensive. But either way I'm impressed that I can do that at 4k in general. Not even doom eternal was this optimized. Then again, doom eternal had ray tracing available. Ray tracing isn't out yet on atomic heart. I bet when this game gets ray tracing support it's gonna absolutely tank fps. It's kinda weird how the devs said frame gen was for helping fix fps issues with denuvo and the game in general....but there's absolutely 0 performance issues. Like, none. And frame gen is 40 series exclusive so again why would they even bother mentioning it?
I like this game alot. The music! OMG its good! I do wish there was a flashlight. Because some of the Testing grounds are way to dark. But other then that its tons of fun. Oooow and Nora hahahahahah the dialogue is awesome. 🤣 Her vulgar tone is perfect. 🤭
I am from eastern Europe myself and I knew that our guys not the best in game development. That's why I was very very skeptical about this game, but right now I feel proud as hell. Can't wait to play it, I have feeling that I'll love it just as much as Metro and Stalker!!!

You're such a massively loved gem dude - it must feel awesome reading your comments. People comment primarily on how good you are and THEN the game itself
All due respect I felt this review focused a bit too heavily on the intangible aspects of the game rather that the more concrete mechanical aspects players should know about. For example, a good deal of the run time was dedicated to discussing how the opening scenes elicit certain emotions as you play through it unlike other games have. Or how walking into a lab experiment made you wonder what atrocities took place here. These things are nice to know, but not all players will even stop to notice or care about these things at all. However, they will notice things like a complete lack of FOV slider, forced mouse acceleration, or the lack of a sprint button in a first-person shooter. These things were never discussed at all here from what I recall. I think in future these are the sort of things ppl need to know about more so than those intangible aspects mentioned earlier. Just my thoughts tho still love your reviews 👍
Bit dissapointed that you didn't talk about all the controversy around the game and the lack of transparency from Mundfish, which could be a deal breaker for many people. Also, unlike Bioshock, Prey, STALKER and Metro, the game isn't available DRM free and you might run into some issues with Denuvo.
Definitely checking this one out. After picking up and devouring every inch and corner of Prey I've been craving another similar experience. Great review as always.
A new Bioshock game is in the works. Also Ghost games (ex Bioshock devs and Ken Levine) are making a game called Judas, basically a Bioshock-like game.
I'm having a blast with this game. The open sections with a bunch of cameras calling down endless streams of enemies weren't quite as good as the claustrophobic laboratories of the start but still really enjoying it!
I'm picking up my pre-order from Best Buy tomorrow, along with Wanted: Dead. I have a few friends that were not sure of this game, sent the link to this review, now they are buying the digital version.

Hey ACG! Biggest thing I'm concerned with for this game is that, in the Bioshock series, they portray the ideas and themes they present as undesirable extremes and how societies built on them can be extremely flawed. Given that Atomic Heart is presenting Communism and Soviet Russia in very positive (at least initially) lights, and given that a significant amount of funding for the game came from Russian companies and investors, I'm wondering if this game likewise presents those things as extreme and excessive, or if it still presents them very positively "if only it wasn't for this one outside element that breaks it down" kind of thing. Propaganda, essentially. I didn't see you touch at all on this (though maybe the comparisons to Bioshock are self-explanatory), so just wondering how it came off to you. Thanks for the review, man!

Whether I'll enjoy the game or not, I cant deny that the artstyle and setting is top notch.
That's for sure. It is very unique.
It does look impressive, and I can already tell the quality of the voice actors is definitely on display from those bits at the end.

I’m 6 hours into this game, and floored by how amazing the game is. Getting over 100fps on my 3080 with 4K DLSS quality, and haven’t had any performance issues. I can’t believe this is a first time developer. Looking forward to what they come up with next.

This all sounds like wonderfully up my alley. I've been following the game's development from the very first trailer, but never really had the confidence to pre-purchase it, as I couldn't trust the devs' capabilities, and wasn't sure about the exact type of game it's going to be.
To my surprise, this is exactly what I expected it to be. With the flaws and all.

Actually not needed. I can play it at 1440p Ultra on my 2060 at 50-55 FPS, it's optimized pretty well.

Been playing for almost three hours now and so far I am in love.. the graphics are absolutely astounding, music is exceptional and the gameplay is fun. Enjoying the main character personally and the over-all asthetic is beautiful.
My only nit-pick really now is some control button placement issues and the fact if I try to walk slowly he will strangely make the action as if it he was running in place.. a strange over sight which will be patched surely soon.

Its fun as hell. Some people say enemies to tanky but what people don't realize. Most enemies are FREAKIN ROBOTS MADE OF FREAKIN METAL they ain't gonna be some soft sponge.
Really looking forward to jumping in this one. As a huge Bioshock and Prey fan, this of course was right up my alley. The environments are absolutely stunning. As a 3d game artist myself, I am going to crawl through this game for inspiration. It's sad to 'hear' that the sound design isn't up to snuff. That is something I would have thought they nailed, based on the quality of the environments around the player. Thank you for an awesome review as always.
Big fan of bioshock and prey as well and having gamepass this game just jumped the pipeline list - maybe wait for 1 patch but the world looks incredible!

As a huge fan of the Bioshock series I am glad to see something similar come out. Even though different than Bioshock (as noted in the video) it is nice to see.

Im actually surprised its actually released because of skeptics. It looks amazing and I'm amazed its not a "video".
Shockingly so. This is the opposite of the “bullshot” era.
So this released on my bday and don't pre-order as a rule but was tempted with this. About 11pm I saw your review go live and read BUY, watched 5 minutes and bought it. Been absolutely loving it so far, though I'm glad that first complex section wasn't any longer. Love the humour, the art style, and goddam those 2 tall robots at the start with the wreaths on their head are the sexiest robots I've ever seen...
But I digress. Quite amused how polarising it seems to be on metacritic. I think some reviewers really forget about playing games for fun and take the critical part way too seriously. I'm loving my time with it and mad impressed with the polish for what is essentially a AA studio game.
To each their own ofcourse, but just stoked to find a reviewer I agree with more often than not, love ya work bud.

A game can be as authentic all it wants and good looking, but that does not make up for the poor mechanics this game has. Go watch Skill ups review and you will see what I mean.

Thanks for reviewing the game for what it is, and not for how close to Bioshock it is. I felt like you really understood what they were going for, unlike many reviews. You mention Stalker, Metro and Bioshock - recognizing that it's not just a copy of any one thing. I haven't played the game, but your review more closely matches the vibe I was getting. Some reviewers dinged the game for being too long, at 20 hours, and here you are with 40 hours. That shows other people were trying to rush the game just to get the review out. They didn't stop to engage with the game, and it shows in their reviews.
Good to see so many Buys come out this year, forspoken not included. Not a good thing for my wallet during a recession, but its a good sign for the industry

Get gamepass for 1$ for one month and beat this game and plenty others and you can cancel immediately after you sign up and still get the month. That way it doesn’t automatically charge you next month. I think you can keep creating new accounts and getting the 1$ deal if it’s still a thing.

I wasn't following the coverage for this game at all, so when I pulled up your video and you started talking about immersive sims and Prey I got SO EXCITED
And then you put the disclaimer on the screen saying this is "not an immersive sim" and you have no idea how much my heart broke.
Prey was so incredible and it's such a shame so many people skipped it. Every day since playing that game I've been waiting for another immersive sim on that level to come out.

Comprehensive can also mean convoluted or drawn out. ACG reviews are OK but I find they're usually too bogged with micro details and unnecessary observations rather than focusing purely on the quality and enjoyment of the game.
A game that has a bioshock inspiration sounds really good and enticing to me. Thank you as always for the review.

You have to understand, SkillUp grew up on an island with the worst internet on the planet. He authentically loves games. He’s just one of the kids that was ‘good’ at Halo 2 because he could beat it on legendary, solo. But he would still be worthless on your team in matchmaking. Anyway, point is that affects how he experiences a lot of these games.
That’s clearly why he never reviewed Sekiro _or_ Bloodborne. Ralph has obviously never beaten them.
house sitting for my brother this week and he has an xbox so i started it today as its on game pass... i've had an absolute blast. i've heard a ton of complaints about the dialogue and was expecting the absolute worst but it isnt remotely as bad/annoying as people made it out to be. This is the start to a very bright future for the developers

I just finished it myself, absolute BLAST. The fact that you can straight up dismantle upgraded items and get ALL OF THE RESOURCES BACK?! It encouraged me to complete the dungeons and mess with different combat styles. The music blew me away the same way, if not a little more, that doom did. That carbonara remix had me SHOOK.

This game is so, so impressive. And you are the only reviewer on the internet that was able to put into words exactly what I feel about it.
I'm baffled by other reviewers not being able to see how incredible the game is in so many areas, especially as the first game released by this studio. They nailed so much.
This is one of the most optimized games I have played on PC in a long time. Ryzen 5900x, 32gb RAM and a 3080. It runs at 165fps (my monitor cap) at 1440p with DLSS on quality and all settings max and rarely drops below that. The only thing I have noticed is enemies will have a very low frame rate sometimes. Otherwise it's been fantasticly smooth.

I'm on a 4090, and at max settings with dlss quality at 4k resolution i'm hitting the frame cap of 300.
Weirdly enough though, when I enable frame gen, my fps actually goes down to 250ish. Must be some kind of bug or something because otherwise I should be up to 600fps 😂. I've got 0 clue why frame gen is hurting my frames
And raw fps no dlss I'm getting about 200-225 fps.
This is all indoors though btw, which is probably less performance intensive.
But either way I'm impressed that I can do that at 4k in general. Not even doom eternal was this optimized.
Then again, doom eternal had ray tracing available. Ray tracing isn't out yet on atomic heart.
I bet when this game gets ray tracing support it's gonna absolutely tank fps.
It's kinda weird how the devs said frame gen was for helping fix fps issues with denuvo and the game in general....but there's absolutely 0 performance issues. Like, none. And frame gen is 40 series exclusive so again why would they even bother mentioning it?

I am from eastern Europe myself and I knew that our guys not the best in game development. That's why I was very very skeptical about this game, but right now I feel proud as hell. Can't wait to play it, I have feeling that I'll love it just as much as Metro and Stalker!!!

You're such a massively loved gem dude - it must feel awesome reading your comments. People comment primarily on how good you are and THEN the game itself
All due respect I felt this review focused a bit too heavily on the intangible aspects of the game rather that the more concrete mechanical aspects players should know about.
For example, a good deal of the run time was dedicated to discussing how the opening scenes elicit certain emotions as you play through it unlike other games have. Or how walking into a lab experiment made you wonder what atrocities took place here. These things are nice to know, but not all players will even stop to notice or care about these things at all.
However, they will notice things like a complete lack of FOV slider, forced mouse acceleration, or the lack of a sprint button in a first-person shooter. These things were never discussed at all here from what I recall. I think in future these are the sort of things ppl need to know about more so than those intangible aspects mentioned earlier.
Just my thoughts tho still love your reviews 👍
Bit dissapointed that you didn't talk about all the controversy around the game and the lack of transparency from Mundfish, which could be a deal breaker for many people. Also, unlike Bioshock, Prey, STALKER and Metro, the game isn't available DRM free and you might run into some issues with Denuvo.
Definitely checking this one out. After picking up and devouring every inch and corner of Prey I've been craving another similar experience.

A new Bioshock game is in the works. Also Ghost games (ex Bioshock devs and Ken Levine) are making a game called Judas, basically a Bioshock-like game.

More people should play Prey 2017. Game has one of the best atmospheres in a game since bioshock.

I'm having a blast with this game. The open sections with a bunch of cameras calling down endless streams of enemies weren't quite as good as the claustrophobic laboratories of the start but still really enjoying it!

Biggest thing I'm concerned with for this game is that, in the Bioshock series, they portray the ideas and themes they present as undesirable extremes and how societies built on them can be extremely flawed. Given that Atomic Heart is presenting Communism and Soviet Russia in very positive (at least initially) lights, and given that a significant amount of funding for the game came from Russian companies and investors, I'm wondering if this game likewise presents those things as extreme and excessive, or if it still presents them very positively "if only it wasn't for this one outside element that breaks it down" kind of thing. Propaganda, essentially. I didn't see you touch at all on this (though maybe the comparisons to Bioshock are self-explanatory), so just wondering how it came off to you.
